Lord of The Mysterious Realms Chapter 1040
"Chocolate, can you find the way to the ruins by the river?"
Beneath the dark night sky, Jenkins asked his cat. Though Chocolate was usually greedy and lazy, its skill at finding a path was second to none.
But they were too high up, and they'd never been to this place before. The cat stretched out its claws as if to scratch Jenkins's face, a clear sign that even Chocolate was helpless here.
Still, the cat knew the way home, as did the unicorn, so there was no fear of getting lost in the wilderness.
Jenkins gazed at the starry sky, hesitating for a moment. He felt it would be a bit embarrassing to ask the Star Spirits for directions, so he urged the unicorn to fly straight ahead, hoping to spot a town, a city, or even a set of railway tracks.
Twenty minutes later, just as Jenkins was starting to think about heading back to bed, he finally saw a light below. From a distance, it appeared large and bright. He excitedly urged the unicorn to speed up and descend, only to realize it was a forest fire raging in the woods.
Bathed in moonlight, Jenkins gazed silently at the fire below. He couldn't help but wonder if putting out this blaze was to be the grand prize of his nightly excursion.
They were far from any city, and while the damp spring wasn't the typical season for wildfires, letting it burn unchecked would surely lead to trouble.
Seeing as neither the unicorn nor Chocolate looked like expert firefighters, he told them to wait for him. Then, he projected himself to Ruen to seek help from Alexia.
Only Jenkins's consciousness had projected to Ruen; his physical body remained draped over the unicorn's back. Seeing that Jenkins was truly gone, the cat let out a soft, probing meow. When there was no response, it stretched out a paw and tapped the unicorn.
The small, pure-white beast let out a cry of protest. It knew perfectly well what a terrifying creature that cat was, but it also knew that no matter how fearsome, the cat would never harm another being that belonged to their master.
It began to slowly descend, looking for a suitable place to rest. The cat, however, continued to throw a tantrum on its back. Chocolate didn't actually dislike the unicorn; it simply despised the way Jenkins doted on it.
The moment his body fully materialized in Ruen, a pillow came flying at him from the left. He then felt a sudden chill in the air, but it vanished as quickly as it came.
"My apologies, Mr. Williams. I thought a burglar had broken in."
This was a bedroom Jenkins had never set foot in before. As Julia lit the gas lamp on the bedside table, he was finally able to see the full, slightly cramped room.
A faint spiritual aura still hovered in front of the maid—the residue of the ability she'd been about to use on the "intruder." Julia, dressed in her nightclothes, noticed Jenkins's gaze and instinctively took a step back.
"My apologies for disturbing you so late... Is the spiritual lodestone here with you? Is Alexia in?"
He turned around, a polite gesture to avert his eyes. From behind him, Julia spoke:
"Miss Miller has gone to the tower. Due to the formation of a new department, Her Highness requested and received permission from His Majesty for access to the second floor."
Although the Frozen Tower was an independent organization, separate from the Hamparvo Kingdom, its location within the kingdom's borders meant it had an ambiguous relationship with the royal family. That was precisely why Alexia sought to gain entry through Dolores. The source of this content ɪs NoveI(F)ire.net
"Gone to the tower? What unfortunate timing."
He nodded, ready to return and figure out another solution himself, but after a moment's hesitation, he asked another question.
"Then where is Dolores now? The truth is, I've come across a forest fire, but I don't have a good way to put it out. I remember the last time we were all out capturing that prince, Dolores extinguished the fire engulfing an entire building in an instant."
"Yes, but that wasn't Her Highness's own power. She was borrowing the strength of the Bestowal C-01-04-4912, 'The Frozen Archer Chess Piece'."
Jenkins frowned. That would certainly solve the forest fire problem, but he had no desire to wake a sleeping young woman in the middle of the night. It would be incredibly rude.
"If that's the case, never mind. I imagine you wouldn't allow Dolores to accompany me to Nolan. Perhaps I can try another way."
As he said this, he prepared to depart, but Julia stopped him. The ever-loyal maid certainly didn't want her princess to leave Ruen, but she knew that Her Highness would never miss an opportunity to help Mr. Williams.
"For an emergency like a forest fire, I believe it would be acceptable for Her Highness to travel to Nolan."
She spoke cautiously, then, noticing how inelegantly she was clutching the pillow to her chest, she carefully shuffled a step toward the wardrobe.
"But it's getting rather late. Is Dolores asleep?"
the writer inquired, ever the gentleman.
"That's alright. Her Highness is attending a salon this evening, so I doubt they'll be turning in early."
With that, Jenkins returned to the unicorn's back and waited. He projected himself back once Julia had finished changing her clothes.
He could have summoned the unicorn to Ruen to make the journey, but that would mean leaving Chocolate to guard his physical body alone. That was far too risky, and he was certain Chocolate wouldn't have agreed to it anyway.
So, he accompanied the maid out of the palace through a secret passage, where they boarded a waiting carriage and set off toward a small manor outside the city.
As for the forest fire, there was no immediate rush. The forest was immense; a little more burning time wouldn't make much difference.
According to Julia, the salon was a gathering for the daughters of the kingdom's highest nobility to foster goodwill. Dolores had never cared for such events, but with her new involvement in state affairs, she had no choice but to endure these tedious social obligations.
"Julia, why didn't Dolores bring you along?"
Jenkins asked this on the way, since Julia and Dolores were practically inseparable. The maid explained that it was customary at such private salons for guests not to bring their servants. There were no safety concerns, however. Not only was Dolores a Benefactor herself, but Julia had already stationed people near the manor just in case.
"But with so many young noblewomen at the manor, I imagine there wouldn't be much danger anyway."
The carriage carried them swiftly out of the city. The streets were mostly empty at this hour, and the patrolling officers who noticed the discreet emblem on the carriage door wisely pretended not to see the vehicle speeding past, flagrantly violating the law.
