Chapter 15: Chapter 15
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT FROM ME?
Jason Sam had sworn in his heart that nothing was going to ruin his mood. The experience at the museum made him extremely happy. 'Jemmy gave herself to me. Oh the feeling! She is the sweetest ever!' While he was still basking in the euphoria, his phone began to ring. It was his manager who was calling him.
"Hello, Mr. Sam!"
"Hey! What's up?"
"I'm afraid you have to come back home first thing tomorrow."
"Why, if I may ask?"
"Well, the outfit has prepared a contract with better benefits when compared with that which Lordham FC is offering." The manager was quiet for a few seconds. Then he tried to convince Jason. "You know, having established yourself as the fans' favorite and a regular starter, it would be more advantageous to remain with the club."
According to the continental and national associations, the deadline was only less than a week away and decisions ought to be made quickly. It would have been a very easy one for Jason Sam if things were different and Jemimah wasn't in the picture. But she definitely wasn't a fling. He meant every word he said to her the other day.
After the conversation with his manager, Jason was speechless for a couple of minutes. There were so many stories about young and promising footballers making regrettable career decisions because they fell in love. 'Am I making a mistake right now?' He inhaled and exhaled deeply.
He waited for another five minutes or so before picking up his phone and giving Jemimah a call in order to invite her to his hotel room. Their lines connected and her phone rang. When she saw who it was, she didn't take it.
In no time, her phone began to ring again. But she still didn't pick it up. 'Why on earth is he bothering me? Hasn't he gotten what he'd always wanted?' Jemimah enjoyed his touch, there was a way he made her feel. Honestly, she also wanted a taste of him. And now that she has had it, she didn't want her wishful thinking to get the better of her.
When her phone rang the third time, she thought it might be some kind of emergency. So, Jemimah picked the call.
"Hey sweetheart, you took forever!" Jason tried to sound casual.
"I'm not your sweetheart," she replied.
"Oh! I see."
"Why are you calling me?"
"What do you mean by that?" He didn't expect such an attitude from her after what happened yesterday. 'Have you finally regained your memory?' he said in his mind.
"I am very busy. If you don't have anything to say, then I'm afraid I have to end the call."
"Why are you sounding like this?" Jason was becoming upset. "Did I do something wrong?"
"No, you didn't. The thing is, you are going to leave Lordham very soon. I am just preparing myself for it."
"Why are you so certain about that?"
"I'm aware of the contract your club is offering. It's all over the news."
"My agent just informed me about it." Jason heaved a sigh. "That's the reason for this call. Please, I need to see you in person."
Jemimah was hesitant. But when he gave hints about the closure of the transfer market and the need for him to make a decision, she agreed to come. It took her another hour to show up in his hotel room. The time was a few minutes past ten in the morning. She had not yet resumed work.
The young lady made her hair into a ponytail. She was wearing a simple carton colored dress which highlighted her curves. A small bag also hung down her right shoulder. It matched her snow white sneakers. After entering his room, Jemmy stood near the door as it closed behind her.
She seemed expectantly cautious. Anxiety was written all over her. Jason noticed it. He had just taken his bath after hours of exercises. The player was putting on a gray shirt and black shorts. He hadn't been working out as usual. Nonetheless, his physique couldn't have gone out of shape so quickly since the last time they met, to make her so unsettled.
Jason stood up and moved closer to her. "Thoughts of you seize my nights and crown my day." He looked at Jemimah. "You my dear are the most beautiful woman to me, aside my mother of course! But I can't be attracted to my mother the way I am to you, can I?" He tried to make a joke.
A barely traceable smile curved her lips in response to what he just said. But it quickly disappeared.
"Good morning Mr. Sam." Jemmy said apathetically.
"Mr. Sam? Common, we've gone past that. It's me from yesterday, remember?"
"Of course! And thanks to my being so gullible, you've had your way with me," she said sternly. "I wonder what you think of me now."
"Jemmy, I won't have you talk about yourself like that!" He chided her.
"Be honest with me, Mr. Footballer, what am I to you?"
"The rarest of gems, you are priceless. The conqueror of my erstwhile stubborn heart," he replied, moving even closer to her.
"Sweet words won't work this morning. You mentioned the transfer window. Have you made a decision?"
"Yes, I have. But that's not as important as what I was saying." Jason was truly enamored by her. "You are the one I want to hold right now, tomorrow and as long as you'll allow me.
Setting my eyes on you made me fall deeply in love. And from the look of things, you've caught the bug too.
But it's okay, I'm very charming, thank you." He joked again and continued, "Jemimah Carpenter, you have had a good life prior to meeting me, so have I. We've only discovered that our worlds would be better for it if we introduced ourselves to each other. There's no point fighting it. I've embraced you wholeheartedly."
Jemimah paid rapt attention to everything he said. Thereafter, she moved a step closer to him and further looked into his eyes.
"Mr. Jason Sam, what the hell do you want from me?" she asked boldly. "And don't you dare lie to me!"
He tried to hold her hands but she didn't allow him.
So still looking into her eyes, he replied, "I want a clear chance to make things work, given the depth of my attraction and connection to you.
Darling, I kick the round leather ball for a living. Hence I'm awful with sweet words. But it would make me the proudest man alive to have you in my life. That's the hell I want from you."
After listening to him, she turned back and left the room.
