Chapter 487: Chapter 487

"Did Mr. Oliver see it?"

"I don't think so. Pops said he hid inside a wall immediately."

Jenkins answered honestly, his eyes catching sight of Chocolate craning its neck, looking at something.

Today's astronomy lesson was, as usual, about divination. Of course, the first step was to check if Jenkins had successfully finished reading those books during his trip.

By the time the lesson ended at eleven, they still hadn't moved on to practical divination, remaining stuck on theory and history. But at least Miss Audrey told many interesting stories, mostly about how ancient diviners had, step by step, brought about their own ruin.

Perhaps her goal was to teach Jenkins that intentionally manipulating fate would only lead to being manipulated by it. But Jenkins's thoughts remained on a more superficial level—divination was always a very dangerous practice.

Miss Audrey's divination lessons weren't scheduled at fixed times, as she had many of her own matters to attend to. After agreeing that Miss Audrey would notify him of the next lesson by letter, Jenkins didn't leave immediately. Instead, he inquired:

"Excuse me, has the Church invited you to perform a divination on the alley where the suspected vampire appeared?"

"In that case, do vampires themselves possess the power to interfere with divination?"

He asked with great interest, planning to visit the second floor of the Secret Trace Library to read the books the professor recommended.

"That's hard to say..."

Jenkins had been about to call for Chocolate, who was playing with the Life Pearl nearby, and leave, but Miss Audrey seemed to be in a talkative mood and gestured for him to sit down and listen:

"I imagine Mr. Oliver never mentioned what kind of power systems the intelligent races other than humans possess."

She said with certainty.

"He certainly hasn't... Isn't it just innate supernatural power? I thought they could also use spirit to construct rituals and manipulate numbered items."

"No, no, no. While most Enchanters think that way, the truth is, Enchanters are not limited to just humans."

It took Jenkins at least three seconds to fully grasp the meaning of her words:

"You mean, they also have the Enchanter's leveling system and ability system?"

Jenkins was dumbfounded. He had always thought those other races were just humanoid intelligent beings with special abilities.

But if that were the case, what was the basis for classifying an ability as a 'Blue Heteromorphic' one? And did humanity hold any special significance in the world?

"It's shocking, isn't it? I was just as surprised when I first learned."

She nodded at Jenkins, leaning back slightly against the sofa cushions. The light from the gas lamp on the wall spilled across her face.

Chocolate shifted on Jenkins's lap with its eyes closed, trying to find a more comfortable position.

"When human Enchanters first become extraordinary, they awaken one World's Gift ability and one Soul Trait ability, leaving one ability slot open. Non-human Enchanters with racial talents, however, fill all three of their initial bubbles upon awakening: a World's Gift, their racial talent, and their Soul Trait ability.

"As they level up, non-humans only gain one new ability slot per level, but at even-numbered levels, they gain an additional racial talent ability. While they are born with hereditary supernatural powers to varying degrees, only when these powers are acknowledged by the world as abilities can they be properly utilized and strengthened. That is why, in the ancient epochs, humanity was never the dominant species."

Jenkins was still in shock. He recalled the non-humans he had encountered. When he first met the demon, it was hidden in a human body, and Jenkins's level was too low at the time to see the points of light representing abilities. When he met the elf a few days ago, he hadn't deliberately observed him. And as for that unicorn...

"Are all non-human races ?"

"No. Thousands of intelligent races have appeared throughout the long course of history, but only a few humanoid races can produce Enchanters. Because of this, these races have all, at one time or another, become the dominant powers of the world—like the elves, dwarves, giants, elemental spirits, ancient murlocs, and now, humans."

Seeing Jenkins about to say something else, she shook her head again. "I know you want to talk about the Dragon Kingdom, but that was an anomaly, related to the Great Ones."

"So, it's possible for a vampire to learn an ability that interferes with divination?"

"Yes, provided it is indeed an Enchanter. In fact, the proportion of Enchanters is roughly the same across all races. It's just that even non-Enchanters of other races possess faint supernatural powers. Very faint. And in the history of the occult that we know, every famous non-human figure has been an Enchanter.

"The high-level demon that appeared in Nolan last autumn... a more accurate description would be 'a high-level demon Enchanter blessed and bestowed by the Great Ones.' I've seen the final investigation report. That pair of twin demons were both level-nine demigods, and they had been at that level for at least several thousand years! If they hadn't secretly come to the material world and lost their physical bodies, the danger they posed would have affected far more than just a single city."

"What do the Blue Heteromorphic abilities represent?"

"They represent the innate talents of different races, abilities that are nearly impossible to learn through rituals."

Jenkins was stunned speechless for a long moment. He only felt a subtle stream of spirit pouring into his body from the top of his head, a process that lasted for quite some time.

"Does the unicorn race have Enchanter talents?"

He suddenly asked a strange question.

"Not as far as I know."

The topic of non-human Enchanters was taboo in this era, apparently related to the truth of why the other races withdrew from the material world. But Miss Audrey didn't shy away from the subject with Jenkins, answering his questions almost without reservation.

Putting aside the problem of potentially facing a powerful vampire in the future, Jenkins was currently most concerned with one thing: where did his unicorn summoning ability come from?

His other Blue Heteromorphic ability, Dream Soul Departure, was clearly a gift from Mr. Barnard—there was no doubt about that. But the unicorn summoning... no matter how he thought about it, it didn't seem like a gift from a unicorn...

"Could it be that I comprehended it on my own after 'observing the unicorn'? I did have a very strange feeling at the time, as if some power was seeping out from my body..."

With this question in mind, he started his journey home. Chocolate lay draped over his shoulder, bored. It wanted to 'remind' him of something, but then decided that would be boring too. Google seaʀᴄh novel-fire.net
