Chapter 1436: Chapter 1436

'Okay...do I really have to go to Rainbowden? I could just screw off and find an entirely different Kaijin Lord who's good at crafting and get their inheritance instead,' Zhen Liu privately griped as he looked over the dossier of tangential faces. 'Maybe I'll luck out and some of these guys won't even be there when I roll up with my allies...maybe. Fuck...'

On the one hand, his pride as a warrior, a craftsman, and the Kaijin Lord compelled Zhen Liu to go to this hotspot of activity and claim what is rightfully his.

On the other, he was incredibly lazy and didn't want to deal with the peanut gallery of enemies that was surely going to be there.

Then again, some of those enemies had to be dealt with sooner or later. Especially the ones that were technically his enemies by proxy.

Looking over the profile of Duke Diamoro again, Zhen Liu let out a deep sigh, as he could feel it in his bones that he was going to be facing him and his allies again.

'Bloody hell, this is why I shouldn't make friends with people who have baggage...oh, who am I kidding? The only people I could make friends with are probably those with incredible amounts of baggage, especially since my baggage outweighs all of them.'

^Bah! What the f-wait, what?^

^Oh good, you're awake.^

In the medical wing of the [Library of Nowhere], Olstenna had finally roused from his unconsciousness and was understandably confused.

Moments ago, at least from his perspective, he was standing in the middle of an arena facing down Zhen Liu. The next, he found himself being chained to a medical bed while Lythero and Antonio were sitting in chairs that were right next to him.

Since he considered the duo to be his comrades-in-arms, Olstenna didn't really mind their presence. Although, Olstenna didn't appreciate the fact that neither Lythero nor Antonio was making any moves to try and free him.

That stated, he had an inkling at to why that was the case.

^Is it safe to assume that I'm here because I got beaten in the ring?^

^Yup,^ Antonio nodded.

^Zhen Liu straight up knocked your lights out with an electrified guitar of pain. Never seen a guy release that much electricity into someone's head before,^ Lythero added.

^That explains why my war cadence trick didn't work, ^ Olstenna grumbled. ^So why am I chained to a bed?^

^That was a suggestion on Zhen Liu's part,^ Lytheri answered. ^He thought that you would attempt to immediately challenge him to a rematch if you were left alone in the arena, and he assumed that you would've attempted to beeline towards him for a rematch if you weren't locked to your bed.^

^...I feel like I should take offense to that observation, but its also so accurate that I can't help but find it respectable.^

^He has that effect on people.^

Olstenna was silent for a couple of moments as the reality of his new loyalties sank in.

^Alright…did I miss anything interesting while I passed out?^

^Zhen Liu almost got decapitated by a hole in reality.^

On the plus side, working for Zhen Liu wasn't going to be boring for him in the slightest.

^Would you mind starting from the top? Were these two separate incidents or part of the same one?^

^By the phoenix's ashes…^

…Now back to our boy…

"...fuck it. It's better than doing nothing."

After reading and rereading the profiles of the bastards who were probably going to show up and put a damper on his ability to get his predecessor's inheritance, Zhen Liu eventually determined that running away wasn't the answer to his problems.

Instead, he had to charge into it like how a rhino charges into its predators headfirst. Preferably, with their horns leveled as well.

"Alright, forget about who might show up to this crazy-ass city of craftsmen," Zhen Liu eventually declared in order to get into the right headspace. "The important part is what am I supposed to do when I get there? Because I get the feeling that the Rainbow Smith's tomb has trials involved as well?"

Logos and Pathos looked at each other for a brief moment before snapping their fingers and manifesting a long parchment.

Zhen Liu was silent as he watched the parchment float down, waiting for the inevitable punchline.

"Is this the part where you tell me that the path to his tomb is comically—motherfucker, what the fuck?"

Zhen Liu was fully expecting a map that just showed a straight path to the Rainbow Smith's tomb.

The man seemed to live a simple life, and he fully expected the tomb to be equally simple.

Instead, he found himself staring at a long, complex map of an underground sewer system.

At this exact moment, Zhen Liu began to suck in a lot of air through his teeth, having to deal with yet another underground dungeon shitshow.

On the plus side, it was still on this level of reality.

"Alright, what the actual fuck am I looking at? Y'all said that the Rainbow Smith had a very simple tomb!"

=It was simple,= Logos defended himself. =Emphasis on the word: "was".=

The fact that such a bright and shiny city called "Rainbowden" was home to such a confusing network of tunnels was…mildly bullshit to Zhen Liu.

He had just spent a little over three months fucking with a mine of pure evil, and now he was going to an entirely different city in order to explore an entirely different set of underground tunnels. Granted, he actually spent those three months acting like the personal advisor to a psychopath, but the sentiment was the same…to Zhen Liu at least.

Regardless, at least this time there weren't going to be another pretender he'd be forced to fight...probably.

"Alright, bullshit tunnels aside, is there a way to directly access his tomb? And I don't mean the front door, keep that observation in your holster, Pathos."

Pathos proclaimed in mock offense.

=No,= Logos assured Pathos before fulfilling Zhen Liu's request. =Technically speaking there is a direct route.=

With one hand, Logos created a three dimensional hologram of the underground passageways that the Rainbow Smith was buried in.

With the other hand, Logos made a holographic display of the city of Rainbowden and stacked it on top of the tunnels.

The moment this occurred, Zhen Liu could immediately see that several of the buildings in Rainbowden were directly connected to some of the spaces in the tunnel network. New ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄhapters are published on NovєlFіre.net

=The rest of the records we have on Rianbowden detailed that most of the buildings that were built in the same era or at least three years after the Rainbow Smith's death, were built in such a way that they were all connected to individualized underground chambers,= Logos explained. =Of course, this includes the tomb of the Rainbow Smith.=

=Unfortunately, as is the nature of urban development, some of the old buildings were replaced with newer ones,= Logos continued to explain. =But they still maintained their underground connection. In other words...=

"There's a non-zero chance that whatever building is connected to the Rainbow Smith's tomb, could be anything from a historical workshop to a recently renovated mansion?" Zhen Liu asked in a dry tone.

<=Essentially, yes.=>

Thanks to this revelation, Zhen Liu didn't have to spend several long hours navigating through a series of labyrinth-like tunnels and chambers. Instead, he could simply just trespass on to private property and make a nuisance of himself as he gambled on whether or not their specific building was attached to a very specific underground chamber.

Correction: he could have the kaijin and zakos make nuisances of themselves as they snuck into the houses to find the Rainbow Smith's tomb, now that he had his connection with them restored to fill power.

At this exact moment, Zhen Liu was no incredibly thankful for the dozen or so voices in his head that were his beloved kaijin.

"So we have a destination, we have a list of possible enemies that may or may not get in the way, we have a goal of what to do when we get there, we have an idea on how to achieve said goal," Zhen Liu began to list off one after the other, mumbling to himself all the while. "Is there anything else that I should be made aware of before I say this is our next stop?"

<=Do you have a solid alibi in getting into the city of there's a security checkpoint?=>
