Chapter 31: Chapter 31
...I pledged myself to you, only to find out that you are not the one I strive for. That, you are not the one I loved...
Evelyn POV:-
Becoming tensed and afraid by each passing second, I continued to live my life as if I am perfectly fine. Being tormented by this affliction, I am smiling radiantly. I just want this to end. This is causing me to crumble.
Who is this and why is he or she doing it? Can’t I live happily?
"Evelyn?" I snapped from my thoughts and looked at Lawrence who called my name worriedly.
"Yes?" I spoke in my usual sweet tone.
“Where are you lost? Did you hear what I said?” He asked softly, holding my hand, rubbing circles over it.
“I am sorry, I was.. Lost in thoughts. What were you saying?” I asked innocently, hoping he might not be angry due to my lack of attention.
"What happened? You are so lost nowadays." He said, concerned about me.
"It's nothing." I smiled and put my head over his shoulder. He took my other hand too in his, giving it a tight reassuring squeeze and said,
"I am here for you Evelyn. If something is bothering you, then tell me. You know you can tell me…” He smiled sincerely, wanting to do anything for me.
“Unless you don’t want to share your thoughts.” His smirk converted into a smirk, teasing me. Sighing, I smirked back, trying not to act sorrowful.
“Of course, why would I?” I chuckled, refusing to let go of his hand.
“Now that I think about it, you rarely shared anything with me. I always came to you whenever I needed female advice but you never told me anything…” He trailed off, thinking about old times.
But I won’t deny, at a certain point, I did want to ask Lawrence what to do, to ask for his help but I was too frightened to ask.
The question ‘What would he think’ halted my intentions and till today, I couldn’t tell him.
“Well, I never had something exciting to share… Just a normal life.” I hummed, shrugging my shoulders, chuckling nervously.
“If you say so…” He hummed, resting his head on my shoulder, turning to me, smiling sweetly.
“So, what is it now? Pray tell, Ma’am or else this man would be extremely vexed.” He chuckled, kissing my cheeks. I don’t understand how easily he induces intensely contentful sensations to my core. How smoothly he spellbinds me…
"I am really fine. Just..." I trailed off, averting my gaze with a dried throat, perturbed about his reaction. Of what he will say. I know he could bear anyone in this world but his brother.
"Just?" He questioned. I was stiff, I couldn't possibly tell him that I used to like his brother.
I thought of an answer that would convince him and said, "I am missing my parents."
He chuckled and asked, "Do you want to meet them?" I grinned and nodded.
"Okay," he said as I hugged him tightly. "You're the best!" I beamed.
"By the way, are you sleepy?" He asked as I shook my head 'no'. "Let's watch a movie, It's been a while." He offered and I smiled and left before saying,
"You select the movie. I'll go and get some snacks."
Maybe at my parents home I can call Jane there and ask for her help. On my way to the kitchen to make a midnight snack for me and Lawrence, I bump into someone.
I looked up and saw Danielle giving me a sympathetic look. "I am sorry Evelyn. You know I love you and will never think bad for you." She said in a sorrowful voice- almost regret.
"Yeah... What happened? We just bumped, nothing else." I said, confused.
"I am sorry, please forgive me." She said and ran away.
“Dani- What’s with her?” I shrugged my shoulders and left for the kitchen.
What happened to her?
I called Jane, "Hey, Accidental Bride, How's it been?" She asked.
"I am fine and please stop calling me that," I said, frowning.
"Okay... So? Calling In the midnight, Everything is fine?" She asked.
"No, I want to talk to you," I said afraid.
"What happened?" She asked worriedly.
"Not now, I'll talk to you when I'll meet you," I said. "Okay, tell me, when?"
"On Sunday, I and Lawrence are going to my parents' home. There."
"Got it! Bye!" She almost shouted.
"Bye.." I laughed and cut the call.
Danielle POV:-
I felt so bad looking at Evelyn like that. Just because the fact that she liked Adrian has become the greatest dread of hers. Behind her clouds of joy, an enormous apprehension resides that Brother might not know about it.
If those fears won't be removed, Evelyn will lose herself in those abysses. I want to help her and the only way to help her is to make her face her fears.
I am sorry, Evelyn.
It's early morning and no one is awake. I tiptoed and walked inside Adrian's room. I bent and began to crawl. I slowly reached his phone and saw a pin lock.
I cursed under my breath and realized that his phone can also be unlocked by fingerprint. I look at Adrian who was sleeping peacefully without being aware that Evelyn is falling apart. I cautiously picked his index finger and put it on the lock.
Luckily, I know his password and I began to search for the conversation he had with Evelyn. I am pretty sure he had hidden a conversation he had with Evelyn somewhere.
I opened the hidden files folder and saw that. I sent it to me and put everything back the way it was. Thankfully he doesn't set an app lock. I heaved a sigh and left.
I am pacing around the room as my heart is beating faster. Should I do this? I gulped and pulled my hair in frustration. If Evelyn overcomes that obstacle, she'll be freed from her fear forever. I took a deep breath and calmed myself.
With my deepest apologies, I sent those screenshots Brother...
