FOURTEEN- WITH MUM

Ayo and I walked back home, talking about random things. Annette had her driver picking her up from school and Sophie was already a boarder while sola too had gone with the school bus.

I hated taking the school bus so instead I usually ordered an uber or I just walked back home since mum hardly picked me up from school.

I arrived at home, mum's blue Toyota venza was packed in front of the house and I definitely knew she was going to be home.opening the door, the warm smell of jollof rice and chicken wafted through my nostrils.

I smiled, walking towards the kitchen to see mum looking so busy with the food preparation

" good afternoon mum " I greeted. Going over to give her a back hug.she smiled at me

" how was school? "

I shrugged " as usual, school is fine "

" nothing spectacular huh?" She asked and I nod

" exactly "

" tell me about it " she says.

I go over to the kitchen sink, pouring a bit of mama lemon dishwasher liquid into my hands, while rubbing my palms together before I rinsed it off

" though today was a bit different. At least principal said I and some people are going to go to Melviks High for some kind of event.." I said

" Melviks high huh? Isn't that where your big aunt attended her school ?" She asked and I nod in agreement

"Exactly "

" so what and what are you and your classmates going to do there ?" She asked

" it's some type of a presentation. I and one guy were chosen to work on it before that day..so ...." i trailed off and she nodded her head in understanding of what I was saying

" so at least school isn't all boring " she said and I scoffed

" maybe ". I watched her add a little more water to the rice and turn the chicken sideways to fry, then she brought out a piece.

I put my hand in the strainer in attempt to take one. She looked up almost immediately and uses the frying spoon to shove my handa away

" get out and go and have your bath before you hatch your plan " she says, eyeing me.

I laughed lightly " mum how was work ?"

" same old story..it was fine " she replied shrugging as if meaning to say more but let the words linger in her mouth

" Tell me more " I probed and she stares at me like I've suddenly grown two heads

" what do you want to hear ?"

" anything at all..I don't know.." i said shrugging.then added with a small smirk

" tell me about the men asking you out and such " I say and that minute she suddenly became red as she laughed

" Oya time is up..get to your room and change "

I titled my head over to one side, quite observing her.honestly I was so suprised that I was actually talking with her cause some weeks ago after I mentioned about Fred, she seemed not to talk much to me.infact, to everyone.but today, she looked so at ease.turning redder than tomatoes just because I asked her if there were people asking her out.

Mum was in her late thirties and anyone who didn't know her that much would think she was the mother of one because of her body shape. She really had a drop dead gorgeous body even though she had three children yet she still had maintained her shape.

Most people said i and kelechi looked like my mum. I don't know about Uju though

" yunno, I don't know about the rest but I wouldn't even mind if you got someone in your life " I blurted out and she turns to scrutinize me

" why did you say that?" She asked carefully

" why won't ? You don't have much commitments now apart from three grown children and your work.besides, aren't you getting bored with work ?" I said more like a passive statement

" but I don't get bored with having my children around ?" She says and I smiled

" thankfully.." I replied

We didn't say anything for sometime. I just helped her fry some more chicken while she brought down the pot feom the fire

" do you...wish to have..a dad ?" She asked out of the blue

" honestly i don't even know...but sometimes I wonder what it will be like " I say

She sighed not saying anything else. I turned to her "do you miss dad?"I asked quite observing the drained look on her face

"..I..do. I mean...why won't I huh? "She asked and i shrugged

" well..." i drawled the words " Mrs Okoye and her kids must be lucky her husband came looking for them " I said

" who is mrs okoye? "

" you remember the Fred guy that once met me on the road ?""I asked and she gives me a plain look

" well..." she trailed off

" yep.he said his wife's name was Mrs Anna okoye and he had just two children...I actually felt sorry that I couldn't help him. He even said I looked like his wife and he wishes to see me again....." I rattled

" Meera...meera stop there " she suddenly calls making me a bit startled

" is there a problem ?"

She heaved a deep breath " no..but can you just not see this man again.."

" I never said I gave him an answer " I said and she sighs

" good...now..leave the chicken, I'll take it from here while you go freshen up " she says looking quite nervous.

I shook my head at her..why was she so agitated anytime she heard about Mr Fred..? Well, even though I told mum that I was never going to see him, I hoped that oneday at least we'd bump into each other

Later that night, I switched on my data just to be met by tons of messages from both instagram and mainly whatsapp.

11,0498 messages from chats and calls.I groaned at the messages

Some where from some group chats while others where from some random people I didn't want to talk to.

I turned off my reads and changed my dp to a picture of girly anime, before opening my messages and since I turned off my read it was easier to just read the messages and not leave a reply

I opened the group chat of Annette, Sophie, Sola and I which we called Girls GG Geng

Tons of messages flooded in.both the one those girls actually gossiped about me like they forgot I was also in that group chat.I laughed at some as I read the messages. My phone beeped.signifying that I had a new message

I smiled switching off my data as I picked up my pen and book to see if i could actually read something before i sleep.i found my thoughts drifting off..i had alot to think off ..from school to mum and well,,

I had started feeling sleepy already.tomorrow was Sunday so I thought it better to catch some sleep already before my thoughts lead me to a far end.
