Chapter 44: Chapter 44
I was chained and bound to the bed when I regained consciousness. Not only that, but I was even blind folded. Doctor Kusher really knows how to use my limitations to his advantage. He knows that I have trouble using my magic if I can’t see.
Since I have no sense of time here because there’s no window and I am usually blindfolded or shrouded in darkness. My only update on the outside world is Julie. She’s usually the one who would give me updates, as she’s the only one that’s assigned to feed me during meals. According to her, Tyrelle is already aware of my disappearance and has his whole pack looking for me. According to her, their first suspect is Al and his pack, which will undoubtedly lead to a pack war soon.
I wanted to ask her about my parents, but I did not want to talk to her because I was angry at her betrayal.
Hell, I literally can’t even look at her because I am blindfolded!
“Gabriella, you can’t ignore me forever.” She says. Her voice is low, like she has regrets. “Please believe me when I say that I did not think that it would come to this.”
I was silently chewing my food while I listened to her ramble about how sorry she was. Julie is that one who is feeding me because my hands are chained after all.
I believe it is the second day today, at least based on my eating schedule.
I heard her sigh. “Fine. I’ll go. I’m really sorry-”
“If you’re really sorry, you could at least tell me how long you all plan on keeping me looked up here.” I finally decided to break my silence and get some answers. Tomorrow will be my third day being held in captivity. I don’t think my anxiety would keep me asleep the entire night.
As soon as Julie sat down next to me once more, I could just picture her pausing and hearing a skid on the floor from the chair next to me. “That’s…kind of a question that I can’t give you an exact answer on. They say that until the hybrid is dead. I can assure you that you’ll be safe, though, so don’t worry.”
I bit my lower lip so hard that it started to go numb. “Julie, I am angry with Al, but that does not mean that I want him dead!” I clench my hands at my side to stop them from shaking in anger. “Why does everyone want him dead?!”
Despite how Al made me look like a fool, I felt sorry for him. Does this always happen to him? Is this why he is acting the way that he is? From what I have gathered, the people who kidnapped and are assisting the witches are also from his pack. He’s not even safe in his own place.
Is being a hybrid such a big deal?
“Tell me the truth, Julie. What makes Al so important that everyone seems to want to kill him? What’s the purpose of his pack for wanting to kill him?”
The door burst open and I could hear another person entering. “It seems like the little lady is starting to be interested. I’m so sorry, it seems like we have not properly introduced ourselves. My name is Deindra and I am the beta of the Beaumont pack.”
“The beta,” I mumbled. Spending time with the Gridon pack made me learn a thing or two about the hierarchical chain of the wolves. “If you’re the beta, why are you trying to kill the alpha who you are supposed to be loyal to?”
“Loyal to that monster?” I heard Deindra scowl in disgust. “Do you even know how old guys is? How long he’s been wandering the lands for a god awful time? You don’t even know, do you? Three hundred and fifteen years!” He yelled. “That monster has been the alpha of the pack for centuries. Do you know what his parents did? They made a deal with the devil, which is why their family is cursed and turned him into a hybrid. The other half being one of our most dangerous enemies a long time ago.”
I smirked and started to laugh. Somehow, I kind of miss my killer smile because it would no doubt chase my captors away in an instant. “You said it yourself, didn’t you? He lived for centuries. What makes you think that you could kill him now?” It’s a shame that I could not see his face right now to see his reaction.
“That’s because we now have something that the pack never had all those years. You.”
“Me?”
“There’s a prophecy foretelling that only a witch with magic like you could break the curse and lay him to rest.”
“What makes you think that I’d help you or be willing enough to kill Al?” I said it before. I hate Al, but there’s not enough reason for me to want to kill him. This guy must be delusional enough to think that I’d want to help them.
I don’t know what I should feel when I start to hear Deindra laugh. “But you won’t have a choice.” I can just imagine him grinning just by hearing the tone in his voice. I flinched when I felt his breath close to my ear. “Because I will make you choose. It would be either him or the young Alpha of the Gridon pack.” I felt like I was frozen on the spot while I started to feel the weight of his words in my chest. I could hear the amusement in his voice when he started to speak again. “By the end of the day, it will be your choice which of the two is more important to you.”
“That’s enough, wolf!” I heard a chair falling in the background. Julie must have risen to her feet when she yelled at Deindra. “Get out of here. You’re not even supposed to enter when she’s eating!”
“No, it’s fine. I am done eating.” I try not to make my voice crack. For the first time in my life, I felt grateful that I had my blindfolds on because it helped me suppress my angry tears. “Can you two just leave?” I was so frustrated that I almost said it in a whisper.
Julie never said anything while Deindra laughed while I heard their footsteps heading for the door. I almost could not handle my breakdown. An alarm went off, which signaled me that I was now allowed to remove my blindfolds.
The lights were already turned off, leaving me in the pitch black darkness of my room.

I woke up after a few hours. I have been contemplating this decision before, but I was afraid. Afraid that my plan would fail and I would get caught.
Little to Doctor Kusher’s knowledge, the first night that I was blindfolded and swallowed by complete darkness as I slept, I figured out a way to procure a light of my own. A fire would signal an alarm, so I created a magic ball of light that floats in the air without conducting heat or smoke.
With my magic, I know that I can get myself out of this situation. I had a plan in mind, but I just didn’t have the right motivation.
The magic lights that I created floated in the air when I got out of bed. I was no longer in my pajamas because they gave me spare clothes to change and a few minutes to bathe everyday - jeans and a baggy shirt.
The chains that bound me started to unlock before I headed for the door. The glowing light followed me as I moved. Once I unlocked the door, I peeked outside to check if anyone was there. Thankfully, there was no one.
I started to walk barefooted around the room, looking for the exit.
This is strange. Why does the place seem empty for some reason? If they are keeping a prisoner, shouldn’t they be more vigilant and have guards around?
My question was answered once I got out and looked up at the sky. I could feel my heart sinking when I saw that it was a full moon.
Shit. This was one situation that I did not consider. Who could blame me when I have no window in my prisoner room? This is just bad luck and a little miscalculation on my part.
I thought about going back, but I know that if I delay staying here for even another day, there’s a chance that they will find out that I tried to escape. And even if they don’t, who knows how much time I have left before they start their plan to kill Al?
It has to be now. I have to escape tonight.
As soon as I heard a howl in the distance, I began running in the opposite direction from it.
I was scared. My feet are bare as I run. I don’t even know where I was going, let alone where I am. All I know is that I need to get as far away from this place as soon as possible.
I heard a howl in the distance and immediately feared it was nearby. My head turned at the exact same time as when I saw a wolf in the distance and met its gaze. It lifted its head to howl, and I knew at that certain moment that they figured out that I had escaped.
