Chapter 72: Chapter 72
Terban’s POV
I only agreed to sell waffles for the school festival because I wanted to forget that night.
Until now, whenever I saw Slyvester, I had to remind myself that I should not stoop low and punch that guy’s face.
“Hi. Can I buy waffles?”
Wait a minute. Speaking of Slyvester, why is he not coming back? Well, if I put myself in his shoes, I might have buried that b*tch who called him “babe” in front of everyone.
“Ahmm, hello?”
No. No. Burying that woman isn’t enough. If there’s someone who will pretend to be my girlfriend in front of everyone, I will drown her to boiling magma.
“Excuse me? I want waffles.”
I looked at the girl in front of our stand and replied, “How many?”
“Three. So it stands as “I” “Love” “You”~” She pointed at me before tucking her hair behind her ears.
Is she crazy?
I swallowed the curse and prepared her order.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” asked the customer, which made me frown.
I glared at her, and she flinched.
“If you won’t buy waffles and flirt with me, get lost,” I said.
“Hello! Good evening!” one of my classmates came to my rescue. “Let me apologize instead of this man. He’s a bitter guy because he belongs to the anti-romantic club.” He chuckled a bit and tapped my shoulder.
I shook his hand off my shoulder and gave him a threatening look.
“How many waffles do you want again?”
The pale girl answered, “Forget it. I don’t want to eat that anymore.” She rolled her eyes and walked away.
“Terban! Dude!” he complained. “Customer kept coming here because you’re handsome. But you did not know how to handle them! Can’t you just shut that mouth and smile?”
“Be thankful that I don’t need a knife to cook waffles.”
He stepped back away from me and chuckled. “R-Right. Okay. Fine. Do what you want, b*stard.” He shook his head and left me.
I let out a sigh. "Sh*t."
Why am I wasting my time over this stupid matter?
My eyes went forward and surprisingly, I saw Ryan walking past our stand.
“Hey!” I called.
Ryan stopped walking and looked at me.
“Where are you going?” I asked.
“Home,” she said in an unpleasant tone.
I took off my apron, and replied, “Then, I’ll go with you.”
I placed the apron on the side and escaped before my classmates would notice that I had left. From a distance, I could hear them shouting.
“Terban?! Where did you go?!”
I picked up my pace and Ryan followed.
This is the first time Ryan and I walked home from school. The surroundings were so quiet because almost all of the students were at the festival.
“Why did you walk with me? You have a car,” Ryan broke the silence.
“Riding my car with you means we will have a short time to be together.”
Although we live in the same house, Ryan would lock herself inside her room. It became her routine ever since the five of us confessed to her. She was so careful of her surroundings.
"Hmmm," Ryan just mumbled.
It seemed like she wanted to say more, but chose to keep it to herself.
The breeze was sticky and cold, and the wind was blowing hard. Clouds covered the moon in the sky. Soon, rain would drop. The festival will be a mess.
“Aren’t you going to ask why I suddenly thought of going home?” Ryan asked again.
“Nope. Some things will be better not knowing.”
Just like that night. It would be better if I didn’t know what happened between her and Slyvester.
“Before, I met with that woman. Slyvester’s blind date partner,” she shared.
I stopped my feet, and so she did. It’s Slyvester again, as expected.
“She said…”
I cut her words by saying, “Things about Slyvester, I don’t care.”
"..."
“When you’re with me, just think of me.” I moved forward.
I heard her steps following mine. A little later, Ryan tapped my shoulder.
“What?” I asked as I looked back.
“I didn’t say anything,” she defended.
“Then, why did you tap my shoulder?”
“Huh? I didn’t tap you.”
That’s weird. Someone really tapped me before.
This time, Ryan walked before me. “What?” she asked, staring back.
“Why?” I inquired.
“You tapped me.”
But I did not.
A cold wind brushed my skin. My hair stood on end as we both looked behind our backs. The road was empty, and we were alone. Ryan and I looked at each other before we…
“Terban! Wait for me!” Ryan shouted when I dashed out.
Ghosts aren’t real. I don’t believe it exists! But I hate mysterious sh*t like this! I jogged faster, until the gap between Ryan and I increased.
"D*mn!" Ryan screamed. When I looked back, I saw her limping because the strap of her slipper broke. I can’t help myself from laughing. “Don’t laugh at me! Wait!”
While running, I realized that maybe it was the fallen leaves and not a ghost. The wind was strong, and the leaves probably fell on our shoulders.
Maybe?
But if not, then I swear I would never walk back to the boarding house again.
Ryan and I finally arrived home. We were standing behind the closed door while catching our breaths.
“You piece of sh*t. Why did you leave me behind?!” Ryan complained.
This reminds me of our old days. When we were young, we pranked homeowners by pressing the doorbells and then running away right after. Ryan was always left behind.
“Ryan.”
“What?”
Thinking about our past made me confused. During that long time we were together, why did I let her fall in love with another man?
She was mine.
There was us.
“Ryan,” I called her name again.
“What do you want?”
I put my hand behind her head, pulled her closer, and kissed her forehead.
The rain poured down when our eyes met.
“T-Terban.”
"I can't give up on us, Ryan.”
