Chapter 10: Chapter 10
...I want never to leave you but how can I stay with you when you are not mine either?...
Evelyn POV:-
“Argh..”
My eyes slowly opened and adjusted themselves to see clearly. The sunlight penetrating through the window made the room lit. I was laying on my stomach with my arms and legs stretched out.
I yawn and frown at the sunlight that was igniting the room. I averted my gaze from the window to the bed and my eyes widened.
I realized that I am not in my bed and whatever happened yesterday was true. I lay there still like I am drowned in the pool of my thoughts.
“Oh my God, it was true…”
I closed my eyes and sat on the bed. I rubbed my eyes and stayed in my messy form.
After a while, my eyes fell upon Lawrence who was sleeping peacefully yet with discomfort on the couch. I kept looking at him as the flashbacks from yesterday rushed in my mind.
I deeply sighed. No matter what, I am married now and I also promised that I'll be a good wife. I got out of bed and took a quick shower.
My suitcase arrived early in the morning, I have already put my clothes in the closet. I wore a long blue embroidered shirt with lace sleeves, the dress stopped right above my knees.
I wore matching tights with it too. It's my first day of marriage, I should look good. After being satisfied that I am looking good, I sat on the bed.
I put my chin on my palm and began to think. What should I do? Maybe I'll call my mother. No, maybe it's too soon.
“Today is Sunday, so what should I do?”
My lips form a thin line as the realization hit me that I have to go down there as Lawrence's wife and greet everyone, including Adrian.
My heart began to beat fast at the thought of how awkward it's gonna be. I gulped.
No, don't think about him. You are married, You can't do it.
You have to be loyal and not think about Adrian at all cost. You are trying to forget him now you have a reason to do it.
“You can do this.” I encouraged myself.
Lawrence is my husband and I have to think about him and him only. I stood up and decided to do what Mother does on Sunday.
I stood up and without looking at Lawrence, I walked out of the room. I went to the kitchen and began to prepare breakfast for everyone.
As I was cooking, I saw Aunt Kyla coming into the kitchen. I smiled at her and greeted her with a 'Good Morning'.
"Good Morning Evelyn. What are you doing here?" Aunt asked as I replied.
"I am making breakfast for everyone."
"Sweetheart, You don't have to do it. It's your first day here." Aunt said reassuringly. I gave them my usual bright smile as I said,
"It's not. I have been here ever since I was born."
"I mean as Mrs Bayford." Aunt tried to reason but I replied.
"I am still your daughter." She sighed as she put her hands in the air. She knows that I am stubborn and if I want to do something, I will do it.
After convincing her to allow me to make breakfast, I cooked pancakes for Lawrence because he liked them a lot and boiled eggs for Adrian and french toast for Aunt and Uncle.
After cooking breakfast, I went to wake Lawrence up.
On my way, I bump into Adrian. My heart began to thump loudly, not because of that feeling of fondness I used to feel about him.
“I.. umm.”
It was something else, It was nothing but fear.
"Uh Evelyn." He called me. I was stiff with my heart racing.
"You okay?" His voice came pale, my breath hitched.
I fidgeted with my dress and exhaled deeply trying to suppress the apprehension building inside me. Fear of what I am not aware of yet.
“Is everything alright?” He asked again, taking a step closer.
“Sorry.” I mumbled, not replying to him and left for my room.
“Evelyn-” He tried to call me but I ignored and walked away.
Adrian is the person I want to stay away from at all costs. I don't even want to see his face.
I entered the room and saw Lawrence still sleeping. I took a deep breath.
“It's okay Evelyn. He is your husband now.” Preparing myself mentally, I came closer.
"Lawrence.." I called out his name softly but he didn't even flinch.
I took a step close to him, watching him sleeping on the couch, lost in a lull but slightly uncomfortable all because of my lull.
"Lawrence," I called a little louder this time but still no answer. I walked closer and shook him slightly.
"Lawrence!" I said a little loudly, irked by his lack of reaction.
His eyebrows twitch as he growls. My heart skipped a beat when I heard it. I was about to shake him again but he suddenly sat and spoke up.
"I am awake, woman, stop nagging!"
“Ek!” I squeak and stumble back, shutting my eyes and shivering a bit. Lawrence slowly opened his eyes and looked at my scared form with a raised brow.
“Huh?” He blinked, rubbing his eyes, also recalling last night but then a smirk was formed on his face as he said.
"Is Evelyn also scared? Woah, I hold such an immense power now, is it?" He teased me as I pouted and threw a pillow at him which he caught easily.
“Maybe I should use it more often.” He laughed a little, pissing me off.
"And here I am being a good wife cooking breakfast for you and you... You are not getting anything." I hissed and turned to leave.
I was not delighted by it at all.
"Hey! I am sorry. At least don't take away my breakfast." He said playfully as he stood up.
I closed my arms at my chest, frowning deeply at him.
"The food made by me isn't for Lawrence Bayford." I enunciated, rolling my eyes off.
"You also bear my name. You are not eating too then." He chuckled, pushing me from his shoulder, bringing a feeble blush on my cheeks.
He has done it many times, pushing me by his shoulders playfully then why.. It felt different?
"My first name is not Lawrence." I retorted, upholding my facade. I and Lawrence are always like this. Frisky.
"At least, Can I have breakfast? I won't tell anyone that you got scared." He laughed a little, still stuck on the fact that I got scared..
"If you don't come down in 10 minutes, I'll tell everyone that you are begging me to give you breakfast," I smirked viciously, folding my arms.
We stared at each other for a few seconds and began to laugh for sharing a goofy, meaningless moment.
"Okay. Okay, I am coming." Lawrence sighed, putting his hand in the air in defeat.
"I am waiting for you," I nodded with a grin, motioning to him to hurry up..
"You don't have to. You can go and eat." Lawrence’s tender resonance came, gesturing to me to leave.
"Lawrence, I don't know what a good wife is but to me my mother is a great example of how a wife should be.” I breathed out, causing him to stop in his tracks and arch a brow in confusion.
“So what?”
“And learning from her, I am waiting for you here and we'll leave the room together." I breathed out. He looked at me for a few second and left before saying,
"At least you have learned something from Aunt."
Gasping but before I could say anything he went inside the bathroom.
I pouted and picked the blanket that was thrown on the floor and folded it neatly and put it on the bed.
I smiled a little, my relationship with Lawrence is the same as before fortunately.
Lawrence is a gentleman but we tease each other a lot but I indulge in his company. He was always present to listen.
I don't know what I should be doing, I am just doing what I have seen my mother doing in her life for father.
And the way she takes care of father, I'll take care of Lawrence. I smiled sadly, I am missing my parents. I wish they were here.
I was lost in my thoughts, I didn't even notice Lawrence walked out of the bathroom.
"Evelyn." He called me, standing behind me with a minimum distance which made my heart race.
"Hmm?" I hummed, not turning to look at him.
He leaned down a bit and smiled earnestly, "Thank you." He whispered.
A blush crept upon my cheeks as I turned to him and gave him an innocent look, "For what?" I asked.
"For everything you have done. I will try my best to keep you happy and if you need anything, tell me." He said with a tender smile and the gentle aura which relaxed me instantly in his presence.
I stared back at him, a smile coming to my lips.
"Lawrence..." I called him timidly. Wondering how I got so lucky to get such a considerate husband like him.
"Shall we leave?" He asked with a grin. I nervously looked away and nodded.
"Yeah.. sure." I said shyly as we both left the room.
I knew he was the most charismatic guy of the Bayford family, having everyone in the snap of his fingers.
But he never used his charm on me; rather I never paid heed to it and now when I did, it swayed me beautifully.
