Chapter 1054: Chapter 1054
Big Beach Express Hotel
"The rain is pouring down."
The man stood at the doorway, his hand on the room doorknob, and swiped open the door.
"Do you think what our daughter said is true?"
His wife, carrying a take-out box, looked at the man beside her.
He tucked away the room card, his hand still on the doorknob, slightly startled, then turned his head to his wife. He quickly realized what she was referring to, "You mean that Central Earth girl who told her that this city is dangerous?"
The wife nodded slightly.
"In theory, we shouldn’t pay attention to things that sound like priestly prophecies,"
The man sighed lightly, "but ever since setting foot on the land of the Western Lands, I’ve had a bad feeling."
"It might not be a ’priestly prophecy’,"
The wife looked at her husband and spoke softly, "Didn’t our daughter say that the Central Earth girl has been to Newland City-State? She has been to Newland City-State and then came to the Western Lands,"
She paused, then continued in a soft voice, "I’ve heard from colleagues who came from Central Earth to that they are now deploying some people to the Western Lands."
"Are you saying that the little girl is from the Research Institute?"
The man looked slightly stunned, "If that’s the case, then we need to leave immediately. Have you checked for flights?"
The wife nodded, picked up her phone, and opened a page,
"Feklay doesn’t have direct flights to Newland; we could fly to Rodan first and then from Rodan back to Newland City-State. Rodan should be relatively safe. The earliest flight is in two hours,"
She looked up at her husband, "With the rain so heavy, should we wait for it to stop before leaving?"
"Let’s book the flights first,"
The man spoke in a gentle voice, "Call our daughter, and we’ll take a taxi to the airport. Who knows when things might erupt, better to act now rather than later. This trip of ours is really not an easy one."
The wife nodded lightly, holding the phone, ready to book the tickets.
At this moment, the man also twisted the door handle and pushed the room door inward.
The door opened just a crack before it got stuck.
The man pushed a few times but couldn’t open it.
The wife noticed her husband’s actions and asked curiously.
"It seems like our daughter put the security lock on."
The man tried to push the door again.
Then, through the gap in the door, he looked into the room, only to be greeted by darkness.
He cleared his throat and shouted, "Nia, can you open the door for daddy? Nia?"
There was no response from the dark room.
Then he shouted twice more loudly, but still no response.
The wife asked somewhat puzzled.
The man frowned slightly.
"Let’s go downstairs and ask the front desk if there’s a way,"
The wife suggested, "Or wait for Nia to wake up on her own."
The man sighed, "She’s never slept this soundly before."
He stepped back slightly and closed the room door.
Just as they were about to turn and leave, a faint sound came from behind the door.
"Did you just hear something?"
The man stopped and looked at his wife.
"Was it the security lock being unlocked?"
The wife said with slight uncertainty, "Did Nia wake up?"
The man looked up at the tightly closed door and reached out again, grasping the handle and giving it a twist.
The door remained immovable.
Then the man looked down at the door and awkwardly took out the room card to swipe at the lock again.
With a soft click, the lock was undone.
"I have a bad feeling about this, stay behind me."
He whispered to his wife behind him, gently twisted the doorknob, and pushed open the door.
What met his eyes was the pitch-dark room, "Nia? Are you there?!"
The speeding taxi made a sharp tail swing on the wet road, its front turning 180 degrees to stop at the front of the express hotel.
The girl in the driver’s seat shoved her phone into her pocket, directly pushed open the door, and rushed into the hotel lobby, heading straight for the staircase next to it.
"Nia, are you there?!"
Beneath the dark wooden bed, the girl listened to the soft call, shivering and curling up.
It was the voice of her parents.
She clenched the bag holding the grass-woven amulet tightly, wanting to give a warning, but dared not make a sound.
She glanced at a corner of the blanket that had fallen to the floor, cautiously moved her body, trying to get closer to the blanket corner, to move it and give her parents a hint.
But at that moment, a soft collision came from the doorway.
It was dad’s puzzled and angry voice.
Then, the sound of two bodies falling to the floor.
"Are they taken care of?"
A hoarse voice echoed in the darkness.
"Two adults, and one little one."
A somewhat sharp voice answered the question.
"Oh, right, there’s also a daughter,"
The hoarse voice seemed to realize something and questioned, "They didn’t bring their daughter with them when they went out? So where’s their daughter?"
"They mentioned that she seemed to be in the room,"
The sharp voice responded, heading deeper into the room, "Strange, we didn’t see anyone when we came in."
"Maybe she snuck out to play?"
With a light scratching sound, the hoarse voice suggested.
"Go downstairs and ask the front desk."
The sharp voice proposed again, "Let’s take these two away first."
The hoarse voice agreed.
Then, the sound of slowly receding footsteps.
The pitch-black room fell silent once more.
The little girl huddled, trembling as she listened to the sounds outside.
She couldn’t understand what the two voices were saying, but she could hear the sound of footsteps fading away.
Not until the footsteps completely vanished did she hesitantly move her nose, inching closer to the blanket corner again.
Finally, she reached the blanket corner, covered her head with it, and cautiously reached out to pull back the corner to look outside.
But behind the blanket, in the dim darkness, a hideous scarred face appeared in the girl’s field of view.
The face gazed at the little girl, with a scarred mouth curving into a wicked smile on both sides, revealing sharp teeth covered in saliva. The sharp voice rang through the pitch-black night, "Little girl, what are you looking for?"
The girl’s hand clutching the blanket corner tensed instantly, and her curled-up body stiffened in that instant.
She opened her mouth, but no sound could escape; fear had seized her throat.
The hideous face seemed quite pleased with its handiwork, its smile blooming ever more rampant.
A cold voice echoed through the darkness.
Then the little girl saw a slender, fair hand reach out from the darkness, grabbing the ghastly figure’s head, and yanking it downward.
The laughing face was smashed onto the floor, making a violent noise.
Then that hand lifted the hideous head once more.
"Stupid B*tch... I am... a Transcendent..."
The sharp voice rose again.
Blood had already covered the ghastly face.
The hand gripping his head applied force once more, smashing his head into the ground again.
The sturdy floor tiles instantly shattered, blood seeping into the cracks between them.
The girl lifted the hideous face, looking at the now blood-covered visage, "You are a Transcendent of what?"
The hideous face opened its mouth, several teeth spitting out.
A hoarse voice shouted from the side, and a wide, chubby figure wielding a small knife lunged towards the girl holding down the hideous-faced man.
Lin Chichi, holding the hideous face’s head, stood up, raised her foot, and kicked into the chest of the wide figure.
Accompanied by a muffled sound, the chubby figure flew backward, colliding with the wall, and fainted.
Immediately after, the girl casually threw the dazed hideous-faced man onto the ground, stepped on his chest, rummaged through his pockets, and found several anesthesia needles.
The hideous-faced man finally began to react; looking at Lin Chichi’s actions, he raised his hand, seemingly preparing to do something.
But Lin Chichi had already lifted the anesthesia needle, piercing it into his body.
He struggled a bit, then fainted.
Then Lin Chichi stood up, walked over to the passed-out chubby figure, and administered an anesthesia needle to him as well.
Finally, she turned back, squatted in front of the bed, and extended her hand towards the little girl hiding under it, smiling gently in Tia language, "It’s okay now."
The little girl raised her head, her eyes falling on those blood-stained, fair palms, along with the tender smile.
She cautiously reached out her hand, clasping that blood-smeared hand tightly.
Lin Chichi tugged gently, pulling the little girl out from under the bed.
And at that moment, the little girl got a full view of the scene in the room.
The man with the hideous face lay beside the bed, and her parents were lying at the doorway, their chests heaving; they were still breathing.
"Thank you, big sister."
The little girl turned around, her eyes tinged with residual alarm as she looked at Lin Chichi.
"There’s no need to thank me,"
Lin Chichi shook her head, noticing the bag in the little girl’s hands, she squatted down and smiled gently, "It was K who guided me here, you’re a good child, and K will watch over you."
The little girl lowered her head, glanced at her bag, observing the grass-woven amulet inside, and nodded lightly, "K will watch over the good people."
Lin Chichi reached out to smooth the little girl’s disheveled bangs, stood up, and said with a soft smile, "K will watch over the good people."
The little girl tilted her head, looking at Lin Chichi, "Your smile resembles that of a big brother I’ve met before."
Lin Chichi seemed puzzled.
"I met a big brother from Central Earth in the Newland City-State,"
The little girl spoke softly, "He, just like you, had a very gentle smile, and for some reason, I felt very close to him; he even traded my amulet for his kebab. Both of you are very gentle people."
At this moment, Lin Chichi suddenly realized whom the little girl was talking about. Her eyes slightly curved into crescents, laughing, "Yes, he is a very gentle person."
The little girl blinked her eyes.
She had also realized by now that the sister in front of her knew that brother.
At this moment, Lin Chichi seemed to have remembered something, took out her phone from her pocket, and sure enough, there was an incoming call flashing on the screen.
She quickly answered the call.
"Chichi, how are you? Is it over there?"
Yan Yue’s voice came through with a hint of urgency, "You’re not hurt, are you?"
Lin Chichi shook her head and smiled, "Yan Yue, don’t worry, I’m very strong. I’ve even captured two prisoners here, alive."
Yan Yue sighed and then continued, "Chichi, I have dispatched Senwen’s men to separate tasks, sending them to rescue people with the information you provided. I hope they can make it in time."
"Yan Yue, you’re amazing!"
Lin Chichi quickly said, then something occurred to her, and she asked with some confusion, "Yan Yue, why are you the one arranging things?"
"That’s the urgent matter I wanted to tell you about,"
Over the phone, Yan Yue sighed and spoke quickly, "Senwen has gone missing."
Lin Chichi froze for a moment, hesitating, "Missing? How could that be? Isn’t he a D-class Transcendent? Where did he go missing?"
"It’s very likely at the World Tree headquarters in Feklay, right in his office, but there are no traces left at the scene,"
Yan Yue sighed, "Chichi, we all agree that it’s very dangerous in Feklay right now. Minister He has ordered us to immediately form an investigation team to go to Feklay. We are currently gathering personnel and should arrive by tomorrow morning at the latest. Do you want to come back first?"
Hearing this, Lin Chichi was slightly startled, then she looked down at her palm and shook her head gently, "Yan Yue, I can’t go back, my mission here isn’t finished yet."
K’s favor still lingered on her.
And looking at the situation in this city, kidnapping and disappearances made her feel an unsettling familiarity.
Those who misuse the name of the Divine Beings are certainly hiding under some curtain in this city.
The local World Tree Organization in Feklay might not be trustworthy. If she left, this city would be in a vacuum until tomorrow morning, a time span enough for many things to occur.
She couldn’t just enjoy the power bestowed by Divine Being’s favor without taking on any responsibility.
That would not only betray K’s gaze but also fail to honor Hao Yi’s trust.
"Are you safe over there?"
Yan Yue hesitated upon hearing Lin Chichi’s response.
Lin Chichi spoke earnestly, "I was involved in the Bloody Sun incident."
Upon this reminder, Yan Yue seemed to have realized that Lin Chichi had done quite a lot during the last Bloody Sun incident; this girl was not as weak and fragile as her appearance might suggest.
Yan Yue sighed, then quickly said, "Luckily I asked Minister He beforehand what to do if you didn’t want to come back."
Lin Chichi was slightly stunned.
"Minister He said, if you don’t wish to come back,"
Yan Yue said with a smile over the phone, "then you are appointed as the temporary person in charge of Feklay. You will fully represent Minister He in dealing with local matters, and the access to World Tree’s authority in Feklay will be synchronized for you. Until the support troops arrive, you will be the highest-ranking official there. In theory, you can command all members of World Tree in Feklay."
Following that, the voice over the phone continued smilingly, "You can say I don’t believe in you, but Minister He really trusts you, his exact words were, ’If there’s anything you want to do, go ahead and do it, but be safe.’"
Lin Chichi chuckled goofily, then immediately said, "Mission will be accomplished!"
Yan Yue sent all the contact information for the members of World Tree in Feklay to Lin Chichi, and then hung up.
Afterward, Lin Chichi opened the chat app and sent a message to ’Teacher’ He Ao, [Thank you, Teacher.]
A quick reply came from the other side, [Don’t forget to practice your punches, I’ll check next time we meet.]
Inside a café in downtown Feklay
"So you think, this person, is the most likely to be ’chosen’?"
He Ao glanced at a pile of printed files spread in front of him, with his hand resting on one of the names, looking at the boy sitting across from him.
The boy nodded gently.
