Lord of The Mysterious Realms Chapter 630
The terrifying Scarlet Ephemera was active during the end of the 13th Epoch, and was ultimately sealed away completely by an even greater power. The site of that sealing was none other than the blood moon visible in the material world.
At this realization, Jenkins immediately turned to look at the sky outside. Though the moon was invisible in the daylight, a faint chill still crept down his spine.
"But... why would the scion of an evil god possess such knowledge?"
While the common folk fretted over the Fabry Fraud and the Enchanters buzzed about the six gods descending on Nolan, Jenkins, who was entangled in both affairs, acted as if nothing was amiss. With little else to do, he stuck to his original plan and paid a visit to Maidenhaven Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite being short-staffed, the Church had still arranged for a dedicated carriage to escort Jenkins on his outing.
It was a national holiday, and the streets were teeming with people. Most of the shops lining the roads, much like Pops Antique Shop, were festooned with decorations, adding to the palpable festive atmosphere.
However, with the scion's disappearance, the smog it had once gathered quickly shrouded the city again. The change wasn't obvious when Jenkins had set out at noon, but it was a stark contrast to the clear skies of the preceding days. He found himself missing the bright sunshine.
They encountered a parade, so the driver, with Jenkins's consent, pulled into an alley to let it pass. Jenkins lifted his gaze from the newspaper article on the Queen's New Year's speech and parted the carriage curtain. He watched as people in new clothes, their faces bright with joy, followed the procession, laughing and playing. Children ran about with wild abandon, and adults waved enthusiastically, calling out greetings to familiar faces in the crowd. Fınd the newest release on NoveI(F)ire.net
The driver overheard Jenkins's remark. He tilted his head, pulled a hand-rolled cigarette from his pocket, and stuck it between his chapped lips. He expertly struck a match, lit the end, took a deep drag, and then slowly exhaled a plume of smoke.
The Williams family was gathered once again on Maidenhaven Road, which put Mary in an exceptionally good mood. She was so pleased that, for once, she didn't even object to Jenkins bringing his cat.
He had a happy afternoon, temporarily casting aside his worries and leaving all his troubles outside the door. The feeling of being free from pressure brought a genuine smile to his face, something he hadn't felt in a long time.
News of Monday night's incident with the six gods had spread faster than Jenkins could have imagined. By the time he arrived at Miss Stuart's study, the three ladies present were already aware of it and could even clearly recite the names of the six pseudo-gods.
Alexia and Chocolate knew nearly all of Jenkins's secrets, but neither knew where he had truly come from. Alexia, for her part, was also unaware that he was, in fact, the new god.
As a "non-believer," Alexia was hesitant to discuss divine matters, so she mostly listened as Jenkins shared his theories from the perspective of an outsider.
He understood the connection between the God of Corpses and Sacrifices, the God of Shadow and Stealth, the God of Lies, and the God of Music to the scion incident; that was the reason for their intervention. What he couldn't figure out was the role the God of Mystery and Rituals and the God of Flowers and Festivities had played in the whole affair.
Moreover, the latter seemed to be connected to the sovereign Lord of Blossoms; otherwise, he couldn't explain how they had manifested in the mortal world through the young flower seller.
"It's not a good habit to pass judgment on the gods so freely. Does any of this really matter to you?"
Jenkins paused, taken aback. He thought about what the God of Flowers had done and realized it had absolutely no effect on him. A weight seemed to lift from his shoulders, and he couldn't stop himself from standing and letting out a long, deep sigh.
"You worry about too many things, and that's why you're troubled every day."
The petite woman consoled him.
"Perhaps you should be more like Dolores. Go out for a walk when you have the time, or maybe make some new friends."
Dolores had kept her head bowed in silence ever since the conversation turned to the gods. But hearing her name mentioned, she looked up and flashed Jenkins a breathtaking smile. Though she was not yet of age, her beauty was already enough to topple nations.
The people of Ruen had also witnessed the brilliant, multicolored meteor shower the previous day. According to Miss Stuart, the kingdom's court astrologer was on the verge of madness. The old man, whose beard nearly touched his knees, had flown into a complete hysteria and had spent the entire day shouting about how incredible it all was.
"The Church of the Sage has received a divine oracle," Jenkins informed them. "The Prince of Lies has officially renounced his divine post and defected from the camp of evil gods. Taking his place as the God of Lies is none other than that infamous new god."
"I never imagined something could happen within my own short lifetime."
The third princess remarked with a sigh.
"Most people believe the Fabry Fraud, exposed two days ago, is inextricably linked to the new god. I, however, think it was all part of the Prince of Lies's plan. The new god is weak, after all. The likelihood of them outmaneuvering an old god is slim."
Miss Stuart was unwilling to discuss divine matters with Jenkins, but the Fabry Fraud had clearly piqued her interest:
"I know about the Fabry Fraud! The kingdom's spy in Nolan attended your public lecture and sent an express report about it directly to my father!"
She seemed to have let slip a rather crucial piece of information.
"My father and the finance minister both lauded 'Miss Fabry' as the greatest genius of our time, and they consider you a genius of her caliber as well. Father even wants to find those swindlers and appoint them as financial officials for the kingdom. It's a shame we have so few people in Nolan."
Upon hearing this, Alexia let out a soft chuckle and glanced at Jenkins. She had listened to him complain on more than one occasion about the trouble his 'righteous deeds' had brought him, so she could guess what was really going on.
"Alright, fine. I was Miss Fabry."
He couldn't help but laugh as he said it. Not out of pride, but because the entire affair seemed utterly farcical from beginning to end. He wasn't worried about revealing the truth to Miss Stuart and her maid; the princess was a friend, and even if she wanted to expose a writer from so far away, she would never find any proof.
Before Miss Stuart could offer her opinion, Jenkins added:
"The Fabry Fraud was orchestrated by me, controlled by me, and ultimately, exposed by me. If you were to investigate closely, you would find that out of all the swindled funds—apart from the fees paid to the Travelers' Bank—only ten thousand pounds actually vanished..."
"So that's why you wanted to 9,999 pounds?"
Julia rarely joined their conversations, but what she had just heard was simply too astonishing to believe.
