Chapter 34: Chapter 34

"I will escape from him. I will escape from the beast."

She was about to open the door when she heard Conor.

"Calling him a beast doesn't suit you, Delilah. Wasn't you the one who always cooked for that beast when he did not eat anything? Wasn't you the one who always bought something for him whenever you went to the village market? Wasn't you the one who always cared for him?"

Delilah's hand trembled a little. Her red nose and swollen eyes could not look worse.

She closed her eyes to let tears roll down again. How did he know that?

Her hand backed up from the lock.

"He is a lonely beast who everyone is afraid of. But you are the only person who was able to stay with him, in the same house, in the same room. He has never let anyone give this right before. He never hurt you. How can you just call him a beast?"

Delilah sobbed while listening to Conor.

She could not forget his look when his eyes and cheeks turned to burn. But Conor was right. He never tried to hurt her.

"Didn't your mate try to force you? He saved your life, didn't he?"

Delilah remembered how her mate shamelessly tore up her dress. She realized the actual beast was her mate who brually wanted to rape her. He even told Everett that he let others play with her body.

"He didn't tell you because he knew you would react like this. He hid his real self but he never hurt you either. He even stayed outside most of the time so that you could stay at his house without any fear."

Delilah turned to him. "What? He stayed out because of me?"

Conor nodded. "Yeah. He is always out for training. He has his own people. But most of the time stayed alone without going back to his house."

Delilah's heart skipped a beat. 'He has his own people? What did he mean by that? And he always stays out for me?'

She bit her lower lip to control herself.

"But he always says-"

"He is just an arrogant brat. He always stayed alone in the forest. It has been a while. He does not know how to behave. He is not that expressive."

Delilah prevented her emotions and kept herself from crying.

Though he behaved like a normal person with her. Still, she could not change the fact of what she had seen that night.

Delilah looked at Conor and asked, "What are you?"

"What do you mean?"

"What is your rank?"

"I am an Alpha."

Delilah's eyes widened. Alpha was the highest rank of werewolves. Being an Alpha was like the biggest achievement since they were a powerful rank.

"W-What about him?"

Conor was silent. Delilah got that. He did not want to tell her about it.

"I understood. You don't want t-"

"He is a Lycan."

"WHAT?"

Delilah stepped back.

"A Lycan?" She whispered.

She heard about Lycans. They were the highest rank of werewolves. But how could a Lycan exist now? Weren't they cursing creatures?

Lycans were like kings of every rank. They did not need any Alpha to lead them. They could lead a bunch of Alpha Kings together.

But there was a saying.

Lycans were cursed creatures.

They were full of curses. They did not have a good history with witches and other creatures. So every creature united together and was able to demolish the Lycanthropy.

"He is a Lycan. It is the reality. It's better if you take it in your mind fast. The earlier you can accept the matter, the better it would be for you."

Conor walked to the door and grabbed the lock.

"One thing I can assure you, you can not escape from him. Now it's your choice if you want to leave him. It's your choice to try it or not. If you think it's a trap, then what to say? You are in a trap with a lonely Lycan."

Conor opened the door. Delilah wiped her face and nodded her head without looking at him.

"About your work, since I am the main doctor, you can continue here. But try to be healthy so that you can help others to stay healthy."

Delilah left the chamber without saying anything.

She stepped into the hallway of the hospital. She was totally lost.

'A Lycan?'

She thought. It reminded her of what she had heard from her grandmother.

Lycans did not need to stay in the pack.

Because they did not need to protect themselves. Others needed protection from them. They were deadly creatures.

Delilah entered the room where every nurse went to change uniforms.

"Delilah! Where were you all the week?" A nurse asked.

"I heard you were sick. Is everything okay now?" Another nurse asked.

Delilah nodded at them. "I am fine." She replied in a shaken tone.

They looked at her face. They thought Delilah was still sick. "You need rest. We know you have already taken a lot of leaves but you looked too weak."

Delilah smiled sadly. "It's okay. I will manage. Thanks for your concern."

She went to change into her uniform and went out. She saw Lily was there.

"Miss Winters." She greeted her.

Lily looked at her and asked,

"I called you at that time. Why didn't you listen to me?"

"When, Miss Winters?"

"Before entering the head doctor's cabin." Lily replied.

Other nurses looked stunned. They started to whisper about it.

Delilah ignored their whispers and replied,

"I am sorry, Miss Winters. I didn't hear you, otherwise, I would reply to you. Is there something?"

"You are under me. So, of course, there is always something. But you went to the head doctor directly. You look really close to him."

Delilah felt uncomfortable hearing that. "I know him from outside so-"

"So that does not mean you can just go and talk to him. You come here for work, not for talk." Lily scolded her. Her voice was full of anger.

Delilah was stunned by her tone.

'Did Conor say something to her? Why is she scolding me?' Delilah thought.

She nodded and said, "I am sorry, Miss Winters. Next time I will come to you directly. I just went to him to apologize that I could not come for a week. Nothing much."

Other nurses stopped gossiping. They believed Delilah and thought they were thinking too much.

But Lily's gaze never eased on Delilah. She saw her going to Conor's chamber and the way Conor closed the door personally, it did not look like an apologetic situation. They looked very close as if Conor was eager to talk to Delilah so he did not care that she was at the door. He excused her and closed the door to talk to Delilah.

'What were they doing inside the closed door?'

Lily remembered how Conor came for Delilah and sent Lily somewhere a week ago. Lily doubted that Delilah was up to Conor because he was the head doctor there.

"What you want from our boss, you will never get it. He is not like that. He is a very professional man." Lily said to Delilah in a lower tone so that others could not hear her.

Delilah raised her brows. She was already in such a bad mood. She could not take much.

"Miss Winters. You are thinking unnecessary things. There is nothing between me and him." She said it loudly. Others heard her clearly. Then she left for her work as her schedule stated.

Lily gritted her teeth and thought, 'Such a pretentious woman!'

Lily liked Conor for a long time. Conor personally trained her and a few doctors.

From that time, she had a thing for Conor. She tried to impress him in every file. She was a doctor and it was her duty to treat people well. However, for Conor she gave her hundred percent to every patient so that they could recover early and she could win Conor's heart.

Now Delilah came to their lives so suddenly and won Conor's heart.

Conor started to give her leave every week. She was a new worker but the leaves she got, Lily did not get them in her whole year. Conor was treating Delilah as if she was someone precious to him.

A nurse came and put her hand on Lily's shoulder. She tried to comfort Lily and thought Lily was upset.

"I don't think she has anything with Doctor Conor, Miss Winters."

Lily glared at her hand. The nurse immediately removed her hand and bowed to her. "I mean she is a simple poor girl. How can doctor Conor fancy her?"

Other nurses nodded as they agreed.

"Even if she is into Doctor Conor, she is just a nurse like us. We know you like Doctor Conor and we believe he will only accept you. Don't worry about Delilah." Another nurse assured her.

They knew how Lily was. She really liked Doctor Conor. They noticed that from the start.

Lily ignored their comments and looked at the door. She could see Delilah's back going far away towards a big cabin.

'You tried to get close to my man,

You will suffer in the long run, Delilah.'
