Chapter 35: Chapter 35
Ryan’s POV
Chaylen and I arrived at the StarB*cks, where I will meet the man who picked up my card holder.
“Where is he?” I mumbled while looking around the place.
The man said that he’s wearing a black suit. There aren’t that many who’s wearing a suit inside the shop, but still, it is hard to find him in one go.
“Did he tell you what he looks like?” Chaylen asked me.
“He said that he’s wearing a black suit.”
“That’s all? Man. Is he the only one who can wear a black suit today?”
I shrugged my shoulders and continued looking around. I noticed that many females here were staring at the guy next to me.
Well, I have to admit that Chaylen is dangerously sexy and handsome. He has the aura of being a
‘P*nty ripper’, which would not go with my style.
But I felt proud standing next to a famous guy like him.
While smiling evilly, my eyes caught a middle-aged man waving at me.
‘Maybe he is the one I’ve been looking for!’
“I think that is him!” I gasped before I waved at the man. I walked towards him and told Chaylen, “Just like what I promised, I will erase the video and…”
I stopped talking when I realized that Chaylen didn’t follow me. When I looked back, I saw him standing still near the entrance. He was not moving or blinking.
It was as if he saw a ghost.
Therefore, I walked back to him and asked.
“What’s wrong with you? Let’s go.”
I pulled the hemline of his shirt and forced him to walk with me.
Soon we perched down on the empty seats across from the old man who picked up my cardholder.
“Sorry, I’m late,” I said.
“It’s f-fine,” the man answered hesitantly.
‘He stuttered. Why? Am I too cute for him to stutter?’
Washing away this silly idea in my head, I noticed the man’s features. He resembles someone I know, but I couldn’t spell it out. It was at the tip of my tongue.
“This is your cardholder, Miss.”
He gave me the cardholder using both of his hands, which made him look like a gentleman.
It is easy to tell that he’s an educated person with the way he talks, acts, and dresses.
“Thank you so much. I owe you a lot. What’s your name, Sir?”
“Gilbhey,” he introduced. “You can call me Gilbhey.”
After saying his name, the man looked at the guy sitting beside me.
‘Is it only me? I felt like Chaylen and this man knew each other.’
It was then I remembered who this man resembles. It was…
“Let’s go back,” Chaylen said as he held my arm and pulled me up.
“Wait a minute. I…”
“Why don’t you drink first?” Mr. Gilbhey said, which halted Chaylen and me.
Chaylen and I both looked back at Gilbhey.
“Sit down, Chaylen. Let’s have a drink first.”
‘As expected, he and Chaylen knew each other.’
Wondering how Chaylen would react, I turned my head quickly to the guy holding my arm. His clutch tightened, making me wince.
“No,” Chaylen answered.
His expression was bad. Lightning strikes his mushy brows, and he gritted his teeth as if biting a bullet. It was the first time I saw Chaylen in a deep pit of fury.
“I doubt you’d like to eat with a trashy person like me,” Chaylen added.
I gulped wordlessly.
“Chaylen,” Gilbhey called.
“You avoided me as much as you could. So, why did you ask me to eat with you? Here, in front of many people? How hypocrite,” Chaylen said and pulled me.
My hand swayed and by accident, I dropped Mr. Ghilbey’s wallet, which was on the table. When the wallet fell open, Chaylen and I saw a picture inside the wallet.
It is a picture of a young boy with black hair, rounded deer-like eyes, pale skin, and red lips.
‘I knew who it was. But as much as possible, I pretended ignorantly.’
Chaylen wouldn’t like it if I found out his secret. Yet when I looked back at him, Chaylen’s eyes were misty. His brows crumpled as he bit his lower lip. It was the expression of someone who was on the verge of crying.
Mr. Gilbhey picked up the wallet. He closed it and stared back at Chaylen.
“My son,” he called.
I wanted to pretend ignorant but the situation didn’t allow me to.
Chaylen turned around. Without a response, he exited the shop and left us alone.
I don’t know how to talk to Mr. Gilbhey after that. Thus, I only nodded my head to him, as a way of showing my respect, and then I chased after Chaylen.
Outside the shop, I looked around. I saw Chaylen enter the car.
‘His back looks lonely.’
This guy was always confident with whatever he does. Yet, seeing that lonely back of his, I was befuddled.
‘What should I say?’
I was lost for words. I didn’t know his history and I knew I was not in the right position to give him comfort. Even so, I gathered my strength and walked closer.
I opened the door of the passenger seat and looked at Chaylen, who was sitting in the driver’s seat.
There, Chaylen’s expression was blank. He looked at the free space while taking a deep breath.
‘Are you okay?’ I wanted to ask this question, but no words came out of my pursed lips. I just looked at him until Chaylen decided to meet my gaze.
“My dad hates me,” he said.
Chaylen licked the corner of his lip, frowned and heaved a sigh before continuing.
“But why did I see that? That… that… picture inside his wallet. Why? Why would he put my picture in his wallet if he despises me?”
Tears fell from his beautiful eyes.
“I wanted to hate him,” he sobbed. “I had to.”
Chaylen is a jerk. I knew that from the beginning.
But today, I found out the reason why he decided to live like trash.
