Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Leaving the academy secretly (2)- The encounter with the beast
Theo, Clara and Elias started packing right away. There wasn’t much except his clothes for now.
He went to the study room and pulled on the makeshift ant hill to make them come with him.
The mantis was already in the beast space, looking at everything with unknown emotions.
But just when everything was done, Elias looked at Clara and stopped moving his hands.
He moved and looked at Theo, who was making sure the ants were alright.
"Young master, maybe you should take the evaluation..." he spoke with a calm voice.
Theo got up from his knees and looked at Elias with a frown.
"What?"
"I was thinking about what might happen if they were to find out the strength of the mantis, young master. And when I think about it with a calm head, it feels like if the mantis’s strength were to be revealed right now... wouldn’t that be better for you? They could start focusing more on you and groom you into a stronger tamer..."
When Elias stopped speaking, Theo kept looking at him with a frown for almost half a minute. He wasn’t just staring at him but thinking too.
"What makes us sure they will do that? And the point of hiding my strength right now was not because the academy might do something. No, it’s because I am not ready for the whole kingdom to know about it, Elias."
"It will make me have more enemies than I would have liked at this point in my life, you both know that. Even you know that my strength is not at the point where I can defend myself properly." Theo spoke and took a deep breath. He needed this intervention and he knew Elias wasn’t done.
’You should be fortunate that my master isn’t here, or I would have torn you into two pieces by now. And you dare leave this academy?’
Suddenly, a nostalgic voice came into Theo’s mind, making him jump due to how sudden it was.
"YOU." Theo spoke out loud in frustration.
’Why does it want me dead?! I don’t understand. Is it my affinity??’ Theo thought rapidly.
Both Elias and Clara looked at him in confusion. Theo was out of it right now, and they couldn’t understand how.
When he looked at them and their confused state, he quickly took a deep breath.
"I will be in my study for a while. Don’t come inside. I will be out soon." Theo spoke and went inside, leaving the ant hill out in the lobby.
"Is he okay? I am scared for him now," Clara spoke with panic.
"...Maybe I shouldn’t have said that, Clara. He is so mature that at the end of the day, we both forget he is 10 years old..."
Back in the room, Theo looked around the room with gritted teeth.
"Why do you want me dead? What have I ever done to you? If anything, it’s you who has been pestering me since that day. I kept your secret a secret too." Theo spoke with a voice laced with poison.
There was no response for a few seconds, but soon, the beast spoke again.
"I remember everything about what happened in the past, you brat. I can’t let a power like you get out of hand, before it’s too late." The beast spoke in an almost threatening voice.
When Theo heard that, he became more curious than furious by now.
"What is with this past and my affinity all about, beast?? What have I done currently, in the present, to make you act like this? Do you think I am evil?" Theo spoke.
"It’s YOU that doesn’t understand what you’ve been born with, you imbecile. Wake up and look at what you’ve already achieved with those insects!"
"The stronger you grow, the stronger your beasts will. That is not how this should work! Not since that damned thing entered our home!"
When Theo heard all that, it made him want to start shouting. The things it was saying made him think that this beast knew a lot more than he’d thought before.
"Listen, I don’t know what you have seen in the past, but I now know that you’re more than just a beast living inside this academy who can use telepathy. You have seen things."
Theo continued, "I have been trying to find out about this world’s real truth too, beast. I want to know what you’re talking about. I AM NOT AN ENEMY!" Theo spoke with confidence this time.
Whatever this beast was doing, it was clear that it knew something that was making it react this way.
"And I have noticed that you haven’t told any of the instructors or the academy about me and my affinity, the ’truth’ you’ve been spouting loudly for some time now. Is it that you can’t do anything?"
"HOW DARE YOU?!"
"I will rip your body to shreds the moment I get the order! JUST YOU WAIT!"
"And when will this order be? From the way you’re talking, I don’t think your master is around."
Theo did not know where he was getting this much courage to speak like this with such a beast, but one thing was clear, he had gone too far and couldn’t go back now.
There was silence for a whole two minutes.
Theo didn’t know what to do anymore, but he had to make some things better now.
"Listen, I am not your enemy. If you’ve been in this academy for god knows how many years, then it says something about you... Please just listen to me before moving to conclusions."
Another silence for a few minutes.
"400 years."
"What?"
"I have been here for 400 years! Rotting beneath this academy ever since."
Theo was surprised enough to finally sit on a chair.
"If you keep aside your feelings of ripping me to shreds for now, I want to make you understand that I am not a threat to anyone."
"It’s the fact that you’re dumb enough to not even understand what I have been trying to tell you! You are not a threat right now, but that power can change the world in ways even I can’t fathom. We don’t need such a curve in destiny when we are this close to achieving what we want for the last 500 years!"
"Getting rid of those fucking devils for good!"
