Chapter 43: Chapter 43

: MY WAY OR THE HIGH WAY

The cold air gushed into their faces as Bree, Justin and Chris rushed out of the car, that Dwayne had parked right in front of the hospital.

They barely pain any attention to the  paparazzi that had flocked the entrance as they approached.

Chris however, found himself wondering how they found out Robin was at this exact hospital.

Troy's huge body guided them into the hospital. Bree broke out into a run as she reached the reception, "My husband, uhm-my " she was out of breath and nervous. Failing to shape the right words.

"Where is my father?" Chris asked the nurse, immediately taking charge.

"what his name?" The blue eyed nurse asked. She looked a little over 30.

"Robin Ryder, "

The nurse looked at the family, her eyes widening in realisation when she finally recognised them.

"okay, you're the Ryder's -uhm let me call Dr Saint," she said, reaching out to the phone.

The family watched her as she dialed the phone waiting anxiously.

"No need to call Jessica, I'm already here," a doctor said comming up behind them.

"Doctor Saint?" Justin asked as he greeted them.

"at your service, " Doctor saint replied, clipping the blue felt pen back into his breast pocket.

"Where is my husband?" Bree asked, a shake in her voice as she looked up at him in anticipation.

"I urge you all to be very calm. Mr Ryder is in good hands and doing very well," he assured them.

Bre breathed out a sigh of relief along with with the boys when they heard this.

"What happened? Did he pass out?" Justin asked, as they followed the Doctor down the halls.

"What happened to him?" Bree repeated.

Doctor Saint glanced at the family as they paused before a door, "well, he had a small heart attack which caused him to faint on the stage but right now he is awake talking and laughing," he said showing them into the room.

"Hello family," Robin called out to them.

Bree sighed, pressing a hand over her heart in relief, looking down at her husband who laid beside Bob laughing and joking.

"You scared me so much!" Bree said walking toward him and giving him a big hug.

"aaah it was nothing,"Robin remarked.

The grinned shaking their heads.

Justin felt relieved that his father was okay but at the same time he felt guilty.

They stood by his bed side and Bree sat by him holding his hand.

"well, I'll leave the family to themselves," Bob said standing up, " I'll go and check on the crew, give them the update, see you later brother," he said with a curt grin, before walking out the door.

Robin watched Bob walk out with a grain on his face.

"So doctor what really happened to him?" Bree asked. she seemed to be still worried.

"I told you I'm fine," Robin answered with a soft sigh.

Dr Saint grinned, "it was just a small heart attack, not even lethal. Probably from too much stress and over working. Does he work too much?" he asked

"you won't believe us if we told you," Chris replied, with a chuckle.

"And he also has a weak heart, " Doctor Saint added.

"a weak heart?" Bree exclaimed, glancing up at the Doctor.

"it means for the next few days he should put a break on work and avoid any thing that could increase his stress levels, "

"stress levels?"

"Yes, things like, over working, drinking, smoking or even any bad news."

Justin could feel Brees sly gaze on him, "even bad news could trigger him?" she repeated, a certain chill in her tone causing Justin's face to fall.

"Yes ma'am, " Doctor Saint replied, pitting his hands in his coat pockets.

"So your saying if we do all that, " Cheis began, "he will be back to normal?"

Doctor Saint nodded.

"We would just want to keep him over night, " he continued, "nothing serious, just to double check, then he can go back home tomorrow."

"Are you sure he is okay Doctor?" Bree asked rubbing Robins arm.

"Positive! He has a few more decades in him, he isn't that old," the Doctor teased.

"I could be your grandfather," Robin joked, with a slight chuckle.

"of course, especially with that white hair comming in, " Doctor Saint replied with the same casual grin.

"White hair is in fashion these days."

The Doctor laughed along with the rest of them.

Chris received a phone call, "Its Beats, " he announced glancing at the family, "he probably heard the news, I'll be back," Chris said walking out.

"well, I'll leave you now," the Doctor followed as Bree nodded.

"I wish I saw the look on peoples faces when I fainted on stage, I always wondered how it would be like, " Robin mattered as he started at the space before him.

"you fainted on stage!" Bree asked shocked.

"and it was epic, " Robin replied, a large grin on his fave.

"No wonder the press knows," Bree concluded.

Robin laughed looking up at both Bree and Justin, "I was only in the hospital for an hour before my whole family came to vist me," he began smiling, "if this happened five years ago, I would have had no one, probably died alone. Maybe Bob would hang in. what more could I wish for?" He asked with his famous smile plastered on his face.

Justin lowered his gaze at these words, the guilt feeding on him mercilessly.

Robin smiled, " I love you more than anything else beautiful," he said to Bree squeezing her hand tightly.

Bree looked up at Justin slyly and caught him watching them. She leaned in and kissed Robin.

Was that to make me jealous? Justin thought. He was digusted.

"Then don't scare me like that any more," Bree replied.

"Cross my heart," he replied, with a deep smile, his eyes lingering over Justin as it faded.

"You've been quiet," he said, a soft frown coming as he realised him.

Justin kept looking at nothing.

"Justin?" Robin asked.

Justin suddenly came to, realizing he was on demand, "what?" he asked startled.

Robin laughed, "I'm the one in a hospital bed but you're the one that looks sick. look at you, you look pale as death!" Robin joked.

justin cracked a smile, at this shaking his head.

"Are you okay son? you look like something's bothering you, " Robin continued, his eyebrows furrowing.

Justin unfolded his arms and slipped them into his pockets, he could sense them tingle and shake.

Robin looked at him more intently, "son are you okay?" he repeated, a more concerned tone in his voice.

Bree cleared her throat immediately, recapturing Robins attention, "it's just, well I have something to tell you," she began.

Justin's heart stopped for a wild second, his eyes dead rested on her, a look of horror echoing in his gaze.

"Listen, I feel this is the best time to tell you this,  despite the Doctors warnings," she said looking up at Justin.

What was she doing? Justin thought to himself.

He looked at her as she held onto Robins hand tightly.

Robin felt anxious and awkward sensing something was dubiously wrong.

Justin looked at the heart monitor above. the numbers where slowing increasing as Robin became more anxious.

"What do you want to tell me?" he asked slowly, his smile fading, looking between the two of them.

"Justin, do you want to tell him? or do you want it my way?" Bree asked smiling sweetly still squeezing Robins arm.

Robin had a weak heart, if he told his father that the people he loved most betrayed him, he would surely die.

Justin forced a smile on his face, "Your way, I think your way is better," he said.

"are you sure? I mean it might be better coming from you," Bree asked.

Justin nodded slowly, "Please" he cleared his throat glancing at his father, forcing a smile, " just tell him."

"Alright" she hummed, "but just remember, A great request requires a great sacrifice," she said.

Justin froze.

Chad had said the exact same words before. He stared at Bree in confusion.

Robin looked at them still alarmed sensing the tension.

"what is it you want to say?" he asked Bree.

She smiled as he gripped her tightly,

"relax, Robbie" she hummed, a gentle smile resting on her features, "it's just we planned a surprise party for you at home, and invited everyone."

Robin breathed out deeply, "oh you got me! I thought something bad had happened,"he said, letting out a dry chuckle as he rested his head back.

"something bad?" Bree repeated glancing at Justin, " why would you think that?"

Justin checked the heart monitor. The numbers where decreasing back to how it had been.

"A surprise party?" Robin echoed, lost in wonder.

"But why? It isn't even my birthday, " he asked glancing at the both of them.

Bree paused and Justin took a deplep breath in, feeling his hands shake a little more, as he took a deep breath out.

"Well, I shouldn't say this infront of our son, but you know you and I have been behaving .." She trailed off, "You Know and we get mad and so I just wanted to start from scratch and invite some friends over to lighten the mood and tell you I'm sorry, and I'll try to be a better person, plus, I know how you love having your friends over."

Robin chuckled, "I should be the one apologizing, I'm the sorry one, I'm going to try a lot harder," he said watching her closely with loving eyes.

She smiled, "according to the Doctor you'll will have a lot of time on your hands for that, it's a no work month," she replied smiling.

Robin lay backdown, "no, it will be a family month," he said.

Chris walked back into the room,  "Beats and George wanted to come see you but I said it's better they stay where they are because if the paparazzi and press outside, but they did send there get well pronto wishes," Chris said sitting on the edge of the bed

Robin laughed "I already am."

They all take for a few minutes till Justin and Chris where told to go home while Bree stayed behind with Robin.

Jennifer (their lawyer) addressed the press outside as the boys slipped back into the hammer they had arrived in.

They had some supper and relaxed as they went off to bed, each dealing with their own demons.
