Chapter 478: Chapter 478
The storyteller shrieked, his voice high-pitched:
"Even after I took your place as the princess, I didn't kill you. Yes, I truly cherish this moment. For so many years, I've been well aware of all the dangers you've thrown my way, but it's made me so happy! I just love that look on your face—the one where you're trying with all your might to kill me, but you just can't."
Miss Knight covered her face, Mr. Kreide rubbed his nose, and Mr. Black Cat managed a pained laugh. Jenkins massaged his temples—of course it would end .
From the moment they realized the maid was connected to every danger, they'd suspected she was more than she seemed. But no one had expected the princess to be the villain.
In the storyteller's narration, the kind and lovely Princess Sophia was revealed to be a hideous dark sorceress. She had bewitched the king and queen, taking the real princess's place to live in the castle, all to take revenge on Felicia's grandfather for abandoning her long ago.
But the revelation of the truth brought a new problem: would the story have a happy ending or a tragic one?
In other words, they now had to ensure that Felicia, not Sophia, was the one who triumphed in the end. For more chapters visıt noⅴelfire.net
The group was forced to confer once more. The consensus was that the maid, Felicia, had to win.
The strongest proof of this theory was that the kind maid was now in a desperate situation precisely because of their help. Helping Sophia would bring the story to an easy conclusion. Helping Felicia, however...
"At this, Sophia suddenly noticed the other four people in the room. She had long grown tired of their silver tongues, and while she had planned to kill them after Felicia, she decided she might as well do it now."
The storyteller suddenly recited in a loud voice.
Instantly, an invisible force shoved Jenkins and the other three off the grassy knoll and into the palace, leaving only Chocolate, who had been keeping a low profile, still standing by the campfire.
"Sophia no longer concealed her true nature. She unleashed a spell upon the four doomed souls!"
The storyteller's voice now held a hint of madness.
"Kreide used the Shield of the Sun!"
The man shouted, taking a step forward and dropping into a crouch. A two-meter-tall, transparent energy tower shield materialized before the four of them.
"But it was useless. Sophia was the most powerful dark sorceress in this world, and no one could resist her spells."
A massive explosion obliterated the left half of the bedroom. Jenkins was blown into the air before he could even utter a word.
He felt his 'Undying Man' ability activate. So, though he looked like a mangled mess of flesh and blood, he was actually unharmed.
He discreetly used his Breath of Healing, and his body instantly returned to its original state.
"We have to fight story with story! Our own abilities are useless here!"
Mr. Black Cat's shout could be heard through the swirling dust and smoke.
"While the terrible witch attacked the four strangers, Felicia finally recovered! She gathered and healed her temporary allies!"
Miss Knight's voice came from beneath a pile of rubble to Jenkins's left. She had understood Mr. Black Cat's meaning and was trying to rely on the maid's power.
"Felicia successfully healed her allies, but as she tried to gather them, Sophia charged forward again, brandishing the magic wand hidden in her formal gown."
The voice grew ever more frantic.
"Sophia, her true form revealed, had deceived the unicorn. It descended from another world and defeated the most powerful dark witch of this world!"
Jenkins emphatically stressed the words "this world."
"No, the unicorn did not come!"
the aged voice shrieked.
"No, the unicorn IS here!"
Jenkins roared, and with a violent surge of spirit, a pure white unicorn burst forth from the distorted space. It charged straight for Sophia in the dust cloud, its horn piercing her heart in an instant.
The ground beneath them trembled, and an unsteady Jenkins stumbled and fell. When he got up again, all four of them were sitting safely by the warm campfire, surrounded by an endless black fog.
A glowing portal appeared on the side of the fire nearest the Enchanters. The storyteller snapped his book shut, his voice no longer frantic as it had been moments ago.
"Having vanquished the evil Sophia, Felicia was finally able to live with her family. She generously rewarded the heroes who had helped her, and from that day on, everyone lived happily ever after."
From the darkness behind each of them, a slender gift box tied with a pink ribbon slid forward. On the lid of each box was a simple stick-figure drawing, done in colored pen, of two adults holding a little girl's hands as they walked away.
"And that is where our story ends."
The four of them had no desire to linger. They snatched their boxes and dashed into the portal.
Of course, Chocolate followed Jenkins through, but not before waiting for the old man to dissolve into light and seep into his book, and for the monocle to roll across the ground.
Before entering the Mysterious Realm, Jenkins and Mr. Black Cat had discussed what they would do after they got out. Mr. Black Cat had said he would leave Nolan City immediately and never have anything to do with the place again. Jenkins's original plan was to claim he had "accidentally stumbled into a Mysterious Realm" to explain his sudden disappearance.
But now that he had run into fellow Enchanters from the Orthodox Churches inside the realm, he could no longer use that excuse. No one would believe that two different Mysterious Realms had appeared in the same city on the same day.
He would just have to invent a new lie.
After the familiar, disorienting kaleidoscope of light and color, a massive surge of spirit flooded into his body from behind. When his feet touched solid ground again, a sharp night wind whipped across his face. Mr. Black Cat appeared opposite him a moment later.
It was the familiar St. Hughes Bridge spanning the Westminster River. The last time he'd been here, they were capturing the Eye Collector beneath it.
It was late at night now. Only the twin moons hung in the sky, and there was no one else around. In the distance, the wide Westminster River flowed into the darkness at the edge of his vision, and he could faintly make out a cargo ship moored by the bank.
A gust of night wind passed, making the open greatcoats of Jenkins and Mr. Black Cat rustle.
"Well, I suppose this is where we part ways. Thank you so much for your help, Mr. Candle. The adventure of these past few hours is an experience I'll never forget."
"Then I hope we meet again someday. I wish you a safe journey, Mr. Black Cat."
With that, Jenkins took off his hat.
