Lord of The Mysterious Realms Chapter 1228
"What are you reading?"
Alexia came down the stairs, settling beside him as she spoke. She showed no sign of being affected by last night's events. The air was still a bit chilly, so she wore a small cape over her coat, a shade that complemented her hair perfectly.
"Yesterday's paper," Jenkins answered distractedly. "I'm just looking at the casualty reports from the shelling at the Parliament Plaza."
His mind was elsewhere, still preoccupied with Dolores and wondering if his actions made him a con artist who had managed to win both the girl and her fortune. Nᴇw novel chapters are publɪshed on novel※fire.net
"Those numbers are all fabricated," Alexia remarked. "But they aren't entirely meaningless. At the very least, they reveal the government's official stance on the matter... Anyway, let's not dwell on that. I have something else to discuss with you."
The petite woman glanced at the cat curled up on Jenkins's lap before calling for a maid to bring more hot tea.
Jenkins set the newspaper aside and asked.
"Do you have any plans to return to Nolan soon?"
Alexia raised an eyebrow but offered no judgment on the matter.
"Since you're going anyway, perhaps you could deliver a letter to Audrey for me? There's something I need to tell her."
With that, she handed Jenkins an unsealed envelope from her pocket. Even if he were to sneak a peek, Alexia would never know.
"Of course, I can do that. No problem at all."
Jenkins nodded. It was precisely because the letter was unsealed that he wouldn't look. He had no desire to betray Alexia's trust in him.
Dolores didn't appear for breakfast. Julia informed them that the princess was still asleep, having finally drifted off very late last night.
Everyone could guess the reason, so Jenkins didn't press the issue. After finishing his meal, he handed the parchment detailing the ice-based abilities to Alexia, then prepared to head back to Nolan.
Before he left, he told Alexia he might not be back until evening. The petite woman simply advised him to be careful and said nothing more.
His first step was to summon the Star Spirit. He suddenly realized it had been nearly half a month since he'd last seen Rakul, not since he had asked her to transport the God's Child Umbilical Cord to Ruen two weeks ago.
The surging sea of stars was as serene and magnificent as ever. Rakul, the female Star Spirit, stood above the cosmic tide, still clutching her massive, translucent book.
The Astral Plane knew neither night nor day, so Jenkins dispensed with pleasantries like "good morning." After a simple greeting, he asked the spirit to transfer the lodestone in his hand to Nolan.
It wasn't a difficult task. In the past, she had used his true name as a coordinate to move items between Nolan and Ruen.
Now that he was physically in Ruen, and with more than one object bearing his true name in the basement of his Nolan home, transferring the lodestone was a simple matter for the Star Spirit—a fact he'd only realized upon waking this morning.
The Star Spirit, however, had a question for Jenkins. But first, she offered her congratulations.
"Congratulations on solidifying your divine domain and forging your own path."
High above the stellar sea, the spirit gave a slight bow, a gesture that sent ripples through the entire cosmos. Jenkins immediately expressed his thanks, then noticed that her appearance had changed slightly.
A translucent bracelet now adorned her wrist.
"Star Spirits rarely interfere in the affairs of the material world; we have always been observers and recorders. Although it is not the source of our power, mortals have long linked the starry sky with divination. Thus, whenever the celestial alignment shifts, we are able to reap certain rewards... Last night, the stellar sea was unusually active. An event occurred that will shape the next several millennia, and as I played a very minor role in it, this is my reward."
Jenkins was inexplicably reminded of the conversation between the three of them last night, but after a moment's hesitation, he decided against sharing such a private matter with the Star Spirit.
Sensing his hesitation, the Star Spirit offered a gentle reminder.
"Oh, divine one, as the Savior at the end of this epoch, the only living god to walk the earth, your every action shapes the course of history. The end of the Eighteenth Epoch draws ever nearer, and the first signs of turmoil in the material world are already appearing. You must pay close attention to everything around you, for all the clues you need are surely at your side.
"The changes in the heavens may be related to you, but do not concern yourself with such things. Omens of the future are only meaningful to mortals. For you, the 'present' holds far greater significance than the 'past' or the 'future,' because you exist within the 'now'."
Jenkins barely understood half of what she said, but as for her warning that "signs of calamity" were close at hand, he had already suspected she might be referring to the dense fog surrounding Nolan.
"Still, you say the stars and divination are linked? Then tell me, many years ago, were the gods who governed the starry sky and divination one and the same?"
Jenkins expected the Star Spirit to refuse to answer, as she had before, but this time, she gave a slight nod.
"That was a very, very long time ago."
That small hint was enough. It confirmed that the Righteous God of June, the Lord of the Myriad Phenomena of the Starry Sky, and the Righteous God of July, the Veiled Sage of Destiny, must share some unknown connection. While it didn't help him form a complete conclusion, it at least assured him that he was getting closer to the truth.
When his consciousness returned to his body in Nolan, he gazed out the window at the hazy fog and was once again struck by how truly awful the city's air was. In all his week in Ruen, he hadn't seen a single foggy day, though there had been plenty of snow.
Returning home after a week away, he couldn't help but feel a touch of sentimentality. But he remembered why he had come back to Nolan. After a brief pause, he slipped out the back of the house through the yard.
He would, of course, need to don his black robe while out and about. The last thing he wanted was for Papa Oliver to know he was back in Nolan.
It was the weekend, so Hathaway would most likely be with Briny. Jenkins didn't know her exact location, so he had his unicorn carry him high into the sky above Nolan, where he scanned the city with his Eye of Reality.
Nolan was a sprawling city, and searching for Hathaway under the gloomy sky would take time. As he soared through the air, he instinctively felt that Nolan's sky was different from Ruen's, though he couldn't immediately say how. At least his luck was good; he spotted Hathaway almost at once, emerging from the Hersha estate. After wandering the nearby streets for a few minutes, she headed straight out of the city.
