Chapter 1899: Chapter 1899
Even without knowing what the Dark Soul should look like, Jenkins was certain that this final King Soul had been brought into being. Now, with all four King Souls gathered around him, the status of the Uncrowned King was almost within his grasp. Read full story at ɴovelfire.net
All he had to do was wait for the throne this weekend. Once his "status" surpassed that of the other King Soul bearer, he would secure the qualification of a Savior.
After this matter was concluded, all that remained was the final seat of destiny. Jenkins planned to consult his divination teacher, Miss Audrey, and her own teacher, Miss Brolignans. He was certain those two ladies would have clues about the identity of the last Savior.
It was Monday, and the most important task was to take his family and Sigrid back to Maidenhaven Road that evening. This had been planned for a long time. If Silver Flute Miss had not unexpectedly appeared at the church to ask for his help, he would probably be home by now.
But he had not been delayed long in the Mysterious Realm, so there was still time. The only complication was that he had just agreed to Miss Windsor's request, and she had no intention of letting him procrastinate. Thus, she wanted to go back with him and clear the air.
Magic Miss waved at the two of them. While what came next promised to be interesting, she knew it was a private family matter. She would just have to wait to hear the outcome.
"I'm going back to find Silver Flute Miss. I'll also explain Miss Windsor's whereabouts for the evening to the servants and guards at the manor. That should solve the problem of our disappearance. After that, Silver Flute Miss and I will be resting next door. When you need us, we'll be there."
Silver Flute Miss's home was right next to Jenkins's, so the two of them were essentially on a paid vacation for a while.
"Well then, let's go. Back to St. George Avenue."
This course of action was risky. If the young women at home flew into a rage, it would make the relationship between Jenkins and Jessica incredibly awkward. While that would not affect their partnership, it would certainly fill the future with uncertainty.
But Jessica was right. Jenkins knew that some problems could not be solved by running away. Since she had prepared herself and completely revealed her feelings, Jenkins had no reason to keep hiding in his shell.
"Otherwise, you'd look down on me too."
He scooped up his cat as it jumped down from the wall, an aggrieved look on its face. Chocolate's nose twitched, its expression a very human-like picture of confusion. It had caught the scent of another cat—Mr. Goodman's pet.
But realizing it was just a non-existent cat from the Mysterious Realm, it went back to burying its head in Jenkins's arms, looking heartbroken and in desperate need of comfort.
"Come to think of it, I never saw Chocolate in the world of possibilities. Without an outsider like me, I wonder who would have adopted the little fellow left in a cardboard box at the intersection... who could have abandoned it in the first place?"
At the thought, Jenkins hugged his cat tightly, unable to imagine what a miserable life it would have had without him.
"You can't live without me," he murmured to his cat.
Beside him, Miss Windsor wore a peculiar expression, resolving to ask Hathaway and Briny later if the young author truly harbored a special affection for his cat.
Chocolate rubbed the fluffy side of its face against Jenkins's chest.
In truth, the lonely outsider could not live without this cat-like cat, either.
What followed was simple. Jenkins first returned to the church to explain his hasty departure, then borrowed a carriage to take him and Miss Windsor back to St. George Avenue.
At that moment, only Hathaway and Briny were home. Julia had gone to help Dolores pick out an outfit.
When Jenkins opened the door with his key, the ladies were all in their respective rooms, putting the finishing touches on their appearances.
Jenkins had a nervous Miss Windsor take a seat. Then, over the next half hour, he made two trips to bring Alexia, Dolores, Julia, and Sigrid back to the house.
By the time he returned with Sigrid, who wore light makeup and an uncharacteristically cyan dress, everyone else was already in the living room, ready to leave.
It was still quite early, in fact. They were going to Maidenhaven Road to have dinner with the Williams family, so they had plenty of time.
Jessica's presence was not part of the original plan, and before Jenkins returned with the others, she had not explained what had happened that day. But everyone had their suspicions. With a family dinner approaching, they all believed that Jenkins bringing Jessica home at this particular moment was a significant signal.
Jenkins had expected the scene to be awkward, but it was actually manageable. He asked the ladies not to be in a rush and to take a seat. Just as he was about to explain the day's events, Jessica cut straight to the reason for her presence.
"Yes, I'm in love with Jenkins."
Though only one person had spoken, Jenkins suddenly felt the room grow even quieter. He was incredibly relieved that the other ladies in the house had already noticed Jessica's affection for him, so her statement did not come completely out of the blue.
Miss Windsor looked at each of them, biting the inside of her lip as she tried to appear natural. Although she had come to terms with her own heart, she knew that what she was doing was, in a way, immoral.
"Something happened just now... alright, a Mysterious Realm. It made me see some things clearly. I want this man. Yes, him."
She pointed at Jenkins. He tried to speak but was immediately cut off.
"Jenkins, don't interrupt. Let her finish."
Hathaway's expression was not one of fury or cold indifference. She regarded Miss Windsor with a searching gaze.
"So, what do you intend to do?"
Because Mary had emphasized that the family dinner was not a grand ball, no one was wearing an extravagant evening gown. Hathaway wore a beautiful red dress that Jenkins had never seen before—not a pure, solid red, which would not have complemented her fiery hair.
"I apologize. I know Jenkins is engaged to all of you."
Jessica continued. Sigrid, also sitting on the sofa, shifted uncomfortably at her words but did not refute her own place in the arrangement.
"But from now on, I will help him fight for that crown. And in the foreseeable future, I will also help him manage this kingdom beneath our feet. I think... I... I know this is immoral, but I love him, and I wish to be by his side."
"If people were to stop at nothing to get everything they desired, the world would become a very dangerous place."
Hathaway remarked. The other three ladies involved in the matter remained silent, seemingly having decided to let Hathaway speak for them.
"Yes, this is harder than I imagined, but I think... I will dedicate everything to him. My entire life. I will become the sword in his hand, in Fidektri..."
Hathaway interrupted.
"Is Jenkins worth all that from you?"
Jenkins tried to speak again, but this time Dolores tugged at his hand, thwarting his attempt. Although the princess would normally support any of his actions, this was an exception. Dolores knew when she needed to assert her authority as a lady of the house.
"I am a lady of this house~"
