Chapter 30: Chapter 30

A STRANGE NIGHT

Miles away, Jemimah woke up from a deep sleep. She needed all the rest she could get. Her body had gone through a lot of strange things not known to her prior to days ago. As her eyes opened, she saw Jason seated close to her. His hand was playing with her hair.

There was so much passion in his eyes as he looked at her. His hands moved to her ears, then the side of her face till it touched her lips. In response to that, she smiled softly.

"Would you have guessed in your wildest dreams that this extraordinarily strange reality would be ours?" Jason grinned.

"Not in the slightest," she replied.

Jason leaned downwards and pressed his lips on Jemmy's. He liked the feel of his breath mixing with hers. The young athlete raised her head gently by placing one of his hands behind it, before further kissing her firmly.

Jemimah raised herself and placed her hand around his neck in order to look him straight in the eyes. They were happy in one another's embrace, each of them enjoying their skin gliding against the other's.

Suddenly, they heard a very heavy sound! And immediately, she let go of him. When he checked, it was just a box that had fallen from the top of a cupboard in the next room. So, Jason returned to her. She was wearing a very delicate negligee and he began to tamper with it.

His hand caressed her bare back, then it climbed to her shoulder, before coming forward to her breasts. The other one slid gently from Jemmy's lower back to the side of her belly. She enjoyed how his touch made her feel.

He pushed the young lady till she was lay down facing up. Jason wanted something more intimate. He stayed on top of Jemimah while kissing her neck.

She turned sideways as they caressed one another slowly. He kissed her neck down to her crotch. But when his hand touched her panties she pushed him away almost angrily. "This is not right!"

"What isn't right, babe?" he asked in a whisper.

"A voice keeps telling me to ruin the consummation. I must extract the perfect seed from you. It is being formed already within you. If I do that, the boy child will die before he's even conceived!"

"But that is the point of everything. You saw what has been happening these last few days. We must not allow the child to be born, the reincarnation of an ancient ruthless witch!" Jason's eyes widened. He was shocked by her response.

"No, I can't kill a baby!" She cried. "We don't really understand what's going on. It's best to play safe. And I'm not going to take away our child's life!"

"How about having protected sex?"

"It's too risky. Didn't you witness how our bodies were being controlled by forces we don't understand?"

"We shouldn't be this close to each other then."

"I don't want to kill an innocent child. But that doesn't mean I want you to make love to Ariana." Jemmy appeared jealous. "Of course, unless that's what you want. And, that's over my dead body."

"Why will you say such a thing?" Jason was displeased by her statement. "You know I only have eyes for you, don't you?"

"Well, I've seen the way you look at her, you know?" Jemimah asked. "You know what? I'll be outside." When she stood on a balcony, she noticed that there was something about the sky that night. It was as if the moon came out too early and all the stars bearing witness to something.

The intensity of the light was almost alarming. It could be mistaken for a cloudy day. Perhaps the birds and insects noticed it too. They chirped restlessly. The breeze was particularly still but rather colder than it ought to be by many degrees.

'While she was a child, Sophie used to tell her that during full moons, it was difficult to fall asleep.' Jemimah thought about her sister who was somewhere thinking about her too.

Sophie had seen the news. She had dialed Jemmy's line countless times. But there was no response. As a result, she made sure that her windows were sealed.

Both of them were all the family they've got. While their parents were alive, they never made mention of any other blood relation. Alas! Two of them died in a tragic motor accident.

Jemmy and Sophie used to think that their small family was spooky. They thought their parents kept a lot of secrets. The girls were always the odd ones among their peers at school and in the neighborhood they grew up.

Suddenly, there was a smile on Sophie's face. She was rest assured that no matter what one of the them faced, the other was ready to go to hell and back in a show of support. Once, Jemimah fought two older girls for her sake. It wasn't a fair fight. She literally got the beating of her life. Still, she preferred it to doing nothing!

When she got home that day, their mother was shocked to see her swollen face. "What happened to you, Jemimah?" she asked her.

"Nothing Ma."

"Of course it isn't. You'll be fine."

That was how brief the conversation was. Other parents would have been enraged. They'd inform the school or the police station about it. But never for once would their father or mother do such a thing.

When their dad returned that night. He asked his wife about their daughter. He didn't even talk to the girl directly. And never again was the incident mentioned.

It was as if they were trying really hard to avoid being noticed. That still baffled Sophie whenever she thought about it.

At some point, her throat craved a strong drink. But she was very conscious about her health. 'Water is the best beverage.' She did her best to convince herself. Nonetheless, Sophie had to drag herself out of bed to the kitchen.

Immediately she placed her feet on the ground. It was as if something really big scampered off for safety in the shadows. She quickly switched her electric lamp on! But there was no one in the room.

'Could it be a mouse?' she asked herself. 'That can't be!' The sound of whatever it was that hurried away was too heavy for even twenty mice.

She thought it was something else. But that was way scarier and seemingly far from reality. So it was discarded as soon as it came to her mind. 'No human being should be able to move so quickly. And where could such a person hide now?'

When she got to the fridge. It wasn't closed. Sophie was very shocked to see it that way. About two hours ago, she had closed it with her own hands after having a drink. 'How is this even possible?'

She had an awful feeling. The one someone gets when they are been watched. Sophie felt a human presence in the room. 'Maybe I am just overthinking. It's actually been a hectic day.' So she bent slightly to get a bottle of water.

After bringing one out and turning to leave. Right in front of her was a man and a woman about her age!

Each of them placed a finger on their mouths. This was to warn her not to shout.
