Lord of The Mysterious Realms Chapter 569

Jenkins had recently been trying to find a way to increase the black liquid in the goblet. Collecting fear was no easy task, especially since he was reluctant to let the cup out of his sight for long.

Chocolate, ever curious, might have simply seen Jenkins making a motion as if he were eating. Just as he was about to put the goblet away, the kitten suddenly darted from the pillow to his side, gently pawing at his hand.

"Do you want a taste?"

Jenkins immediately understood the kitten's intent.

The meow was soft and sweet. It then lowered its head, rubbing its face against Jenkins's hand.

"Hmm... alright, but just one drop."

There was no doubt that Chocolate could also absorb and accumulate spirit. While it felt wasteful to give something so precious to a cat, Jenkins was happy to see his companion grow. Perhaps it would soon gain a third ability, beyond just changing color and turning invisible.

When he materialized in the soft armchair by the fireplace, Princess Dolores and her maid were already there.

The three women quickly noticed something was wrong, and Jenkins recounted the unfortunate experience he'd had earlier that evening.

To protect their privacy, he deliberately omitted the details of Hathaway and Miss Mikhail's relationship, but he was sure from Alexia's wry smile that she had already guessed the truth.

"In Hamparvo, anyone who illegally uses a firearm to attack a noble can be sentenced to death on the spot, without a trial!"

Miss Stuart grew quite agitated as they discussed the matter of punishment.

"The Fidektri Kingdom has similar laws. I don't imagine that boy will survive this."

No one among the four of them felt any sympathy for the attacker. In a way, they were all members of a privileged class, far removed from the common person. They stood at the apex of the social pyramid, supported by power, strength, and connections.

Jenkins also asked about the attack from the previous week, but Miss Stuart reported that there were no new developments. She had, however, learned her lesson and would be far more cautious about meeting with strangers in the future.

As promised the week before, she had brought the three ingredients required for the elf's recipe. Unfortunately, while Jenkins had managed to acquire the water of life and unicorn hair through his own means, he still hadn't found three pieces of thousand-year-old heartwood.

It was an exceedingly rare material. Even with Miss Miller and Miss Stuart both promising to help him search in Ruen, he didn't expect to find it anytime soon.

Miss Stuart was as curious as ever about Jenkins's life. She cleverly used the cat as a starting point, gradually coaxing out stories from his daily routine.

"'A Tale of Ice and Snow'?"

"Yes. I've already delivered the finished manuscript to my publisher. He told me the first edition should be printed before the end of the year."

As he spoke, he mimicked the motions with his dinner knife on an empty plate. Today's lesson was on table etiquette, a complex subject covering everything from formal banquets to ballroom dinners, and far more intricate than the crash course he'd taken before his trip to Bel Diran. Given Miss Stuart's station, they usually practiced with actual food, but Chocolate had made off with his small cutlet. Until the kitchen sent up a new 'teaching aid,' Jenkins had to make do with an empty plate.

"Has Miss Miller seen it already?"

Miss Stuart, sitting across from Jenkins, glanced over at the other two, who were engrossed in their study of ancient texts. Such writing formed the foundation of spellcasting, but learning it was an arduous, even painful, process.

"She did. She helped me with the final proofread."

"A story about a kingdom of ice and snow... I imagine it will be quite fascinating."

Like Miss Mikhail, she didn't want any spoilers before she could read the officially published book. Jenkins had already promised to send her a copy the moment it went on sale in Nolan's bookshops.

"Oh, Mr. Williams, I forgot to mention."

As she spoke, Miss Stuart feigned an interest in the nearby fireplace, avoiding his gaze.

"My mathematics lesson has been moved to Tuesday evenings. This means... our next gathering will have to be in my study."

Jenkins nodded, but then a look of confusion crossed his face. "But won't that interfere with your lesson? I think we should try to keep our private time and these gatherings separate."

Nearby, a faint smile played on Miss Miller's lips, while Julia's grip on her book was so tight her fingers nearly punched through the cover.

Around eleven o'clock, the princess and her maid had to depart; they needed to prepare for a banquet with the delegation from the Cheslan Kingdom the following evening. Jenkins and Miss Miller stood together at the window, watching until their carriage was out of sight before returning to their seats by the fire.

"You look exhausted." Latest content publıshed on novelꞁire.net

Miss Miller observed.

"A lot has been happening lately."

Jenkins rubbed his face with both hands, then pulled Chocolate onto his lap.

"How are things in Ruen? Is Miss Stuart's mathematics lesson going well?"

"It's going smoothly enough. I've been granted permission to move freely through the non-critical areas of the palace. Dolores invited me to a small salon last week where I met some interesting people. Getting into the Frozen Spire, however, won't be as easy. The plan is still in motion."

"And the attack last weekend?"

"Nothing yet, but it was most likely orchestrated by Dolores's brothers. I'm quite curious, though. The current king is in good health, so even if they want to eliminate the competition, this seems like an unusually drastic approach..."

She rested her chin on her hand, pondering for a moment. "But no matter. I know you're worried about our friends' safety. Rest assured, I won't let anything happen to them."

Jenkins nodded. He shifted his hand from stroking Chocolate's back to scratching its head, and the kitten protested by batting at his wrist with its paws.

"You need to be careful, too. Who knows what strange things are hidden in that capital. Oh, speaking of which, I recently acquired an interesting item, but I've run into a bit of trouble using it."
