Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Her eyes met with the calming eyes of the caladrius and she knew she just had to save it. It would never be well with her if she left it there because her conscience was very active. She thought it wasn’t just that though. She felt a sort of kinship with the bird and it terrified her to many ends but for some reason, she was drawn to it.
She smiled as she walked towards the beautiful cage and she could have sworn that it smiled back at her. As she neared the cage, the bird drew closer and she placed her hand on its head, patting it gently.
The moment her fingers made contact with the bird, she felt something electric rush through her body. It was an undeniable feeling and it was addictive. She wanted to feel more of it so she let her hand rest on the bird’s head with eyes closed so she could drown in the overwhelming feeling.
“Save me.”
Her eyes shot open immediately. She could have sworn that she heard the bird say something but it looked just as it did before she closed her eyes. A smile made its way on her face and she was convicted. She would rescue it.
She took out the key she had stolen from her father and opened the cage while waiting for the bird to fly free. The bird did fly away but it waited to thank the girl that had saved it from an untimely death.
“Thank you. You have my blessing.”
Then the bird majestically flew away flapping its snow-white wings while she watched it go. She was sure she had been dreaming it. There was no way a bird could have been talking in her mind. It could have been as a result of the movies she watched. Yes, that was it.
“It was just a dream.”
A figure that had been watching her stepped out of the shadows as she made her way back to her house. The boy’s eyes twinkled as he watched her move and he knew, in that moment, he would do anything to have her.
