Chapter 40: Chapter 40
“Are you gonna visit me everyday?” A sobbing David asked Isabel, as he clung on to her tightly, preventing her from leaving him with Rodrigo and Paulina.
“I can’t promise you that.” She honestly replied, but regretted it the minute David’s sobs got louder.
“Okay. I promise I’ll come check up on you every other day, to see how much you’ve improved.”
This time her reply worked like magic, as David’s sobs turned to light sniffles.
“Really?”
“Yes, really.”
“What if you break your promise?” He asked, pulling away from the hug to look into Isabel’s eyes.
The teary eyes and tear stained face of the pup standing in front of her and staring right into her soul, waiting expectantly for her reply made her think of ways to keep her word. It wasn’t going to be easy to check up on David since she now has a new task on her hands, but she also didn’t want to go back on her word and betray the young werewolf, who had so much faith in her.
“If I can’t make it, I’ll have Dylan come check up on you. You like that?”
David nodded enthusiastically, already excited with the thought of spending time with his older brother whom he has missed for months.
“Now we’re good. I also want you to promise me that you’ll pay attention to everything my dad tells you.” Isabel said and he nodded with a smile.
She ruffled his hair affectionately before standing up, as she was previously on a kneeling position.
“He’s all yours now.” She told her dad through mind link.
“Make him a strong werewolf.”
Rodrigo gave a nod of agreement and held the pup, who was now his responsibility close to himself. His action convinced Isabel that she made the right choice.
“I’ll have Fernando bring the rest of his things.” She sent a faint smile David’s way, which he returned with a grin.
Honestly, she couldn’t help but wonder why exactly Dylan’s younger brother was fond of her and her dad, when she barely even knows them.
“You can talk to Dylan, and you both can work towards having one of your own.” Paulina advised her daughter through mind link.
Isabel didn’t realize that she was staring affectionately at David until her mom’s voice broke through her thoughts. She didn’t want to accept or disregard her mom’s advice, so she turned around and left the house without a single word.
As Isabel drove back home, her thoughts were on her mom’s last statement. She can’t fall for that at the moment, because she has a pack to run, she has enemies to defeat and most of all, she has a mate to protect.
But on the other hand, spending less than forty eight hours with David has awaken a yearning for a pup of her own. The way he held on to her hand in his sleep when she tucked him in, the previous night made her wonder what it would be like to have a pup, and watch him or her sleep every night.
‘Get a hold of yourself, Isabel’ she mentally cautioned herself, shrugging off every unnecessary thoughts.
“You’re back.” Dylan greeted with a smile as soon as his mate walked into the house. He was watching a football game on TV while he waited for Isabel and David’s return.
“Where’s David?” He then asked when he didn’t see his little brother behind his mate or anywhere around her.
“He’s gonna be living with my parents from now on.” She simply replied.
“What?!” Dylan exclaimed, as his mate’s reply took him by surprise.
“Since when did you have that in mind?”
“Does it matter?” She nonchalantly replied.
“Yes it does, Isabel. David is my brother.”
Okay. This wasn’t how she expected the conversation to go.
“Don’t you dare raise your voice at me.”
“Really?... You’re still gonna use that right now?”
Was it just her wolf overreacting or has Dylan suddenly become disrespectful?
She let it slide the first time because he was sick, but she wouldn’t let it become a habit.
“You do realize that you’re talking to me, right?”
Luckily, Isabel was in control of her emotions and not her wolf.
“That’s your problem, Isabel. You see me as your subordinate and not your mate. Every time I try to express myself, I’m either threatened or almost beaten up… David is my brother, Isabel, so courtesy demands that I know every single thing that goes on in his life.”
“What are you so worked up about?”
“I don’t know!” Dylan shouted in reply.
Isabel was right. He was working himself up over nothing, but he couldn’t help it. It was like his body and mind were acting independent of each other.
“We can talk when you’re sober.” Isabel concluded, heading towards her study.
She couldn’t stand Dylan’s attitude for another second because she would flip and let her wolf be in control. But that isn’t how she plans to handle every issue they’re faced with, as it will only make them grow apart or she may one day end up killing her mate. She realized that from their previous experiences.
Before Isabel could make it out of the living room, Dylan reached for her small waist, hugging her from behind.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”
“That has been your excuse of late.”
“I’m serious… I feel so frustrated and I don’t even know why. It’s like my wolf wants some sort of connection with you… At least, that’s what I think.”
There was desperation in Dylan’s voice and that didn’t sit well with Isabel, who may have a clue as to why her mate was deeply disturbed, but she didn’t want to jump to conclusions.
She turned around to face him, cupping his face in her hands.
“What do you want, Dylan?” She asked with total sincerity, as she was willing to do whatever he asked of her.
“I need you.”
That was all Isabel needed to hear. She took Dylan by the hand and guided him towards the couch, making him sit before straddling him comfortably. She started by placing a soft kiss on his lips, going lower to his chin.
Dylan pulled her closer to himself as her lips skillfully caressed her imprint on his neck. He could already feel himself harden from his mate’s ministration, so he let him wolf overpower his composure and in a matter of seconds Isabel was lying on the couch.
“Your wolf is one horny bastard.” Isabel commented as she gazed fondly into his golden orbs before pulling him to herself for a long, hard kiss.
His hands explored every inch of her body as he undressed her.
The smell of their arousal filled the living room, preventing any other werewolf in the house from going towards that area. It was a good thing she sent David over to her parents’.
Dylan’s lips found its way to her hardened nipples, nibbling and sucking on it, causing her to moan in excitement.
Isabel suddenly flipped them over, switching their position. She wanted to be in control this time. She covered his lips with hers while she fumbled with his joggers.
“Let me take care of you.” She breathed, tracing hot kisses down his chest, as one of her hands pinned his large ones above his head.
His wolf howled from within, ecstatic to be this close with its mate again. This feeling was different from the first time they mated and he couldn’t explain it.
Could it be because of her imprint? He felt completely subdued by her.
Isabel felt Dylan tremble underneath her, as she swiped her tongue on the tip of his manhood. She smirked at his reaction before lining his long length inside her wet hole. Dylan let out a satisfied moan when he was completely buried inside her, giving Isabel the permission she needed to do as she pleased. She rode him slowly at the beginning, sending electricity all over his body before increasing her pace as she was lost in the pleasure. His muscular hands rested on her waist and he swiftly changed their position, working his magic inside her with each hard stroke, making her a moaning mess. They were both exploding with pleasure and didn’t care about their current location and the fact that anybody could walk in on them.
Isabel and Dylan ended up making love thrice on the couch, to satisfy Dylan’s yearning and to make up for lost time.
Dylan was cuddled against Isabel after their love making session, sound asleep while Isabel gently stroked his blonde locks, admiring his handsome features. She hopes their love making would be enough to tame his wolf, or whatever it was that was bothering him.
“Alpha. You need to come to the border.” Xavi’s voice interrupted her quiet time through mind link.
“Can’t it wait?” She irritatedly asked.
“I’m sorry, alpha but it’s urgent.”
Xavi wouldn’t think of reaching her if he could handle the situation at the border, so she ought not to ignore him.
Carefully untangling herself from Dylan, she managed to climb out of the chair without waking her mate. She put on her clothes and placed a kiss on Dylan’s hair after going upstairs to get a blanket to cover his naked body.
“What’s the situation?” Isabel questioned her beta as soon as she reached the border.
Something seemed off about the area but she couldn’t put her finger on it. The smell of animal blood suddenly hit her nostrils, causing her wolf to become alert.
“What’s that smell?”
“We found two dead antelopes under one of the trees just at the border. They were heavily mutilated.”
It was one thing for werewolves to go hunting, but this was different. It was like the person responsible for this was sending her a message.
“Is that all you have to tell me? What I want to know is, who’s responsible for this?”
Isabel’s wolf was getting anxious because she feared that her nightmare was turning into a reality. This was happening even quicker than she expected.
“Alpha, I’m sorry I couldn’t get here on time to catch the culprit.” Xavi apologized as he sensed his cousin’s anger. He didn’t want her taking it out on the werewolves at the border because the situation was much more complicated than what it looks like.
“Although I arrived late, I was able to spot the people responsible for this from a distance.”
“People?”
They are more than one? Isabel thought to herself, nervously running her fingers through her loose hair, as she was in a hurry and didn’t have the time to wrap it up in a ponytail.
“They were two rogues. Ignacio was one of them, but I couldn’t recognize the other rogue.”
So, Ignacio is responsible for what happened at the Greenwood pack. She shouldn’t have spared his life when she killed his son. Now, her wrong decision has come back to hunt her.
“Something was a bit off about the other rogue.” Xavi brought to Isabel’s attention. He was yet to comprehend what he noticed about the other werewolf, but it seems only right to tell his cousin what he observed earlier.
“Which is?” Isabel asked, her complete attention now on her cousin.
“There was a hint of our family scent on the other rogue.” He couldn’t bring himself to say the words out loud, so he divulged the information through mind link, to prevent the other werewolves from hearing it.
Isabel’s guess was indeed accurate. This can only be done by her half brother. She began to beat herself up over her inability to face him at the Greenwood pack when she had the chance. None of this would be happening if she hadn’t let herself get distracted then.
“Alpha, alpha” Xavi called Isabel repeatedly, to get her attention as her claws were already coming out.
When she jerked her head towards his direction, he murmured the words,
“You’re shifting.” to help Isabel keep her wolf in check.
Isabel, on the other hand was fuming with rage from her brother’s actions. He was trying to make his presence felt, which means her alpha position is being threatened. She can’t let that happen, not in her lifetime.
She took deep breaths and rubbed her hand over her face to control her pounding heart.
“Assign more werewolves to the border. Make sure no one slacks off in his duty from henceforth.” She instructed Xavi, as she walked towards her car.
She needed to go back home as fast as possible, to see if her mate was doing okay, because as it is, she has no idea what this half brother of hers actually wants.
Xavi was uncomfortable with how anxious his cousin was behaving. From her body language, he could tell she knew the identity of the other werewolf, so he stopped her as she was about getting into her car.
“Who is he?” He asked.
“You don’t wanna know.”
“I won’t be asking if I didn’t. Isabel, he has our scent. What does that even mean?”
This was her dad’s secret, but at the same time Xavi was family, and all of this will come out sooner than later. So, it is only right that her beta knows the identity of the enemy they will be going up against.
“He’s my dad’s son.”
To say Xavi was surprised was an understatement. He was flabbergasted by this piece of information. Never in his wildest dream did he imagine his uncle having a child besides his cousins, Isabel and Teresa.
“Why? I mean, how?... It’s not even possible.” He stuttered, still finding it difficult to fathom how his uncle has a son out of wedlock.
“I’ll explain everything later… Tell no one about this.” Isabel warned her cousin through gritted teeth.
Too shocked to even move from his current spot, Xavi nodded in reply.
If this gets out, his uncle’s reputation will be ruined. How are they supposed to go up against such a strong enemy?
He doesn’t doubt Isabel’s strength, but a male offspring of his uncle wouldn’t be an easy opponent. Now more than ever, he needs to be there for his cousin.
“Xavi”
“Huh?”
“Kill any rogue on sight.”
