Chapter 50: Chapter 50

/His POV/

I couldn’t help but notice that Rose was quiet. Did the gift render her speechless? Or maybe it’s because I would be leaving in few hours. I didn’t know when I would be back, if at all, although I hadn’t said that possibility out loud yet. That’s why I wanted to leave on a happy note, make sure that Rose had everything she would need for a while.

It’s still cold but milder than it’s been for weeks; the sun has already started to peek through the clouds, the air crisp and fresh. I chose one of the more scenic routes if it could be called that. The lawn adjoining my cabin was the only place I could think of.

We didn’t have much time, to begin with.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw the omegas gaze sweeping over the surrounding area, finally not hidden behind clouds anymore. Even though she had agreed to my picnic idea, Rose picked at her food the whole time, shook her head when I offered to ask for a bit of wine. The phone box was still gripped tightly in between her fingers, lashes kissing her cheekbones as she blinked while tapping on the box nervously.

I looked over at her and sighed, crumpling the sandwich wrapper in my hand.

“You want a different phone?”

She jolted at my question, shaking her head, eyes going wide. I ordered the latest model of phone from the mall in hopes that the omega may be overjoyed. Most of them would judge by the brand and price of the mobile.

“No”, Rose breathed softly, almost a whine escaping her throat, shyly tucking her hair behind her ear. “I am just overwhelmed. No one has given me such an expensive gift before.”

Oh. My lips parted at that, brows furrowing. Her family was one of the richest ones in their Pack. Why would they not pamper her? At first, I didn’t pay much attention to the details, but most of her clothes didn’t even fit her. Like they were hand me downs of her sister, and Rose didn’t have her phone.

It’s quiet. Apart from the steady stream of water from the river in the woods and our breaths, there’s not a sound to be heard.

“Get used to it” I cleared my throat, meeting her eyes. “You are my mate and Luna of this pack. After my official ceremony, the gifts will be overflowing.”

Also, she would be bestowed with gifts and jewels during moon festivals every year, her birthday, our war victory festivals and during her nesting. The last part caused a strange emotion to flicker in my chest, which I quickly suppressed. What’s the use of thinking about things that may never happen?

Rose made a low surprised sound at the back of her throat. “More gifts?”

“Mhm,” I said, taking a massive bite of the sandwich, eyes rolling back. Rose added leftover steak in between toasted bread and drizzled a lot of cheese sauce on top. Just the way I liked them.

Silence stretched between us like a quilt, but it wasn’t awkward for the first time. Rose ate like a bird, taking tiny nibbles of her buttered bread. There was no filling, only grated cheese on top.

“Do you not like steak?”

Startled, she looked up before slowly shaking her head, tucking her bottom lip in between her teeth. “I eat steak only on my birthday….”

“Why is that?”

“M-My mother said I would put on weight by eating steak, and also, I am an omega, so I didn’t need it,” Rose admitted, looking away.

Something ugly bubbled in the pit of my stomach. Why would anyone say those cruel words to their child? What kind of people was Rose surrounded with? My eyes involuntarily accessed her body, taking in her fragile arms and slender waist. I let out a snort, shaking my head.

“Your mother is not here to judge you anymore. You can eat as much as you want.” I forwarded the slice of sandwich from my place, which she stared at for a solid one minute. “Come on, take it.”

“T-Thank you, Alpha.”

I watched as her delicate fingers gripped the sandwich and kept staring at it as if it’s a prized possession. Her eyes twinkled under the sun, a wide grin as she took a huge bite, the white sauce and grease clinging to her bottom lips. My lips twitched at the display.

“I should have given you an entire sandwich instead of a phone then.”

She hummed, still lost in chewing her food, making soft noises. They shot straight to my groin, cock twitching as she occasionally licked her lips, her pink tongue making a show of slurping the sauce from the back of her fingers. I couldn’t help but imagine that mouth of hers wrapped around me, her tongue darting out and giving kitten licks to the head of my dick.

Suddenly my phone vibrated in my pocket, jolting me out of my obscene thoughts. I slid on the green icon before pressing the phone against my ear, twisting my body away from her.

“Hello?”

“Good morning, Alpha.” A female voice purred in my ear.

I was in such a trance that I almost forgot to check the contact number displayed on the screen. Pulling away, I stared at the number before replying.

“Are you here already?”

“Yes. I am waiting outside your cabin door with bags.”

“Okay, I’ll be there in a minute.”

“What about your omega?”

My head twisted, eyes automatically shifting towards Rose, who was lost in her world. Standing on my feet, I gripped the phone tighter.

“She doesn’t need to know about it. I’ll be there in a minute.” With that, I hung up the call and pressed the phone in my pocket again. Turning around, I found the omega immediately shifting her attention to me, abandoning the sandwich on the plate.

“Are you leaving?” She blinked.

“Yes, I am afraid it cannot wait. You can finish eating here. I’m done anyway.”

Her smile fell. She appeared as if she wanted to say something; instead, Rose merely nodded her head. The omega wiped her mouth before standing up as well, hurriedly rushing to smooth a hand over her loose clothes. A weak hopeful smile tugged on her lips as she met my eyes. “Let’s walk back together. I will clean this up later.”

“No” My voice came out sharper than intended, hands curling in fists. I cleared my throat. “I meant it’s alright. Please stay here and finish your meal.”

Her lips folded together as she merely bobbed her head. Giving her one last, I turned on my feet, rushing to meet the woman standing in front of our cabin.

I found the young omega with almost half a dozen bags on the floor, and a few tucked under her arm. Rushing forward, I took the bags and settled them on the porch, a frown taking over my features. Where was the delivery guy?

Rachel owned the luxurious clothing store in my mall and tried to flirt with me multiple times. Our paths only crossed every time I went to that mall. She flashed me a dazzling smile, inching closer and placing a hand on my bicep. “You are so rich and caring, Pack Alpha. I would be flattered if you did this for me.”

I took a step back, hardening my stance and glaring at her. “Miss Rachel, I would appreciate it if you refrain from touching me and making such inappropriate comments. I am sure you wouldn’t want to be sued for sexual harassment.”

She sobered up quickly, a flush crawling her cheeks and bowing her head. “I-I apologise, Pack Alpha.”

Rolling my eyes, I flickered my eyes towards the bags. “Did you get all the coats Rose liked from the store?”

As the omega couldn’t shop the last time she was at the store, I called them up and asked to pack every single item she had her eyes on for longer than a minute.

“Yes, Pack Alpha.”

“Great! Thank you. You can leave now.”

She opened and closed her mouth before nodding her head. Turning around, I quickly picked the bags in my hands and rushed inside my cabin. Rose was already overwhelmed with one gift, so I didn’t want to give her another on the same day.
