Chapter 31: Chapter 31
Author's POV.....
Years later....
"I'm home!" Ayo shouted immediately he entered the house.
"Hey! Welcome." Victoria shouted from the top of a tall table.
On seeing where his wife was, he rushed to her and carried her down from the table.
"What the hell are you doing there?!" He almost shouted.
"The fan had cob webs on it. I had to dust them away." Victoria pouted.
"Babe, I've told you not to do straineous work. Even the doctor said the same thing." He placed her on a couch.
"I'm pregnant not sick with cancer. I can do what I want." She crossed her arms.
"You know your Edd is next week. You have to be careful. You see the reason I wanted to hire a househelp?"
"No! We're not having any village girl or any type of girl in this house." She frowned and Ayo smirked
"I'm not looking at another women since I have a hot sexy, pregnant wife."
"That's not it. Don't you watch movies. Igbo films for that matter. You'll carry one kind possessed person in this house and she'll make life miserable for us, even the baby won't agree." Victoria argued.
"Okay, fine I won't bring any help into this house. Just promise to be careful. I don't want to go out and be worried that my wife is probably doing seat-up's in the house with a soon to be born baby in her belly."
"I promise." She lied.
Victoria believed she was fine, she could still do the works that she wanted to. But her over caring and protective husband doesn't think so. He went to the extent of asking for a leave in her office till she gives birth. Now she has pre-maternity leave and post-martanity leave, all because of him.
"Okay babe." He kissed her forehead and her belly.
"I'm coming lemme see what I can cook." He got up and she bursted into laughter.
"What happened." He glared at her
"Since when can you cook?"
"You thought me somethings remember?" He rolled his eyes.
"Okay. I've already cooked." She smiled
"What?! How?!" His eyes widened.
"I just went to the market and I bought some ingredients, I entered my car and drove back home, then I had a bath, entered the kitchen, brought out a pot, put it on fire, then I began cooking, and when I was done, I put the meal in a cooler and arranged it on the dinning table, so I got bored and watched TV and that's when I saw the cobweb on the fan and decided to clean it off and that's when you came in and......."
"I didn't asked for the full details. Must you stress yourself?"
"I was bored and tired of you treating me like a sick person for the past nine months and....." She froze.
Victoria lost all the words in her head when she felt a sharp pain in her belly. She looked down at her feet and saw water-like substance trickling down her legs and wetting the floor.
"Ayo." She chokes on her words.
"What's.." he trailed the direction of her eye and his jaw dropped.
"Babe. Just calm down okay..."
"The baby is coming." Tears flowed down her eyes because of the pain she felt... everywhere.
"Babe. Look at me. We're going to the hospital okay?" He rushed to her and wrapped his arms around her for support.
When he realised her legs didn't even flinch, he swept her off her feet and carried her out of the house bridal style.
"It's okay. God, when did you become so fat?" He muttered and she groaned more.
"Just hang on..."
"Don't you dare tell me to hang on. You better hurry if you don't want to see a baby come out of me in your car." She growled at him.
.................
"Get a doctor!" Ayo shouted at nobody in particular when he entered the hospital.
When the nurses saw it was a lady in labour, they began running about. And within minutes, Victoria was on a bed and Ayo was holding her hand.
"Where's the fucking doctor?!" Ayo shouted not liking the idea that his wife was in pain.
"I'm here." A male voice said before walking in.
"I'm doctor Joshua nice meeting you." He greeted.
"No no no no no. You're not the doctor I want." Ayo shook his head.
"What?!" Both Victoria and the doctor shouted.
"I need a female doctor." Ayo insisted.
"Ayo what the hell. A baby that seems to be very big is about to come out of my virgina and you're still selecting a doctor for me? Doctor please don't mind him, come and take care of me." She said and the doctor stepped forward.
"If you move any closer, I swear I'll punch you right in the face." Ayo glared.
"Ayo!" Victoria shouted.
"I'm sorry babe, but as much as I love you and don't want you in pain, I'm still not going to let any man see what's down there, talk less of putting his hands in it all in the name of baby delivery." Ayo glared at the doctor who was staring at him in shock.
"Sir, we understand your care but we need to attend to her...."
"I said I need a female for this?" Ayo shouted and the doctor flinched
"Sir the most of them all are busy with other things....."
"You're not going to attend to her...."
"What if I help." The room turned silent at the sound of the voice.
"Ola, thank God. Please help me tell this godforsaken husband to let the doctor do his job. I'm not exactly enjoying what I'm feeling right now." Victoria cried out.
"Ola, forget the fact we know each other, no male is delivering her and that's final."
"Ayo, look, I'm the only one here that you can trust okay...."
"Wouldn't that make things worst. You'd come to visit and when you see my wife the first thing that pops to your head is I saw her...."
"Ayo!" Victoria called out again when the pain became intense.
"Please..." She added as tears began to flow down her cheek.
"Ola, can't you find someone...um...what about Ella..."
"She's not working in this hospital...."
"Then we'll go to where she's working."
"Ayo!" Everyone chorused his name.
"Look I just...." He wanted to protest again but took a glance at his wife.
He hated the state she was in, he also hated the idea of another man seeing what belonged to him.
"Okay....but only Ola." He pointed out...
"Thank you. But please could you leave us alone?" Ola asked.
"What no. She's my wife. I'm staying."
"With the show you just pulled off. You're just gonna make things uneasy for us here.."
"But..."
"Ayo please just listen to someone for once in your life." Victoria pleaded.
"Fine." He muttered and left the room for them.
...............
It's been about thirty minutes and no one came in or out of the ward room Victoria was in and Ayo has been pacing back and forth the hospital hallway, waiting nervously for them to finish.
He found himself asking requests from God, to protect her and the baby.
Ayo wasn't exactly the type to be religious, he believed there was God and someone who created us, but he wasn't deep in the spirit like the way Victoria was.
He kept on praying to God to help him out....he even went to the extent of saying...
Oh lord if you protect them for me, I promise to serve you more
He wasn't joking about his promise and he hoped God heard him.
I don't want to loose the ones I love.
I don't want to loose my family.
My wife.
My baby.
Please God.
Help me out.
Still in his prayers, Ola finally walked out. Ayo rushed to him with expectations and the warm smile he received from Ola cooled his tension.
"Congrats you have a baby boy." Ola said and Ayo's heart fluttered with joy.
Thank you God
Wait....
"W-what about...Victoria?" He stammered, rejecting any bad thoughts.
Ola didn't say anything....
"Ola...."
Ayo called his name but he just lowered his head in response.
What was that supposed to mean?...
"Ola, what about her...what about Victoria, my wife, your friend....." Ayo moved forward
"I'm...."
Before Ola could say anything, Ayo grabbed him by the shirt and hit him on the wall.
"What happened to my wife. What did you do to her...." Ayo raised a fist ready to punch Ola, but paused....
He paused when a heard a baby crying from the wardroom. Without thinking of anything, he rushed into the room....
Then he smiled.
He just saw his beautiful baby.
His son....
In his mother's arms. And thank God...She was alive.
With that thought in mind, he went back outside to meet Ola that had a smile on his face, then he landed a heavy blow on that face.
"That's for almost giving me a heart attack." He told him.
"It wasn't my idea. Victoria made me do it." Ola defended himself, holding his jaw that just got hit.
"Then don't do it next time." Ayo warned and walked back in to embrace his family.
"He looks like his dad." Victoria whispered, a smile still plastered on her face.
"But took his mum's eyes." Ayo added and kissed his sons head.
He faced Victoria and kissed her on the lips, she returned it with a wider smile.
"We're going to have to reduce that." She said.
"Why?"
"The baby would be watching. What kind of Nigerian parent would we be if we let our son see us kissing all the time?" She asked
"We're going to have to change somethings in Nigerian parenting style. Cos nothing is going to make me stop kissing you." He told her.
"Segun. That's what I want to call him."
"We should have talked about this before now." Ayo groaned.
"Meaning?"
"The name is fine but I wanted an English name like, Jace or Jason or Austin."
"Look here Wattpad ambassador, this isn't one of those books on Wattpad, we're Yoruba and he should have a Yoruba name." She said and Ayo pouted.
"Please na." He begged
"Okay. He can bare Jace as a second name, but his first in his birth certificate is Segun Okay?"
"Okay ma....can I carry Jace now?" Ayo asked and she nodded.
Ayo gave another look at his son and smiled more.
"Hey baby. Welcome to our family....I wanted to let you know that your mum and I will be there for you all the way Okay. Your first step, word, crush, kiss, girlfriend and every other girlfriends that you'll have. We'll be there cos we love you. Because I love you. I love you and your mother Okay? I just want you to always know that."
"You want out child to be a flirt?" Victoria raised a brow.
"Wasn't I one? That's the only way to have any girl you want and still end up with the most perfect of them all." Ayo explained.
"He's not going to be a flirt. He's going to be a good boy."
"Who said anything about not being good? He's going to be good, at everything damn thing. I'll make sure of it." He winked at her and she rolled her eyes.
"Let's just go home. I'm sure the twins would be happy to hear this." Victoria rested her back on the bed.
The twins.
They're still friends with Victoria, even tighter now.
Debby and Tunde are engaged. It was a good thing that Victoria made them meet in that school building. Now they're crazy in love with each other.
As for Vanessa, she and Luke, even with all the years together, they still didn't 'workout' according to Nessa.
But Victoria believes they'll still get back together.
Cos when you love someone, you let them go.
If he/she comes back, then you know they're yours.
