Chapter 1334: Chapter 1334
Standing on the giant's shoulder amidst the hospital ruins, Jenkins faced the ancient, fallen Titan that towered over the rubble. He took a deep breath and glanced at the unformed ability, the Disaster Poem.
"I am here to save all of this, not destroy it."
He declared, then commanded the white bone giant to attack.
The four people, still trapped in the game, watched in silence as the two colossal figures on the tabletop collided, trading blows at close range. The roars echoing from the horizon were terrifyingly clear.
"So what in the world has happened to this place?"
After a long pause, Mr. White Cat spoke with a sigh of resignation. He then added wistfully,
"Perhaps Mr. Black Cat was right to leave Nolan." Updates are released by NoveI(F)ire.net
"We're currently relying on a cat for protection,"
Magic Miss reminded them, her gaze fixed on the battle playing out on the table. "We're hardly in a position to judge whether the world has gone mad." It was obvious that even with the massive bone giant Mr. Candle had summoned, he was still no match for the ancient Titan. Similar size and height could not bridge the chasm in their power.
"Are we really just going to wait here for the outcome? Don't we owe Mr. Candle more than that, after he's saved us time and again?"
Hathaway asked, then pressed on.
"Even if we are relying on a cat for protection, that doesn't mean we're completely helpless."
"You really don't have to keep reminding us about the cat... What do you suggest we do?"
"For instance... perhaps the Corpse Gentleman himself holds the key to defeating the Titan."
Magic Miss suggested. All eyes turned to the Corpse Gentleman, who was slumped in his chair, still coughing up black fluid. The cat narrowed its eyes and let out a soft meow.
"Damn it, it's still not enough."
Jenkins had lost count of how many times the bone giant had swung its fists. Their brawl had raged from the hospital's main entrance to the rear courtyard, reducing every last building in the abandoned complex to dust.
The fight was a brutal, straightforward exchange of punches; there were no fancy techniques. But when monsters of this magnitude threw their fists, the raw power surpassed most other forms of combat.
Jenkins desperately searched for an opening. He didn't dare use [Knowledge Bestowal] on the Titan; for all he knew, the creature possessed more blasphemous knowledge than he, a stranger to this world, ever could. He had held out hope for [Blasphemous Creation], but when he risked moving closer during a clash of fists, the Titan had noticed the emerging vines and blasted them with a bolt of lightning, forcing them to retreat.
It was the first time Jenkins realized the true nature of that ability was creation, not destruction.
His last, most desperate option was to unleash [Mechanical Light] at full power and try to disassemble the Titan's head. But that was a massive gamble. If he missed, he wouldn't even have enough spirit left to control his giant.
He glanced over his shoulder. The distant city was cloaked in darkness, completely oblivious to the battle raging here. If it weren't for the four people watching him in their peculiar way, he wouldn't have hesitated to test the power of his new staff. After all, the Titan seemed like the kind of creature that would be vulnerable to the power of life.
But as it stood, using the staff meant not only risking the Nolan churches finding traces of its power when they inevitably investigated the scene, but also the very real possibility that Hathaway would recognize him.
"One more try," he decided. "If it really doesn't work, I'll use the staff. If Hathaway finds me out, I'll just have to explain everything. As for the churches... worst-case scenario, I'll have Alexia stop by before I leave. One full-powered strike from her should be enough to wipe this place off the map."
With his mind made up, he summoned his unicorn again, which carried him high into the air. It circled once before positioning itself directly above the Titan's head. From this vantage point, Jenkins was perilously close, and he could feel the creature's corrupt, twisted aura washing over him.
"What in the world did it absorb to become... this?"
Jenkins wondered as he gripped his sword with both hands, pointing its tip downward. Taking a deep breath, he leaped from the unicorn's back.
He aimed for the crown of the Titan's head, but he had barely begun his descent when a massive hand swatted toward him.
The bone giant seized the opening, wrapping its skeletal arms around the Titan in a crushing embrace. At Jenkins's command, it squeezed with all its might, the bones groaning as if trying to merge with the Titan's flesh.
An aura of light flared from his blade as Jenkins plunged downward, putting all his strength into the thrust. He landed hard on the Titan's head, the jarring impact of his sword against its skull sending a numbing shock up his arm.
But the sheer thickness of the skull was beyond his expectations. He was certain the blade had penetrated, but it was now just wedged in the bone, having failed to pierce all the way through.
The distinct sound of splintering bone reached his ears. Glancing down, he saw that his bone giant was now covered in fractures, about to be torn apart by the Titan's immense strength.
"Just a little longer."
He had no choice but to leap back onto the bone giant's head. He thrust the White Bone Holy Sword into its skull, and the giant's frame began to regenerate and grow at a visible rate. Spikes erupted from its arms, interlocking behind the Titan's back to form a cage. Bone spurs also shot out from its ribcage, slowly and relentlessly piercing the Titan's chest.
"Hold on, I'm almost there!"
He wasn't sure who he was talking to. Leaving his sword embedded in the bone giant's skull, he took a running leap and landed back on the Titan's head. The corrupting aura intensified its assault; Jenkins grunted as his vision blurred and doubled.
Back on the Titan's head, its owner clearly felt the 'insect' land on it and began to struggle with renewed fury. But the bone giant, now reinforced by the White Bone Holy Sword, had become a veritable cage of bone. It wouldn't hold forever, but it would hold for now.
"Blasphemous Creation!"
Jenkins pressed his hand flat against the Titan's scalp, feeling a slick, slimy texture beneath his palm. Instantly, his hand began to turn black. He snatched it back in alarm, flushing it with the fire of his grace and the spirit of life, barely managing to drive the corruption away.
