Chapter 1060: Chapter 1060
Holding flashlights, two teams clad in raincoats met under the cover of night.
A quick response came through the curtain of rain.
"Be careful, that kid might have gained some kind of opportunity, he’s capable of killing E-class Transcendents. If you encounter him, do not engage directly, hold him off, send a signal, and wait for reinforcements."
The shadowy figure who spoke first quickly advised.
The voices from within the rain responded again.
The two teams quickly dispersed, searching in different directions.
Meanwhile, not far off beside a black sedan, a slightly young looking boy leaned behind the car door, poking his head out to watch the dispersing crowd.
He could feel that among these two groups, there was at least one person with strength approaching that of the man with the sword.
Though their actual power might not match that of the swordsman, it was still enough to easily kill him.
He looked up at the spacious ground and the big trucks parked nearby.
This seemed to be a massive, fully-enclosed industrial park.
Those heretics had occupied it and made this place their stronghold.
And now, he was deep within this park.
He had entered while dazed and was unfamiliar with the size and pathways of the park, and his luck didn’t appear to be very good.
The two who had interrogated him seemed to have triggered some alarm; shortly after he left the prison building, their bodies were discovered, and the people around started searching for him.
Along the way, he had already encountered several Transcendents of the same kind that could kill him.
And those search teams were also swarming in groups; even if there were no experts, there were numerous people, too many for him to handle quickly. Once entangled, more and more people would surround him, and he would get dragged down to his death.
So, he tried his best to conceal his form and prevent himself from being discovered.
Only after making sure the crowd around had moved on did the boy let out a slight sigh of relief and slowly emerged from behind the sedan.
Then he looked toward the road ahead, somewhat lost.
At this moment, he was at a small square, which connected to five roads. He only knew one road was the way he came from, not knowing which among the remaining four to choose.
He didn’t have a map of this industrial park and had never been here before.
But just as he gritted his teeth, preparing to randomly pick a road, he noticed an invisible shadow flicker briefly within his field of view.
Immediately after, an arrow scrawl appeared at his feet, pointing him towards the path to his left front.
He was slightly stunned for a moment, then crouched down and ran towards the left front, using the cover for assistance.
And behind him, an invisible blade erased the marks on the ground.
"That little rat ran away?"
Flickering light illuminated a figure in the office.
A tall man stood by the window, looking out at the dark sky and the fierce storm, his voice slightly oppressive, "What about those brothers? One E-class, one F-class, can’t even keep an eye on a kid?"
"Boss, they’re dead, it seems like that kid killed them."
A relatively skinny man with a goatee said slowly from behind the tall figure.
"A kid killed two Transcendents?"
The tall figure turned around, his gaze icy as he looked at the man with the goatee.
The man with the goatee wiped the sweat from his forehead, "the kid might have completed some sort of ’Awakening,’ gaining some extraordinary powers, but he shouldn’t have gotten far. He’s still in the park, I’ve already mobilized everyone to capture him."
"There are only so many F-class Talents in the world, I’ve never heard of any that could kill both an F-class and an E-class,"
The tall man turned back, looking out at the torrential rain, "I give you permission to mobilize everyone at the stronghold, catch that little rat, and find out all his secrets."
The man with the goatee said softly, "What if the kid refuses to talk?"
The tall man said calmly, "This is a critical moment, we cannot afford any loss."
Hearing this, the goateed man hesitated for a moment, then wiped the sweat from his forehead and said hesitantly, "If, boss, I mean if, that kid ran away..."
The tall man turned around, his gaze icy as he looked at the goateed man behind him.
The goateed man stiffened his neck, facing the tall man’s icy gaze, and said with difficulty, "This incident happened so suddenly, we might be dealing with something unexpected, boss, we should still prepare for the worst, keep this batch of Human Sacrifices, and still have a chance to redeem ourselves."
He paused, then continued with a tense and raspy voice, "Also, when I was gathering people, I found that the deputy captain is unreachable, and he has always been at odds with you..."
The tall man glanced at the goateed man’s eyes, "Are you suggesting that he might be ruining things? Could he have already betrayed the Rong Guang Society?"
The goateed man stiffened his neck and said nothing more.
The tall man turned back, continuing to watch the storm outside the window, "The main convergence point towards the City of Rong Guang is confidential, it changes every time, I don’t know the exact location,
"Of course, I know what you’re going to say—’in special circumstances, apply for early transfer’,
"But I hope there won’t be any ’special circumstances’,"
He paused in his speech, his gaze somber, "Search, whether it’s that foolish deputy captain or that little rat, I want them found."
The goateed man responded and immediately said.
An electrified metal net was fixed atop the towering walls, occasionally sparking amidst the curtain of rain.
The crouching teenager behind the flowerbed looked up at the high-voltage nets and swallowed.
He lacked confidence to withstand the high voltage and climb over, and the wall was too high with no footholds.
He turned his head, looking in the other direction, where a wide gate with a car barrier appeared in his field of view.
Patrolling personnel moved back and forth in front of this gate.
From some point, the number of search teams doubled, even under the guidance of arrows, he found the correct path, but he nearly got caught by the patrol several times.
Fortunately, he was small enough to hide in relatively small spaces; otherwise, he really would have been discovered.
Taking a light breath, the teenager’s gaze continued to linger on the dense patrolling personnel.
He had just checked; the only way out without confronting the high-voltage net was through this gate.
But he couldn’t expose himself, getting caught would mean being tracked and he most likely wouldn’t escape.
He had once watched through a glass window as people in a gaming store played games, watching them sneak and kill in a virtual world, thinking it was thrilling and fun.
He never imagined that he would actually get to play this game himself, and it was the offline, real-life version.
The only difference was that if he made a mistake, he would truly die.
Gazing at those patrolmen, his mind seemed influenced and he calmed down like never before.
The gate only had a car barrier, and not those closed heavy iron gates, so he could directly climb over.
But the patrolmen’s field of view almost had no blind spots, he had to draw some of them away to get through the gate.
Watching them, among them were Transcendents and well-trained soldiers.
But each person was cloaked with a vague Shadow, something he started seeing after becoming a Transcendent.
He didn’t know what it was, but invisible voices in his mind told him that this Shadow was a person’s ’Soul’.
And it seemed he could ’do something’ to these Shadows.
He had tried it when he was on his way here; if he focused his attention on the ’Souls’ of the weaker people, he could slightly disturb them, causing them to have a moment of distraction.
However, this operation would give him a severe headache and make him slightly dizzy.
It seemed to be his Extraordinary Ability.
Continuously pondering his available ’chips’, the teenager realized that even using all these, he seemed to have no chance to break through the blockade.
The main issue was that he couldn’t think of a practical route for the breakthrough.
He had never experienced such a situation, completely lacking experience.
As these thoughts flashed through his mind, he unconsciously lowered his head, looking forward through the rain curtain.
Then, on the road ahead, he saw an arrow scratch.
His sight followed the arrow forward, noticing the gap between the gate entrance and the security booth.
Taking that path, he could use the security booth to cover part of his body, and given his size, he might just be able to squeeze through that gap...
Lost in thought, he took a step forward and jumped behind the closest flower stand to the security booth.
The patrolling personnel in the distance raised their heads in confusion and looked this way.
These guys are too sensitive.
The youth directly picked up a pebble from the ground behind him, flicked his fingers, and the pebble flew out, landing behind the patrolling personnel who were looking his way.
Several surrounding patrol members instantly turned around, guns pointed toward the darkness.
Then, the youth turned his head and looked towards the rear of the security booth, where two face-to-face patrol members were chatting.
At this moment, the patrol member facing the youth seemed to sense something, his gaze shifting towards the youth’s direction.
Without hesitation, the youth looked at the two patrol members, used his ability to make the one looking his way daze out; then, he dashed forward in a swift move, reaching out and clasping the neck of the patrol member facing away from him, forcefully breaking it.
Before the ability wore off and the other patrol member who was facing him could react, he had already circled behind this patrol member and with a fierce force, broke his neck too.
All of this happened in a flash; the two patrol members collapsed on the ground in the blink of an eye.
The youth had some trouble controlling his strength, breaking a few too many bones in the process, but the outcome was good.
Looking at the two bodies on the ground, the youth quickly dragged them behind the security booth before the patrolling personnel, whose attention had been diverted, turned back.
But before he could catch his breath, the window at the rear of the security booth above him was pulled open, and a gun-bearing patrol member, having heard a noise, poked his head out of the window, looked down at the youth and the two bodies he was dragging.
In that instant, the patrol member inside the booth opened his mouth ready to shout and simultaneously lifted his gun.
The youth gritted his teeth, enduring the dizziness and pain, and once again touched the soul of this patrol member, plunging him into a brief stupor.
He then hesitated no longer, pulling out a service dagger from the belt of one of the bodies on the ground, suddenly stood up, and plunged the knife into the neck of the patrol member inside the booth.
Following the sound of blood rushing into the windpipe, he shook forcefully, causing the corpse of the patrol member to collapse inside the booth.
Thunder boomed in the sky, accompanied by the crisp sound of raindrops hitting the roof of the booth, masking the noises in the dark.
Blood seeping from the door mingled with the flowing rainwater, flowing into a nearby sewage drain grate.
The youth looked down at his blood-stained, burning hot palm, gasping heavily, his heart pounding violently, as if trying to break free from his body and jump out of his mouth.
"Nothing? Was it a cat?"
"Why would there be a cat here? What are you thinking?"
"Or did the wind move something?"
Faint voices of conversation came from afar, the patrol personnel who had been lured away seemed to have ended their search.
The youth took a deep breath, pulled out a dagger from the belt of another patrol member, glanced at a nearby gap, and squeezed through it.
Following that, he rolled over, evading the field of view of the patrol members ahead, and ran into the rain-drenched streets ahead.
Behind him, between the flower stands, an invisible blade ’gazed’ at him as he fled, gently wiping away the traces on the ground, transforming into a shadow and disappearing.
"Do you guys feel like someone’s missing?"
Murmured discussions arose amidst the rain.
The tall man turned around, grabbing the goateed man behind him by the neck and lifting him up, "You mobilized so many people and spent so much time, and then you come back and tell me that you let a kid who’s not even of age escape?"
The goateed man’s face intensely reddened, he opened his mouth, seemingly unable to breathe.
The tall man coldly stared at the goateed man.
The goateed man’s eyeballs bulged, mouth open, his neck increasingly tightly squeezed, his legs hanging in the air helplessly struggling.
The tall man seemed to realize something, swung his arm forcefully, throwing the goateed man onto the ground.
Accompanied by the sound of collision and a long intake of breath, the goat-bearded man trembled as he rose to his feet, looking at the tall man while stuttering and trembling with a hint of crying in his voice,
"Boss, we didn’t know how that little thing found the way. He killed the guards at West Gate and sneaked out from there."
The tall man snorted coldly, taking a deep breath.
"Boss, someone must have helped that little thing,"
The goat-bearded man crawled on the ground, continuing to tremble, "otherwise he would never have been here before, yet he knew exactly where to go. The West Gate, where there are a lot of covers and it’s easy to escape."
"What are you trying to say? Are you suggesting that the deputy captain has defected?"
The tall man raised his voice, "So where is that brainless idiot? Did you find him?"
The goat-bearded man bowed his head, speaking softly, "He was in charge of the Human Sacrifices, taking pleasure in tormenting them. His subordinates assigned to him often couldn’t find him. We went to the area of the Human Sacrifices, but didn’t find him there."
"A grown man doesn’t just vanish into thin air, does he?"
The tall man raised his hand and punched the wall beside him.
With a booming sound, the wall was smashed into a big hole, and rocks flew into the rain.
The goat-bearded man, still with his head down, said softly, "If they really have all run away, then our base might have been exposed..."
The tall man glanced at him and took a deep breath.
The goat-bearded man shrank back and left the office.
Meanwhile, the tall man had already walked to the desk nearby, he lowered his head, looking at the telephone on the desk.
"Sir, some people said they saw the deputy captain last enter ’The Pen’,"
A young man hurried towards the goat-bearded man emerging from the door, quickly saying, "I just went to ask those who are imprisoned in The Pen, and they said they know the whereabouts of the deputy captain."
"You went to question those despicable beasts?"
The goat-bearded man showed displeasure, but finally suppressed it, "Then what did they tell you?"
The young man hesitated, then slowly said, "’The Divine Punishment of ’K’ descended, and the deputy captain was struck dead—"
The goat-bearded man slapped the young man across the face, "Do you know what you are saying? The Destroyer K struck down His own Believer? You believe the words of beasts?"
He withdrew his hand, looking at the somewhat hurt young man, "Don’t let me hear such nonsense from you again, nor do I want to hear any talk about this nonsense in the base."
The young man covered his face, trembling and nodding.
The goat-bearded man glanced at the tightly closed office door, turned around, and quickly left down the corridor.
At that moment inside the office, the tall man still stood behind the desk, his hand on the telephone.
Fierce wind and rain blew in through the hole he had just smashed, causing the splendid chandelier to creak and add a slightly desolate atmosphere to the room.
The tall man took several deep breaths and hesitated multiple times without picking up the telephone.
The boy had run away, and the risk of the base being exposed had greatly increased. The Human Sacrifices must be moved ahead of schedule.
But picking up the telephone would mean admitting his error.
A flash of thunder brought intense brightness, illuminating the office and also illuminating the young man standing behind the tall man, hands crossed, body leaning against the wall, calmly gazing at the tall man.
Eventually, the tall man made a decision.
He picked up the telephone on the desk, dialed a fixed number,
"Hello, this is the Feklay South Base. Please connect me with the second vice-president,
"Our base has a traitor. Considering the base’s exposure risk and given our current number of Human Sacrifices has reached the relocation condition, we request to relocate ahead of schedule, moving the Human Sacrifices to the convergence point tonight."
