Chapter 60: Chapter 60

Ryan’s POV

When Slyvester approached us, the only thought I had been to get out of the place ASAP. I could not look straight into Slyvester, nor remembered what he and Terban talked about in the process.

Then Terban pulled me out of the restaurant. Arriving outside felt as if the thorn in my throat was pulled out. Yet, I was guilty of acting oddly and of creating a ruckus.

“I am sorry,” I said with a sigh.

Terban stopped walking and looked at me. I could not lift my head to face him though.

“Because of me, we couldn’t eat. Let’s look for another place. I will pay this time.”

“No. Let’s just go back home.”

‘Is he sulky?’ I lifted my head to see if he was really sulky. But he was not. Rather, Terban was so mad.

His sharp eyes made my palms clammy. He was jutting his jaws while his brows met in the middle of his forehead. He was angry and disappointed in me; I could tell that.

“I took you out to enjoy,” he murmured, “Well, it looks like you won’t enjoy it. At the end of the day, you will only think of him, won’t you?”

Terban’s words have a curse on them.

He guessed it right.

Even when we got back home, the scene bugged me.

Right now, I am at the boarding house’s rooftop; still thinking about the time I caught Slyvester attending a blind date.

“Why would I feel so melancholy?”

I asked the rhetorical question to myself.

If I see either Vincent, Chaylen, Kyle, or Terban attending on a blind date, will I feel sad and betrayed too?

I wonder about that.

‘Perhaps, deep inside, I already knew the answer.’

Sighing, I checked my wristwatch. It’s late at night but Slyvester wasn’t home yet.

“Don’t tell me he’s enjoying that pretty woman’s company?”

“Tss. Men are all the same. It all goes down with looks. Damn it.”

I caressed my arms before deciding to go back inside the boarding house. Yet, I saw a coin on the railings, and I am pretty sure I’ll regret not getting it. Perchance, it might appear in my dream.

“Let me get that first.”

Tiptoeing, I bent down and stretched my hand as far as I could.

‘I need a longer arm!’

I stretched my body even more when suddenly, someone hugged me from behind.

“THINK TWICE, RYAN! DON’T END YOUR LIFE! IF YOU ARE FACING A PROBLEM, THEN LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS!”

The coin which I touched with my fingertips fell on the bushes beneath.

Annoyed, I looked back and shouted, “IT FELL!”

“No! You did not!”

“Not me, idiot! The coin! I was reaching for the coin!”

“C-Coin? You are not… trying to jump down?”

“Why would I? Do you really think I’ll end my life? One more thing, if I jump from here, I don’t think I can die. I will probably only get some injuries here and there.”

After venting my anger, the two of us just looked at each other. We then realized that his arms were still around my waist. Learning that, I pushed him away.

“Ouch!” he winced as he held his chest. "You hurt my breast.”

“Breast? You’re a man.”

He held his chest and said, “Man has breasts.”

“It should be a chest.”

“Then why do chickens have “breasts” even if they are men?”

“You sure about that?”

“Maybe?”

The foolish conversation between us made me laugh.

“Pfft…”

But when I remembered what happened between us this morning, I pulled out my smile and crossed my arms.

“So, how was your date? It ended late, I see.”

Slyvester waved his hand mid-air.

“That is not a date, okay? Let me explain.” He took a deep breath before explaining, “It is not a date, but a blind date.”

“Which is also a “date”.”

“Sort of. But! In a business way. To make it short, my parents begged me to meet Miss Giselle because she’s connected with my family’s work. Got it?”

The life of a conglomerate kid that I would never understand.

If is it really for business, then why did that b*tch ask Slyvester if he has a girlfriend or what? It’s so obvious that she likes him.

“How about you? You went on a date with Terban,” he tossed an offense.

My eyes widened. I must disagree but somehow, he has a point. It was indeed a date. And I was an idiot not to notice beforehand that Terban asked me for a date.

‘He lured me with free food.’

“T-Terban and I only wanted to eat breakfast as a friend,” I managed to come up with a reasonable excuse.

“No matter where you look at it, if a guy and a lady went out to eat, it’s a date,” Slyvester pointed out.

“So, you’re admitting that you went on a date?”

“My case is different!”

“What’s the difference?”

“Terban likes you! And I am f*cking jealous!”

The silence meddled after his loud scream.

It was late at night, but butterflies were flying inside my stomach. And because it was difficult for me to stop myself from grinning, I turned around to hide my expression.

“Do you… get it now?” he shyly asked.

“Yes,” I said without looking back. “Next time, I’ll think first before going with someone else.”

“I am not stopping you from going with other men. Yes, I got so jealous. But I don’t have the right to stop you. For now, I am just… just… someone who courts you? Yeah. No label.”

My smile faded.

Slyvester is right. As soon as I don’t straighten out my feelings, this kind of scenario happens again and again. I wanted to check my feelings out, FOR REAL, THIS TIME.

“Ryan, there’s no class tomorrow. Would you like to… go out? Let’s eat somewhere. Just the two of us.”

I looked back at him.

A moment ago, he said that when a woman and man went out to eat together, then it was a date.

“Eating outside is a date. You said that before,” I reminded him.

Slyvester looked at me with a serious gaze.

“I know,” he said in a deep voice. “You read my intention right. I am asking you for a date, Ryan.”
