Chapter 51: Chapter 51

Slyvester received an SOS message from Ryan.

[“Help me take Chaylen back home! He’s drunk!”]

He didn’t think twice, and he went out of the boarding house as fast as he could. When he arrived at the address Ryan had sent, Slyvester doubted his eyes.

The wasted Chaylen is lying down on the ground. Ryan was sitting beside him with dark circles under her eyes.

“Ryan?! You are not okay!” Slyvester said. It wasn’t a question; it was a statement.

“As you can see, this guy is the main reason why,” Ryan answered, pointing to Chaylen.

Deep asleep, Chaylen mumbled things that were hard to decipher. Sighing, Sylvester observed Chaylen, but without empathy. Next, he kicked Chaylen’s leg while saying. “Why did he drink so much when he couldn’t take care of himself?”

Chaylen only moaned, but he didn’t wake up. Gradually, Slyvester looked at Ryan. He worried Ryan would think he was too violent for kicking Chaylen. If that’s what he feared, then he doesn’t need to be wary.

“That’s fine. Kick him all you want. I already did that before,” Ryan, an impatient woman like Slyvester, confessed.

Slyvester found it cute and scary at the same time.

“Sorry for suddenly calling you. Believe me, I randomly chose who to ask for help,” Ryan said as she stood up.

“Nah,” Slyvester responded. “No need to say sorry. In fact, I felt glad you called me.” He pointed to Chaylen and gritted his teeth. “A drunk Chaylen is equal to an erupting volcano. He’s very dangerous.”

Slyvester and the other guys knew that among them, Chaylen has the least endurance when it comes to suppressing desires. Whenever Chaylen teased Ryan, Slyvester would interfere with them, with the thought of saving Ryan. But if Chaylen really romantically likes Ryan, it is more dangerous, Slyvester thought.

‘Even I found it hard to suppress my urge to touch Ryan,’ Slyvester thought. He was really thankful Ryan called for help.

Sylvester carried Chaylen on his own.

“Slyv, can you carry him alone? He’s pretty heavy. Want me to help?” Ryan offered.

“That’s fine. I grew accustomed to his weight since I carried him before.”

He was about to lift Chaylen but paused when heard a growl from the side.

“There’s a dog,” Ryan carefully whispered.

The growling dog has a collar around its neck. Perchance, he escaped from the owner’s yard. Letting a dog off the street is against the rules. But that is the least of their concerns. Slyvester and Ryan could feel the dog’s ferocity, they feared it might attack them!

Its teeth sharpened as it growled. The tail of the American bull wasn’t wagging, and its eyes gleamed like a predator. Although it is small, a dog’s bites shouldn’t be belittled.

“S-Slyvester. I think it’ll bite us,” Ryan warned, slowly hiding behind Slyvester.

Slyvester is a dog lover. He even dreamed of petting one. But that doesn’t mean he can take any dog, especially a dog as violent as that. Still, he wants to prove to Ryan that he can protect her because he is the man.

“D-Don’t worry, Ryan,” Slyvester said, stuttering, “Dog can feel humans’ emotions. If you show that you’re scared, then he will attack. So, be b-brave.”

Ryan observed Slyvester from head to toe. His knees were trembling; so much for the guy who told her to be courageous.

“Slyvester, you’re trembling.”

“If you can’t help trembling, then don’t admit it either.”

“Is that another rule?”

“The second. Third, don’t look directly at the dog’s eyes. If you look at it the way I am looking at the dog right now, he will chase after u… ahhhhh!”

Slyvester couldn’t even finish his words because the dog ran towards them.

“Waaaaaaaaaah!” they shouted, running at full speed. Memories flashed back in their minds as they jolted away.

It seemed true that you could reminisce about everything within seconds if you were on the verge of death. Fortunately, they survived. They noticed the dog wasn’t chasing after them anymore.

They stopped running and caught their breaths.

“I really thought we were going to die,” Ryan said while holding her tummy.

Sweat dripping on his chin, Slyvester looked at her and agreed, “Me too. That was damn scary.”

After resting, the two of them looked at each other. They laughed abruptly, recalling how they squealed while escaping.

“I didn’t know you could shout so loud,” Ryan teased.

“Who won’t? Any big man will get scared if a…”

Big man.

When Slyvester mentioned those words, the two of them realized that it seemed they forgot something so important before running away from the dog.

What was it? They asked themselves inwardly.

It took them long seconds to remember Chaylen, whom they left.

“Chaylen!” They shouted in unison.

Perhaps, that was the main reason why the dog stopped chasing.

“Does a dog eat a human?” Slyvester asked worriedly,

Gulping, Ryan begged, “D-Don’t joke like that!”

They both looked in the direction where they left Chaylen. Driven by an adrenaline rush, Slyvester and Ryan went back to the place.

Mercifully, Chaylen is still alive. The bad news? The dog was still there, currently sniffing Chaylen’s butt.

“Rest in peace, Chaylen,” Slyvester murmured while folding his hands together.

Ryan hit his shoulder.

“Ouch!”

“What ‘Rest in Peace’? We need to help him,” Ryan demanded. “Do something before the dog bites Chaylen.”

Slyvester caressed the shoulder Ryan had hit.

“What will I do?” Slyvester complained. “What if the dog bites me instead? At least, Chaylen was unscathed. The dog doesn’t attack him, look!” He pointed his finger at the unconscious Chaylen.

As soon as they looked back at Chaylen, they saw the dog licking Chaylen’s face.

Their faces crumpled in disgust.

“Hey!” Slyvester shouted at the dog, and the dog looked at him and growled.

“Grrr…”

Slyvester and Ryan gulped. The dog was ready to attack again! However…

“Recca!”

The owner of the dog appeared. She held the dog’s leash.

“Why did you escape? Thankfully, you’re safe.”

Slyvester felt annoyed after hearing the owner. She’s glad that the dog was safe? Then how about the people who ran in fear because of her pet?

“Miss,” Slyvester called, walking closer. The dog barked at him, he stepped backward and talked from a great distance. “Y-You are aware that it is not right to let your dog out of the house.”

“I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to let him out, he escaped from the yard. Recca is a good dog. He only chased people but he won’t bite,” the owner explained.

“Even so! It is dangerous for…”

Slyvester stopped talking when Ryan held his arm. He looked at her. Ryan nodded her head.

‘Is she asking me to calm down and stop blaming the owner?’ Slyvester thought.

He pondered if it was Ryan’s kindness which mesmerized him.

‘She’s so kind. I am falling in lov…’

“ONLY CHASE PEOPLE? ONLY? DAMN IT! WE WERE SO F*CKING SCARED WHEN YOUR DOG CHASED AFTER US! HOW WERE SO SURE THAT IT WOULD NOT BITE? YOUR DOG IS DANGEROUS SO KEEP AN EYE ON IT!” Ryan shouted; veins almost protruding out of her neck.

In Slyvester’s eyes, Ryan looked like a hissing cat. NO. A TIGER.

Scared, Slyvester shut his lips and stayed in the corner like an obedient puppy.

‘I didn’t know she’d be this scary when she’s mad,’ he learned.

“I am really really sorry. I will look after my dog,” the owner apologized countless times until Ryan’s wrath subsided. Then she took her dog back home.

“Shouting like that was stress relieving,” Ryan breathed out.

She’s kind of like an angel? Hell no.

Slyvester carried Chaylen to Chaylen’s car and placed him in the back seat. He went straight to the driver’s seat, while Ryan took the passenger seat.

“Slyvester, you can drive a car?”

Slyvester didn’t answer. Ryan’s eyes thinly narrowed.

“You have a license, aren’t you?” she asked, suspiciously.

“O-Of course, I have. I got it three years ago.”

“I see.”

Ryan looked back at Chaylen, who was sleeping in the back seat before she buckled her seatbelt.

“But just in case,” Slyvester mumbled. “Hold on tight and pray.”

“What? W-Wait, what do you mean?”

Slyvester turned on the engine. He gulped as he looked forward and stepped on the accelerator.

“I know how to drive a motorcycle. But it’s been three years since I drove a car.”

“Huh?”

Before Ryan could complain, Slyvester released the Neutral gear, and then…

“SLYVESTER! I DON’T WANT TO DIE YET! STOP THE CAR!”

The car zoomed out, so fast, Ryan saw the light knocking on heaven’s door.
