Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Al was still on edge for the entire day, and if Tyrelle and I have not been keeping tabs on him, I was afraid that he might have wandered off to kill Julie. And speaking of my long-time lunchmate, Tyrelle told me something disturbing about her. That Julie is a witch.

At this point, it’s not like it’s that hard to believe. If Al and Tyrelle exist then why can’t there be a witch? But it now brings me to wonder what kind of other supernatural creatures are out there?

And what is up with this town being run by wolves?

I couldn’t quite understand the situation, but I chose to push the thoughts aside and decided to focus on the task at hand: to finish up my apology letter so I could leave detention.

But as hard as I try, it was still difficult because I have no clue what I am supposed to apologize for.

I looked to either of my sides to check the progress of the other two. Tyrelle seemed so focus and I saw that his hands were furiously scribbling down on his piece of paper. But when I looked at the length of his words, I was debating whether he was writing an apology letter or a novel.

Tyrelle noticed me looking and made a gesture like he was asking me if I wanted to copy his work. Very slowly, I shook my head and decided to check on the other one. Al, unlike Tyrelle, was pretty laid back. He was leaning back with his elbows resting on the back of his chair. He was looking at the paper in front of him while gliding his pen back and forth in a gliding manner. Suddenly, he caught me trying to take a peek at what he was drawing. He grinned widely and showed me a portrait of me that he drew.

Wow. What a talent. It was actually pretty good. All the strokes were finely emphasized and-

I shook my head when I was started to get distracted and glared at him.

“You’re supposed to write an apology letter!” I hissed at him.

Al’s smile faded and was replaced with a pout. “I don’t see you writing either. You’re just staring at your blank paper, Gabbie bear.” He pointed out.

“Stop calling me that,” I said with a deep sigh and turned back to my paper. “I’m working on it. I am just trying to find the right words to write.” I grumbled. My pen has barely touched my paper when Tyrelle suddenly got up from his seat and handed his work to the supervisor assigned to us.

He began to scan Tyrelle’s paper as if he was checking if it was right. “Very well, Mr. Gridon. You can leave.”

“Do you mind if I stay here for a bit and wait for, Miss Bryce?” He asked.

The supervisor glance at him from his laptop before shrugging his shoulders. “Suit yourself.” He says and went back to whatever he was watching.

When Tyrelle settled back on his seat, I looked at him. “You could head out first, you know?”

“Yeah.” Al agreed with a nod of his head. “You don’t have to worry about my own woman.”

Tyrelle shook his head. “I made a promise to you, Gabriella.” He said before looking at Al to address him. “And as for you, you should be working on your letter instead of doodling.”

Al scoffed. “They should be writing ME a letter of an apology because they brought you along on Gabbie poo and I’s date!”

“It’s not a date. It’s detention.” I said calmly while trying to finish up my letter. I guess that you could consider us lucky because the supervisor was wearing his headphones while watching a movie. Otherwise, we would be in more trouble as it is.

I hurriedly wrote my letter and already half forgetting what I actually wrote. I don’t even think that I have the right grammar as I write. All I wanted to do is to go home and for this day to end.

“Come on, Gabriella. You’re almost there.” Tyrelle encouraged me as I was writing furiously.

At that same time, Al leaned closer to my desk with a frown. “Don’t listen to him, Gabbie Poo. Stay in detention with me. Later on, I will just compel them to forget that we even got detention.”

I paused from writing and stared at him. “You can do that?” I winced. Al grinned and nodded. “How come you haven’t done that earlier!?”

Al batted his eyes and puckered his lips. “Any time with you is quality time for me, babe. So, are you still going to write that letter?”

Without a second thought, I nodded with a lot of determination in my eyes. “I definitely do.”

“Oh, come on!” Al threw his hands in the air as he complained. Meanwhile, Tyrelle mockingly laughing at him.

Al just gave me a reason to finish my apology letter. Quality time with him? That’s a big no for me. I tuned out the two of them as they bickered while I focused on forming words to put on my paper. Every time that I would get stuck in a sentence, I would just have to think that if I don’t finish this now, I would be stuck here with Al.

And that reason alone is the only thing that was pushing me to go forward.

“Done!” I grimaced as I looked at my horrible penmanship, but let’s be honest. Do professors really read the things that we write? Well, if he wants to, Tyrelle wrote a pretty long two-page and back-to-back apology letter for him. I doubt that he would be interested in mine after he read his.

Tyrelle, even though he is a wolf, is such a good boy. No pun intended.

I went ahead and submitted my written letter to the supervisor, who didn’t even cast me a glance as I approached. He simply gestured for me to leave my paper on top of Tyrelle’s letter. “You may leave as well.” He said.

I let out a sigh of relief before heading back to my seat and saw that Tyrelle already had my bag in his hands as he waited for me by the door. “Good job, Gabriella. Now, let me drive you home.” He smiled.

“Hey!” Al protested while casting a murderous glance at Tyrelle.

I ignored him and headed for the werewolf boy. I then extended my hand towards him. “My bag. Give it to me. I can go home by myself.” Getting a free ride was nice, but it would mean getting to spend some time with Tyrelle.

And I feel like I have already used enough of my energy talking for the day.

Tyrelle seemed like he was about to object, but he must have seen my expression to know not to push his luck.

“Let me at least take you to the bus stop. That way, the pack won’t suspect anything.” He says.

It was a fair game. After all, we were still under a contract. I begrudgingly agreed with him while I looked back and gave Al a mocking wave of my hand. “Enjoy your quality with the paper!” I wish I could smile at that time because of the horrendous look on Al’s face just before I closed the door behind us.

I strolled alongside Tyrelle, keeping a tight eye on him because he was still carrying my bag. Even after we left school, none of us said anything. Then it came to me that even when we are alone, we hardly communicate. I suppose none of us are particularly interested in one another.

“This is my stop. Thanks for carrying my bag.” I extended my hand out to him to reach for my bag. Tyrelle didn’t budge even when I tug my bag strap from him. He seemed to be distracted and cast his gaze around us while sniffing the air.

Consciously, I sniffed my armpit wondering if that was what he was smelling. Nope. Not me.

I turned to him once again and waved my hand in front of his face. “Hello? Can I have my things now?” I demanded.

Tyrelle grabbed my shoulder without looking at me even when the bus arrived and the door opened. “Don’t go.” He says while looking at the passengers on the bus. “I’ll take you home myself.”

I wanted to protest but when I saw the intent look that he was giving the other passengers, I knew that I have to shut my mouth. Unlike Al, Tyrelle won’t force me to hang out with him. This means that if he was uneasy with me riding the bus, there must be something going on. He forced a smile at me that almost seemed genuine and out of character of him. “How about it? I still have time so I’ll drive you home.” Even though his voice was sweet, I could see that he was warning me with his eyes.

I gulped and looked back at the bus driver, who was waiting for me and kept the door open. “I’m sorry, but I’ll be going with him.” I pointed at Tyrelle, who now stood by my side, and glowered at the man.

“I see,” The bus driver says. I hadn’t noticed it at first but I don’t think that I have seen this bus driver before. Old Ridgetown is a small place so I think I have seen most of the drivers that would go to my house route.

Maybe Tyrelle was really on to something.

“Let’s go, Gabriella.” Tyrelle tightened his hold on my shoulder and pulled me back to the school.

I looked back cautiously to the school bus before leaned closer to Tyrelle so I could whisper. “What’s wrong? Is it something about the bus driver?” I asked.

Tyrelle’s eyes widened in horror. He looked at me for a brief moment before looking back at the bus behind us. Suddenly, he placed his hand on top of my head and pushed me down. “Duck!”

I fell onto the floor just as I heard sharp nails skidding on the cement floor. When I looked up, I saw a wolf hunching before us.
