Chapter 29: Chapter 29
QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND.
"Where were you?" Mika'il asked, his head deep into his hands because Zara has fueled him on their way back home. Even though he doesn't want to doubt Bushra for she's done nothing to give him the impression, Zara's words weren't exactly nice and he stopped her but it has worked nevertheless.
"You see, she said she don't want to go with us because she has other plans. It's not like this is the first time woman mingle with foreigners, it happens all the time. You might not believe me because you think your wife is always innocent but you should know that this is cheating. She didn't tell you about leaving the suite or meeting some other foreigner!" Zara kept rambling on their way home but he kept quite, he has been waiting for Bushra to call him and tell him about her leaving the house but she never did neither has she messaged him.
"I went to the market to shop and then to the coffee shop with a foreigner who helped me with my shopping bags. Why did you ask?" She furrowed her brows, removing her clothes one after the other to change into something warm for the weather has changed suddenly. She wanted to take bath but don't want to freeze to death.
"Oh, but you didn't tell me." He rose his head, relief washing over him that she told him the truth unlike what Zara was referring to. He really should stop her from talking about his wife like this, he despise having this little doubt about his wife. The woman is really good at convincing him, he's never doubted Bushra their whole time together and this is the first time because of a cowife.
"I didn't want to disturb you guys and I shall keep meeting him till our time here is over. I want someone to talk to, I don't want the silence in this suite. Don't worry about me." She gave him a reassuring smile, her eyes twinkling when he narrowed them. She knew he was going to talk about the 'him' she just said. He should calm down, it's not like she is allowed to elope with a non Muslim and get married to him, it's haram.
"It's a man?" He is acting like he didn't see them talking and giggling over coffee but it didn't hurt him now after she told him the truth. Had it been she hid it from him, he'd start suspecting her for no reason. He felt a weight lifted off his shoulder after she's said the truth, for a lie would've ruined their relationship to the limits of no return.
"Yes, his name is Vicky and very nice. He is already obsessed with Anaan like everyone else." She grinned at the mere thought of their daughter and Vicky's reaction to seeing her photos. She's sent him thirty of her pictures but he still wants more, she won't send more for she won't send him all she has, she's possessive over her daughter.
"You are showing our daughter to strangers, should I be worried?" He stood up, his full height looming over her now sweater clad body and sweatpants that are definitely his since she is swallowed in them. He is tired of asking whether she is wearing his clothes or not, there is no doubt those clothes are his. He could only stare at her in disbelieve, half his drawer is now hers.
"We were out of topic so I told him about my almost one year old daughter. And do you know what else I did?" She has a mischievous smile taking over her face and he has no doubt he would enjoy what she was going to tell him. His serious wife likes mischief every now and then, he likes to help.
"I am definitely going to worry about myself this time around." He moved closer to her but have a huge smile on his face. She blinked her eyes innocently at him, playing with the edge of her sweater like a little bairn. He is one lucky man, she is so innocent and beautiful, the sight he would love to see every blessed day after coming back from work. If only he hadn't made the greatest mistake of his life by taking another wife.
"Well, you know Anaam's birthday is coming soon right?" She waited for him to nod before she continued, "I was thinking about making it a theme party, to spice things up you know? I bought a few outfits for everyone and they are definitely going to love it." She grinned, her eyes bouncing to the shopping bags she hid away from him. He won't see them, she his them well this time around.
After breaking the surprise to Mika'il, she is hundred percent sure he would ask for his own or even the others so he will laugh and ruin the fun but she won't show him so she took them to somewhere he won't see in her suite. She won't give anyone their outfit till the day before the birthday so none of them could show it to the other, she wants everyone to look surprised after taking in the other person's clothes. A giggle escaped her lips, it is going to be a fun sight seeing her parents and in-law in English wears. To spice it more, she added huge sunglasses to their outfits.
"Can I see them?" He made a puppy dog eyes, she was ready for it anyways. She knew that was going to be his next words so she also orchestrated her reply the best way she could.
"Oh, no! I haven't collected the clothes yet since they were too many and I won't collect them till the day we are leaving. Besides, our flight back home is late so I will have enough time." She shrugged, her eyes shifting to the bed wanting to escape further interrogation or she might give in easily. Another weakness of hers, a very persistent Mika'il.
"I will find out if you are lying and you shall be punished." With that, he gave her a hard kiss that rendered her breathless then wished her a goodnight before he left her room. She stood there rooted, that kiss is definitely not going to let her rest the whole night. She is hundred and eight sure of it!
She shook her head, her eyes trailed on the door thinking about how peaceful the day has been without having to see or talk to Zara the whole time. She wanted to leave the room but decided against it for bumping into that woman will be the least of moment she wants to occur, not that day at least after she's been away from her stinky self. She could hear them talking in the living room and it sounded intense, she really wanted to eavesdrop but what would that do to her? Listening to wife and husband's conversation and not any other wife, his second wife will only cause more heartache no matter how tricky their situation is. She can't stomach that so she forced sleep to visit her and it did.
The next morning, she didn't wake up after she prayed fajr till around eleven fifty and she can't hear any sound outside the room too. With a happy smile thinking about talking to Vicky some more, she bounced to the bathroom and took a quick bath. She changed into an onyx palazzo, white button down shirt and a black veil around her. She applied small makeup to look much more vibrant like the sunny day outside then she left in a hurry after seeing his text that he is already waiting for her. She didn't wait to check whether there is note for her or breakfast, she can't leave the guy waiting.
And now, this is the last day she was going to see Vicky for they are leaving later that evening. He has sad smile across his lips the whole time they were talking making her heart clench because she finally felt like she's had a friend of her own after a long time. She is never one to make friends herself except if work or school joined them which is why most of her friends are either classmates or clients who became friends. This is something she is going to cherish for the rest of her life, a true friend made by herself even if it is only in a foreign country.
Fayha is going to be proud of her, she's already told her about Vicky and they've talked once or twice during their time together. Fayha also helps her get friends lots of the times even in school, she is the quite antisocial type of person. This is the first time Bushra Amani made a friend, she feels elated inside. But she don't understand something inside her, it feels like she has started liking Vicky for some odd reasons. She can't say it in words but she is feeling it deep in her that could surpass friendship which she needs to distinguish immediately.
Is it the feeling of having someone when she has no one in the foreign place? She can't exactly point it out but she always looks forward to seeing Vicky and spending time with him is thrilling, it makes her hyper and jumpy. She even ignores seeing Mika'il during the night when he comes back with Zara for she's already talked to her heart's content in the afternoon with her best first guy friend. His soothing words always motivate her to cheer up, she looks forward to laughing all the time.
She also didn't see Zara since when she started going out with Vicky, she avoids her like a plague. She don't know whether she's noticed or not but it doesn't matter too, she won't give her the satisfaction of seeing her disheartened just like Vicky advised her to. That is what she is doing, being the bigger woman and the first wife she is supposed to be from the beginning. She's never regretted a decision like she regretted wasting her time coming to beautiful country and not spending each of her time with her husband. She should've stayed home but then, she wouldn't have met such amazing person Vicky.
Utterly wasted!
"I'm going to miss you." His thick New Zealand accent yanked her from her reverie and she smiled unknowingly. Her eyes searched his face seeing how genuine he is about missing her, she can't tell whether she will ever see him again.
"I'll miss you too, Vic. It was great having you, thank you for everything." She smiled, she needs to leave as soon as possible before they miss their flight which is only an hour away. She is going to have to see that woman again, ugh!
"Don't forget to contact me whenever you feel down. I might come down to Nigeria for you, who knows?" He grinned, the sadness is still in his eyes making her wonder whether he feels what she feels. Whether he thinks this is more than mere strangers that met in a foreign country and became friends.
"Come down to Nigeria on what authority? You haven't even gotten the job you wanted yet so don't bother." She giggled when his smile fell but then another determined one took over, she knew what it meant from the time she's spent with him.
"Don't worry, I will do that. This sounds like a challenge and I shall fulfill it." He closed the deal with his two hands then stood up when she did. If she doesn't make a move to leave, she might not leave again and decide to stay there for another week. She has a daughter and family waiting for her back at home and her seven days starts as soon as they get home.
"Don't hold your breathe, Vic." With that, she didn't say goodbye and decided to leave. Saying goodbye will sound final and she don't want to make the man to look lonelier than he already is.
"Is everything packed? Your theme clothing too?" Mika'il questioned the last one because he is still curious about what she bought for everyone, she is being too secretive. He could always breakdown her shells but this time around, he couldn't get her to even talk about it. Is that foreigner changing his wife? Well, they are leaving, fortunately.
"Yes, don't worry." She hurried to the plane not to let him ask her about them. She is hellbent on hiding this from him even when they reach home, he can't seduce her into showing him so she will give one of her brothers to keep it for her.
"It feels like I haven't seen you in ages. Where were you hiding, Sister?" Zara spatted the sister as she sat down close to Bushra in the plane since she don't want to get into the cockpit with Mika'il as Greg isn't there with them. She didn't know that he was going to take over the flight while they go back home till she saw him featuring his frost uniform earlier. Oh well, she hasn't spent quality time with him so she didn't get to ask.
"Far away from Fleabags, you know. I like being alone when there are things to take care of. Besides, my husband never made me feel alone even like that." She shrugged, her eyes searching her nails in that I don't care attitude she knows very well how to act out. Her mother scolds her for doing that in weddings when she was younger, it comes in handy now.
"Hmm, enjoying with the foreigner, huh?" Zara is about to let her mouth lose even after the warning struck to her by Mika'il, she won't let the woman have the last words. She is getting under her skin so spicing up their lives will do both of them good hence her statement.
"Huh?" Bushra is now looking at her in question, her eyes searching for what Zara knows about Vicky. Did Mika'il told her everything she's talked to him about Vicky? Is he that open to her now that they can even talk about her behind her back? She didn't expect him to fall for the woman so soon!
"We saw you in the café the first day with that foreigner who is hopelessly doting over you. Mika'il was really mad at you for not telling him so as soon as he came back, he asked you about it." Zara crossed her arms over her chest feeling superior for keeping her in her lane. She's always wanted to come in between her and her husband, this is her chance.
Bushra stared at Zara knowing she is telling the truth but she could see right through what Zara is trying to do and she won't give her the satisfaction of crumbling her trust in her husband. She understand his panic when he sees her with another man so she smiled, "He is a possessive man who is always protective of the person he loves. He understands everything so I get how jealous he was seeing me with Vicky and don't worry about telling me what has happened between you two again, hmm? Thanks." She turned her head around to stare at the other foreigners around them.
"I just thought you would want to know how pissed he was, that's it." Zara swallowed thick saliva filled with wrath and rage, she is trying extremely hard to keep everything at bay. Her hands are shaking beside her on the armrest for if she let them go, they will land straight on Bushra's neck which means a divorce from Mika'il will hit her before they land back in Nigeria. She took calming breaths, her mind jumbling up at the thought of the trust between the stupid couple. They are pushing her back from ruining them but she won't give up, never.
This is just the start, she'd do her best to keep them away even if she is going to stoop to so many levels below. Everything is going to change especially after they land in Nigeria, she knew that and could feel it in her bones. Mika'il couldn't wait to leave the country not because he didn't like the place but because he can't have his first wife all around him till they get back to Nigeria. She hopes she is already pregnant for the game will only begin then.
