Lord of The Mysterious Realms Chapter 1081
Of course, Captain Bincy was oblivious to Jenkins's complex train of thought as he continued speaking:
"Earlier today, we used some special means to trace the daily movements of the first patient, Koliss Ebowah. We eventually determined she contracted that strange flu at the farmer's market near her home. Divination led us to our target, and the man who infected her was found resting at his home this very morning."
Jenkins asked, feigning an eager expression.
"The operation was a huge success. We discovered the farmer's market was actually a stronghold for Diwo, the pirate king known as 'The Thief,' right here in Nolan. We caught nearly everyone, but Diwo himself managed to escape. I don't know if Pops has ever mentioned him to you, but he's the most shameless of the seven pirate kings—sly, cautious, and skilled in thievery, stealth, and other assassin-like techniques. He was already a level 6 Enchanter five years ago. This morning, even though he was weak from a severe cold, the power he demonstrated was still extraordinary!"
Captain Bincy's brow furrowed, his mind still clearly on the morning's operation. But Jenkins was frowning even more deeply.
"I'm sorry, did you say the one with the flu was..."
"Yes. The one with the flu was that peculiar pirate king, Diwo the Thief! We had received no word of his arrival in Nolan. And can you believe it? Even while seriously ill, he hid his identity from his own men and lived in the same quarters as any common pirate! I highly suspect that no one, aside from himself, knew he'd secretly slipped into Nolan. What a cunning man. I thought he was supposed to be in the Shattered Isles, fighting the Nolan Navy!" ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ novel★fire.net
Captain Bincy muttered under his breath, then noticed Jenkins's grim expression.
Jenkins shook his head. He had assumed the message from the future wanted him to kill some minor character, but he never imagined it would be a pirate king who had become famous across the material world long before he was even born into this body. While Diwo was certainly not a demigod, and Jenkins wasn't worried about losing in a direct fight, a man who scurried and hid like a rat would be nearly impossible to track down.
"This won't do," Jenkins thought. "I'll have to rely on Magic Miss. She might be interested in this news!"
As Jenkins was thinking this, he heard Captain Bincy bid him farewell:
"So that's the situation. Miss Bevanna was concerned you'd get too curious about all this, so she made sure the operation was carried out this morning. If you want more information, feel free to find me anytime, but I need to go write my report now. A second pirate king showing up in Nolan... this has major implications for the campaign in the Shattered Isles. The Church wants to coordinate with the Kingdom..."
Jenkins heard the rest of what he said but didn't pay much attention, as it wasn't his concern.
That the target designated by the future was a pirate king was certainly beyond Jenkins's expectations. Even though he was still suspicious that this "future" might be a trap, he had already decided to find his target before the deadline—if only to confirm the reason he was supposed to kill him.
Of course, in his heart, he was leaning toward trusting the "future message."
He pulled out his pocket watch and glanced at it. There was still some time before dinner. During their joint rescue of Mr. Hood, Jenkins and Magic Miss had exchanged contact information. So he left the church immediately and used their communication channel to leave her a message, arranging to meet at midnight.
The message from the future demanded that Jenkins kill his target before the end of the month, and it was already the 20th. He was running out of time and had to deal with this as quickly as possible.
Fini was a little late for the evening class. The girl trotted up to the classroom door, and Jenkins nodded, motioning for her to come right in.
Fini was quite short, so she didn't block anyone's view of the front, even without ducking. Of course, very few people were actually looking at the blackboard to begin with.
After class, Fini made a point of apologizing to Jenkins for her tardiness. She explained that her schoolwork had been particularly heavy lately. She'd meant to rest for just a moment after dinner but had accidentally fallen asleep.
"Actually, given your progress, you don't really need to attend this class."
Jenkins pointed to Fini's notebook.
"You've already taken notes on most of what I've covered, so there's not much point in hearing the same thing repeatedly. I suggest you find some proper school textbooks to study. After all, my lessons aren't particularly structured."
Fini had been attending Jenkins's arithmetic class since winter, meaning she had sat through the material two or three times. Jenkins had seen her notes; while many words were misspelled, the content she'd written down was remarkably detailed.
"Are you telling me not to come to your class anymore?"
The girl looked crestfallen. Clutching her notebook to her chest, she lowered her head and stared down at her shoes.
"No, no, no, I just think you're exhausted and could use some proper rest at night... Of course you can still come, you're always welcome, Fini. And if you have any questions, you can come to me anytime. If you can't find me, just send a letter to Pops Antique Shop. I have plenty of free time..."
Before she left, Fini also asked about her friend, Louise the flower girl. Fini didn't know yet that the alley where Louise lived had been completely cordoned off, much less that a plague had broken out there.
After a moment of hesitation, Jenkins decided not to tell her the truth, merely saying that Louise was doing well.
He planned to check on Louise again in a few days. He would only tell Fini the truth once he was sure the girl showed no signs of infection.
After the evening class came his combat training with Miss Bevanna. Because of the "extraordinary" kick Jenkins had landed on the female corpse the day before, she had decided to ramp up the intensity of his practical combat training for a while.
It was an arduous process, as Jenkins could rarely find an opportunity to counterattack. Still, he felt he was making progress, which at least proved the time wasn't being wasted.
Before Jenkins left the church, Miss Bevanna reminded him not to forget about the plague. He had claimed that morning that he had indeed found an effective treatment, but that the information was too jumbled for him to organize just yet.
"No problem. I'll bring the organized information over tomorrow morning."
He promised, then walked out into the vast night, cradling his cat.
Miss Bevanna stood on the stone steps of the church entrance, watching Jenkins depart. Her right index finger tapped unconsciously against her leg, her thoughts unreadable.
He arrived at the alley an hour before his appointed time with Magic Miss, only to find, to his surprise, that she was already there.
