Chapter 51: Chapter 51
Jack pulls away from her when he sees me glaring at him and walk over to me.
"Before you start casting, it's not what you think. The Lady is in pain for the disappearance of her brother and I'm just trying to comfort her."
"Comfort eh?" I snort, irritably.
"Yes."
"There are other ways to comfort someone that doesn't include shoving your tongue in her mouth."
"I don't know of any."
"The Lady is quite older, don't you think it's going to spark up problems? You're seventeen."
He raises a hand and suspends my next question. "First off, her name is Phoebe, not lady secondly she's twenty-seven, not quite old if you ask me. Thirdly, I'm going to be eighteen in a couple of months so..." He argues reasonably.
"Listen to me, Jackson Snowfall and listen well the last thing I'm gonna let is another Snowfall having something with the Gates." Not after everything happening, but I don't say that out loud.
He sighs and shakes his head. "I can't, I like her."
"You just met her!"
"So?" He shrugs his shoulder with a less concerned attitude that I'm really not ready to take.
"You are going to call it over." I snap harshly.
"Why would I?!" He challenges almost innocently.
"Because I know that the only thing you are interested in with her is her money." I blurt out before I can stop myself.
Okay, maybe I took it a little too far.
Pain sparkles in his blue eyes, but he brushes it away and clenches his teeth. "Such a poor judgment coming from someone I've spent my whole life with. Yes, I am poor, and yes I do hope to not be poor all my life, but money is not all I think about you know, I'm surprised you never noticed that."
My eyes fall, "I'm sorry..." I grumble.
"Come back with an apology when you're sincerely ready to apologize." He says, walking away from me back to the girl called Phoebe.
Oh heaven, he's hurt! I hurt him, I'm a horrible sister!
I was wrong, money is not the only thing Jack might want from this Phoebe, but how am I to know that? Like common Jack is jack and ever will remain Jack and his motive are going to be unclear most of the time, but that doesn't mean he can't have one if he wants to. I judged him and was quick to criticise his motives and I'm not going to blame it on the night of the happening, I owe him an apology later.
I walk from there into the hall, with thought and worry in my head. On one side is Jack, but on another bigger side is Rory. I've been worried and bombarded with the thought of the many reasons Rory isn't here now. I wonder where he is, and what he's thinking, and if he's happy, or sad, or if something bad has happened.
"Hey! Back to earth, Taylor." I see a hand wave in front of me and I look up to see Josh.
"Josh? How? Where." I look around and realise that I'm no longer in the hall, but out in the garden seated in the seat of the waterfall.
"I saw you wandering in the garden and I figured you were looking for something, but when I got closer I realise you were deep in thought." He explains, his blue eyes searching mine for something or a clue like it's there. "You're okay?"
"Yes, just a little disoriented." I release a weary sigh. "Jack is mad at me and Rory is not yet here."
"That means you're not okay."
I shake my head and a broken whimper escapes me. "No. Everyone knows about Rory's other woman, and it just a matter of time before they place it together and know it's me."
"But that's not the reason you're scared is it?" Asks a familiar voice and we turn back to see Mycole standing close by, watching us with an amusing eye.
He's wearing a blue long sleeve and a black jacket, with a black bold tie. His hair trimmed and neatly arranged to the side and his shoes shining and neatly polished. A perfect appearance for a perfect engagement party.
"You," I say, not surprised to see him because Jake had told me that he was invited by Paris and so I knew he was going to be here.
If you're here to make me sad or feel bad, it's too late because I already am.
"Is that how we are now? I don't even get a hey?" He raises a dull brow.
"I'll leave now," Josh says before walking away.
"Well 'hey's' are for friends and the last time I checked, we weren't friends." I bit out harshly at him.
Why am I taking my frustration on everyone today?
"That's a little too rude don't you think?"
I shrug, "Maybe, but you're welcome to leave at any time." I give him a smile that wore off in seconds.
We stay in silence and my mind drifts into the world of thoughts and as I begin to wander off, Mycole begins to speak, snapping me back into reality.
"I'm sorry. Yes, I admit was wrong with the way I went about everything. I accused you even when I was guilty of the same offence. Wanting someone that's someone else's. I didn't act like a friend would and for that I'm sorry." He walks to where I'm seated and sits down, bringing him closer to me. "I miss you." he says, his cheek heating up, "I miss my best friend."
"You were the one who left your place in my life."
"Well, what can I do to refill it?" He asks, a little too eager if you ask me.
My brow shoots up. "Are you asking to be my bf again?"
"Well if that place isn't filled up yet."
"Why would you think that?"
"Ginger-haired guy?" He says, sceptically, scratching his head.
My eyes widen in disbelieve. "Keenan? He's just a friend!" I say laughing uncontrollably.
"What can I say? A guy can't help but feel insecure when his girl hangs out and have more fun with someone else." He teases with his eyebrow.
"I missed you too, buddy." I pat his shoulder and his hands lock around it.
His eyes sparkle happily. "Really?" I nod with a deep smile. "Come here then." He opens his arms and I enter, resting my head on his chest to feel his steady heartbeat.
"Do you ever get worried?" I ask, peeking up at him to see his relaxed expression.
"No." He replies and I stay silent before he speaks. "Worrying won't solve anything, praying would."
"I worry." I admit, "I'm scared not for the world finding out about Rory and me, but if what we feel would be strong enough when the world finds out."
"I know." He says, softly stroking the small of my back. "I'm probably going to regret this later, but Rory is in the hall, go find him." With that, he pushes me off him and gives me a supporting nod.
With my heart pounding loudly in my chest, I take to my heel, not wanting to spend another minutes away when I know that Rory is close by.
