Chapter 23: Chapter 23

Triffany came home at noon, she had gone for the final interview today but she had not passed, this was something new for her and she have a lot to learn about the job. She had been disqualified.

She removed her shoe and coat, why had she been so excited, thinking she got this one good. Carlos was right, nothing good came out of this.

She had shopped for a new outfit, but now everything has gone to waste. She lay down on the couch and tears rolled down her cheek. She had been crying all this while, she had been so happy when she got the message on her email.

She heard her phone ringing, she sat up to take the call. She sniffled and picked the call. “Hello, Allison.” She tried to keep her emotion in check but her voice came out hoarse.

“Triffany are you okay?” Allison asked, hearing Tiffany's hoarse voice made her worried.

“No Allison, I’m not okay.” Triffany sobs, her tears flowing down uncontrollable.”My life suck, it was never meant to be perfect.” Her voice was chocked

“What’s wrong? You got a job now, you should be happy.” Allison was aware of the joy Triffany had yesterday when she told her about the job, hearing her say her life suck made her surprised.

“I’m not, I failed the final interview, I can’t fit it, I was disqualified.” Triffany exhaled sharply, her knees pulled up, she buried her face between her legs.

“That’s not true Triffany, the Triffany I know doesn’t give up. Triffany you got this, you do.” Allison tries to motivate her.

Triffany shakes her head, it was hard to believe it, she was always disqualified and had never passed any interview, to her she was never going to fit in, she had given up on it all. “Allison I’m sorry, but this time I don’t.”

She hung up and buried her face on her pillow crying, everything was not going as she planned, she was married to someone who doesn’t love her and she can’t even get a job for herself. Her life suck.

Carlos Zack had come back home early after his meetings. He entered his room, surprised to see Triffany home, it was barely four o’clock in the afternoon and she had said she was starting her first day today.

He put down his briefcase and took off his tie, he turned to look at her when he heard little sobs. She must be crying and it only meant one thing.

He smirked and take off his coat. “my guess was right. It’s not new though. I already knew you were no good, jobs don’t suit you, and you know why? That’s because you’re not worth any job.

Triffany lifts her eyes to look at him. “I get it, so stop. I have no skills, nothing good could come out of my low IQ.” She burst into tears. “Stop tormenting me!” She shouted.

Her tears rolled down her cheek, she looked at the man that was supposed to be her backbone, the man she called her husband, who would have been pet talking her not to give up, but instead, he was making fun of her situation.

She sniffled. “You are the CEO of your company, so you have no idea how much it hurts to not find a job, even after being a graduate.”

She closed her eyes and open them again, they were filled with angry flames of furry. “if you have even tried writing an application and submitting it to as many companies as you can just to get a congratulating message, you will know how happy it feels like to get one.”

She wipes the tears away from her cheek but more keeps rolling down. “And if you get rejected after getting one because you know nothing about it, then you should know how sad that is.” She furrowed her brow. “You rich people have no idea!”

Carlos who had been watching her silently all this while scoffed. “You want pity? Huh! I can give you a job without an interview at my company,” he said sarcastically. “But I don’t employ people with poor brains like yours. So it's hard.” He scratched his head. “I’m sorry but I can’t just help you.”

Triffany know he was being sarcastic right now, he was mocking her. She stood up, her tears have already dried up at this time. “Why exactly is my life like this.” She glared at him. “I don’t need any job in your company, I can’t work for someone like you, no matter what!” She smirked.

She picked up a tissue and wiped the remaining tears in her eyes. “Who would have thought that a person like you could be such a JERK!” She stretched the last word to make it clear to him.

“What!” Carlos furrowed his brow. “You just called me what?”

Triffany looked at him, she was not scared of him, she was not going to let herself be intimidated by this man. “You heard me so well.”

Her eyes were cold like his and they were both glaring at each other. “I wonder if I’m the only one who knows about that, or if there are others who are also aware.”

Her phone rang and she looked away from the angry looking Carlos. “Hello.”

“Hello, Triffany Joey.”

“Yes.”

“This is the manager of Chixobest company, you have been given another chance, in five days you will be interviewed again, use that opportunity to improve.”

Triffany smiled broadly. “Thank you so much, thank you so much. I will do my best this time.” She said happily.

“You should.” With that, the call was disconnected.

“Yes!” Triffany was too happy to keep it to herself. She looked over at Carlos. “I think my life doesn’t suck much.” She smiled and left the room.

“She is a crazy lady.’ Carlos muttered. He picked up his towel and walked over to the bathroom for a shower.

Gabby sat down on a beach drinking wine with the hookup man across the table with her. “So pretty, what do you do for a living?” He asked Gabby.

“Nothing.’ Gabby said simply.

he looked up at her, his eyes were gently but she looked surprised. “But why?”

“I don’t have to.” Gabby leans close to the table to look at his blue eyes. “I have all I need, and guess what I do?” Tommy looked at her, waiting for her to continue.

Gabby held the tip of her glass and gently shakes it, her eyes on the handsome man in her front. “I wake up every morning, shower, eat, then hang out with different men. If I don’t love you I break up with you instantly, and if you are a boring person, I don’t last an hour with you.”

She leans back on her chair. “Gosh! I love the clubbing and to be honest with you, I was surprised you wanted to meet me up by this time.”

He raises his brow, looking at her. “What is wrong with the time?”

“It’s too early.” She looked around. “And it’s boring here.”

He leans back to look at the lady he has been drinking with, his hand on his lips. “So why are you still hanging out with me?”

“IT’s because you are handsome.” She said honestly. He was six feet tall, has dark curly hair, blue eyes and fair skin. Just the type of man she likes.

He laughed. “You are kidding right?’

“No! I rarely compliment guys, so count yourself special.’ Gabby sips her gently.

He chuckled. “You are a funny lady.”

“Please.” Gabby rolled her eyes, she knows she was anything but funny. “Do you swim?” she asked, this sitting down was getting boring.

“Yes am good at that.”

“You should have said that earlier, rather than sitting here and watching those wave, why don’t we swim and make things fun?” She winked at him.

“Love that idea.” They both stand up. Gabby took off her dress and underneath she was wearing a bikini. The man who had to introduce himself as Tommy took off his top, exposing his well built muscular chest.

Gabby admired his body, he kicked off his trouser, wearing his briefs. He enters the water, after swimming for a while, he lifts his face.

Gabby winked at him. She joined him in the water, it was chill and refreshing, Gabby love swimming and this was fun for her. “Now this is what I’m talking about.”

Tommy looked at her and they both chuckled, he swims close to Gabby, she was still smiling. “You are cool.” He said staring at her.

“I should say, it’s too early to say that words. I get a lot of crazy shits in my head.” She smiled and dip her head into the water.

Tommy smiled, she was one hell of a funny girl. He joined her in the water again and they continue swimming. Gabby closed her eyes, instead of being at a noise club party, swimming wasn’t a bad idea.

Triffany called on the phone, Nick reluctantly picked up. “You’re always interrupting my game.” He said sharply.

Triffany rolled her eyes. “Hey Nick, I need your help.” Triffany was not ready to argue with him.

“In what? Allison told me you got a job, congratulation. Now can I get back to my game?”

“Stop being such a kid.” Triffany scolded. “I could lose that job.” She leans her head on the stairway.

Nick breathe sharply, he now understands the seriousness in her voice. “Tell me about it.”

“I messed up on the final interview, but I have just been given a second chance.” She said softly. Carlos came out of the room and head downstairs. “I need to learn more about it."

“I’m I permitted to laugh?” Nick tries to suppress his chuckle.

Triffany furrowed her brow. “You dare not!” Right now she needed help, not mockery.

“Okay, now where do I come in?” Nick asked her, the smile on his face now gone.

“I need a good teacher that could help me these five days before I go for the interview.

“I’m on it.’ Nick immediately searched the internet. “Triffany there is a top genius that knows this best, but they won’t have the time to teach you, whereas you don’t have enough cash to pay them.”

“That’s it.” She pout.

Nick checked the internet again and saw something. “Hey, Triffany I got something.”

“What is it?” Triffany said impatiently.

“Your husband.”

Triffany turned her eyes to look at Carlos whose eyes were on his tablet. “You’re not serious.”

“I’m damn serious, he’s good at almost everything,” Nick told her, his eyes on the Profile of Carlos Zack. Triffany scoffed. “He’s a genius. Ask him for help.” Nick told her.

“I can’t do that.” Triffany looked out of the window again.

“Then you’re bound to fail this, you should let go of your pride for once.”

Triffany rolled her eyes. "You should have heard what he said to me, I can’t ask him for anything. He hates me too, so I would just fail this.”

Nick exhaled softly, he had done his part. “Ask first, problems solved. Triffany I got to go back on my game now. You have a solution right next to you, don’t make things complicated for yourself. Bye.” He ended the call.

Triffany frowned, she was the one who called him and now he hung up first. She breathes out and looked at Carlos who was sipping his wine.

She exhaled softly before taking a bold step over to where Carlos was sitting, she reached for his glass and gulp half of his wine. “What do you think you’re doing?” He looked at her with a furrowed brow.

Triffany wipes her lips with the back of her hands. “I drank wine.”

Carlos scoffed. “My wine.” Triffany ignored him, she sits close to him on the sofa. “What’s your problem?” He said coldly. “Stay out of my way. “ Triffany faced him and the distance between them was so close. “Gosh! Please, now.”

“No,” Triffany told him stubbornly, he moved to create some space between them but she mover closer.

Carlos frowned. “You hate me, I hate you, no need for contact. So move.” He ordered.

“I hate you, you hate me, we’re even. So you shouldn’t feel anything when I’m this close to you.” She smirked.

“What exactly came over you, a few minutes ago, you were like, I’m a jerk, now what?” He raised his brow.

“I’m sorry for calling you a jerk.” She apologizes and Carlos looked at her with surprise.

He smirked. “If you want a favour from me then you should already know that my answer is no.” He got up from the chair and Triffany followed him.

“Please, hear me out first.”

“No.” Carlos went outside the house and Triffany followed him.

“This once.” She begs.

“No.” “He walked around the pool

“Just one favour.” She looked at the pool afraid to go closer but she had no choice but to go after him.

“Never, I don’t want anything to do with helping you, because once I do, I’m going to do lot more favours for you.”

“Please this is about life and death.” Triffany pout and Carlos faced her, he studied her face for a while like he was deciding.

“No.” He turned to leave the poolside but mistakenly pushed Triffany into the pool.

She struggled in the water since she can’t swim. Carlos was not aware until she screamed as she rises from the water. “Help!” She sank in again and Carlos sense the danger, he dives into the pool and pulled her out.

Triffany was crying with her eyes closed, holding his arms. “I’m going to die, I’m going to die.” She stutter.

“You’re okay.” Carlos hugged her close to his chest, she was still trembling and repeating her words. “Open your eyes, you’re fine now. We are out of the pool.”

Triffany opened her eyes gently, she lifts her eyes to see Carlos laughing. She hits his shoulder. “What’s funny?’ She asked with a furrowed brow.

He got up and reach for a towel. “You’re scared of a pool.” He mocked. “Here.” He hands her a towel and she wrapped it around herself. “You can’t swim.” He sits close to her with a towel, he dried her hair gently.

“Not everyone can swim, you know.” She pushed him seeing he was still laughing at her. “Stop laughing, it’s your fault I fell into that pool.” She frowned.

Carlos looked at her. “There are many things you can’t do. Tell me so that I won’t be scared that I killed someone cause of her incapability.”

Triffany gave him a hard glare and stand up. “You’re so annoying.” She blurts out and Carlos continues laughing while they head to their room to change. “I will change first.” She told him coldly.

“You’re free cause you to look like a rain-soaked puppy.” Triffany scoffed and went into the bathroom, that man knows how to get on her nerves.

After changing Carlos did the same and now they were sitting down holding a glass of warm coffee. “Now you should listen to me.” She looked up at him.

Carlos looked at her, waiting for her to continue. “ I got a second chance to redo the interview.”

Carlos rolled his eyes. "I told you before to just quit. You won’t make it.”

“Can you hear me out and stop disbelieving.” Triffany arched her brow.

“Okay. I’m all ears." He sips his coffee gently.

“Help me for five days please.”

Carlos scoffed. “Help be your tutor? You are not serious.”

‘I am.” She looked at him, it takes all she got to ask him for this favour. “I know you are good in that area, you’re a genius. Please help me, my career depends on it.” She blinks.

Carlos leans close to the coffee table, his looked at her with a serious expression, the look he has whenever he was talking business. “You don’t know anything about publishing, yet you applied as a publisher in a publishing company.”

He shakes his head and scoffed. “Unbelievable! now I understand how your brain works.” He stands up and looked down at her. “I’m done listening to you. My no, remains no.”

“Why can’t you help me/” Triffany asked, she don’t understand his point, she had stoop this low to beg him, yet he was acting so uptight.

“it’s because it is impossible.” He runs his hands through his hair.

“I can make it possible.” She looked at him with her pleading eyes. “Please.”

Carlos shut his eyes and exhaled sharply. He looked at her contemplating. “If you don’t improve in two days then, I’m giving up.”

“Is that a yes?” She asked with smiles.

Carlos put his hands in his pocket. “Something like that.”

Triffany jumped up from her chair and gave him a big hug happily. “Thank you.”

Carlos's eyes were wide in shock at the hug she gave him, it was like that day she kissed him when she was drunk at the VIP restaurant. “Do you have any idea what you’re doing now?” He asked her.

Triffany realize she was hugging him. She pulled away and they looked at each other awkwardly. “I was overjoyed.” She touched her hair. “I didn’t mean to do that.” She muttered.

Carlos looked at her and scoffed. “Next time you’re overjoyed, hug that pillar.” He pointed at a pillar next to them. “Don’t hug me. Okay?” He turned around, he walked upstairs into his room.

Upstairs on the balcony, Carlos space around, to him she was a crazy lady, only a yes from him and she hugged him. He walked over to the window and smiled as an idea came to his mind.
