Chapter 37: Chapter 37
Gwenn
“What are you going on about?” I asked Themis even though I had an idea of what she was referring to. I already suspected that me being the golden queen was going to be nerve wrecking but I never expect the whole world to be in danger.
Themis shook her head with a sad smile. “It is not yet time for you to know, you will know when the time is right.” She answered.
“I still cannot believe that Gwenn didn’t miss me.” Orel murmured as I couldn’t help but smile.
And as usual, I ran to Orel and hugged him with my legs wrapped around his waist. That was my typical greeting for him and Eli… the then Elison right from when we were young.
“I miss you, brother.” I said as I held on to Orel while tears ran down my face, I was tired of being alone and now, I was glad that I was not alone. That I was my family even if it will be a short time before they had to go back home.
“I miss you too, Gwenn.” He replied as he kissed my hair.
“It seems like I had arrived late.” Faye voice sounded from the door. I looked at her to see her, standing with a hand resting on her barely visible bump.
“Who is that?” Orel asked. “The maid to take us to our room?”
“No Orel. Things are not always that simple.” Themis answered as she hugged me again once more. “I am tempted to leave Orel here with Arius but I think it would be preferable if Orel holds Elison.”
Orel looked ta his wife with suspicion all over his face. “Why?”
“I cannot believe that he thinks that I am the maid.” Faye nose wrinkled in disgust as she walks closer to the throne, Arius glared at Faye but I let my head fall. I have been so strong for so long, all I wanted was to cry in Orel hands but I knew that if I mistakenly do that now, Orel was going to kill Arius. Or at least he would try to and I would rather prefer if Orel is not seen in Northshore as an enemy of the king.
I gave Elison to his father but I could resist my hand touching his smooth skin. My hand looked so big close to his face. I knew that within some years, Elison would be just as big as his father like all children are but I could not reconcile that image to what I was seeing now. Elison was so tiny.
“You ought to be the maid.” I responded to Faye whose jaw clench in angfer but she knew better than to reply my words. Not when she knows that I was itching to use my whip on her.
“Faye, get out.” Arius stated in a calm tone as Faye froze and looked at Arius in shock.
“Yama… but”
“Now!” Arius roared as Faye jumped, her skin took a red shade as she quickly ran out of the room not before a sob rang out.
“Isn’t that too harsh?” Orel asked.
“Not even close.” Themis replied.
I looked at Arius who was looking at me pleadingly and shook my head.
“You gave her that right already Arius, you don’t get to shout at your mistress and think that everything will be alright between us just because of that singular act, it doesn’t work that way.” I said softly.
“Mistress…” Orel said. “You are not supposed to take another woman.” He yelled at Arius who bowed his head.
“I know, I am sorry but…”
“There is nothing that he can do about it, she is pregnant with his child.” I completed as Orel’s mouth dropped open, when he started striding towards Arius, Elison squeals in delight and Orel’s body froze.
“It is too early for Elison to be seeing violence.” Themis answered as Orel’s jaw clenched.
“Gwenn, take us somewhere else before I lose control of anger because I keep seeing his face.” Orel said and I was glad to obey his words.
*************
“You can leave.” Orel said as he paced around the room, his hand gripping at his hair as he moved from one point to another, while me and Themis sat looking at each other.
“I can’t. I have duties and obligations…” I started only for Orel to shake his head.
“You don’t have anything of sort because you don’t owe them anything. He broke the bargain. Themis told me of her terms and Arius definitely broke them. Come home with us, your former position is waiting for you and you can be happy in Dar.”
“She can’t leave.” Themis said and when Orel looked at his wife, she shrugged. “She is already in too deep, there is nothing that she can do except continue on the path fate faced her. The world will not remain the same again.”
“Themis…” Orel started but Themis shook his head.
“Somethings I cannot tell you.”
“There is one of the king’s sisters, the only one whom I like, she seems like a scatterbrain but with another brand. I have a feeling that she is just like you.” I tell Themis who nodded.
“I will see her this evening when we eat the evening meal, right?” Themis said as I winced. I didn’t want them around Arius people who poisonous.
“Maybe, it would be better if she comes visit, she is always fond of doing that.” I replied and Orel exchanged a look with Themis.
“We will be eating with others today correct?” Orel asked and when I didn’t reply, he raised an eyebrow at me while folding his arms, making me feel like a naughty child while he stared down at me.
“You don’t like eating with Strangers before, it won’t be weird if we eat alone.” I offered already knowing the answer before Orel said anything.
“No, we are eating with your new people, we will watch as they interact with each other and you, it is the least we can do after leaving you here.”
“But I am...” I started and when He just raised an eyebrow at me, I knew that I better keep my mouth shut before Orel’s imagination goes into overdrive.
“I will leave you two to settle into your room.” I said instead as I stood up and went to my room which was the room next door. I couldn’t bear to keep them far from me. I was acting clingy to them but then again. They reminded me of the time when I was happy and carefree. I miss that period.
When I got to my room, that was when I let the tears go. I was so much in the search for Arius being mine, of me being happy that Arius would have gotten my shields down and hurt me. The truth always eventually comes out. I was glad that Themis brought about the truth of having children because I now know that Arius would never have told me.
I was done. With all things Arius. I was fed up and I was just done.
