Chapter 39: Chapter 39

"Mummy, uncle Max is here". I heard Whitney say excitedly, and I looked up at the clock hanging on the wall in my room, to get the time. It is already too late, and he should have headed home, but he still chose to come to see me. I should take Mary's advise. I should hurt him with the truth, instead of lying to him, by leading him on, and maybe this should be the best time to do it.

"Hi". I greeted, shutting the gate, so as to meet him outside. He looked surprise at that, because, I would have welcomed him in, but I didn't. It was late, inviting him in, would mean that I wanted him to come and spend time with me, which is the total opposite.

"Hi". He responded, and then I led the way, to his car, while he followed me behind.

"What are you doing here? I asked him, and he raised a brow, to express his surprise.

"Are you really asking me that? You didn't even wait for me, you just left without saying a word. I looked everywhere around the premises for you, before I was told that you had left. You are also not taking your calls, and you expect me not to come here? Plus you have been gloomy, since the boss said you would go with him, when you should actually be happy, and........

"And what? I cut him in. Look Max, I have had a bit of all these. Why should I be happy, going to a place, where I am very sure, my past that I am trying really hard to fight, will be staring me right in the face? Huh, tell me. Why should I want to go to a conference, and even have a presentation done, Infront of the father of the child in my womb. What if I slum? What if I don't do it well, and then I will end up being a laughing stock? He pulls me close in his usual way and cuddled my back.

"I wish I could be there with you, but I was not chosen, but I don't expect you thinking any less of yourself. If you make mistakes, which I am not sure, you will make, it is part of life, and it is only meant, to make you stronger". He was whispering into my ears, and just hearing his voice was breaking my heart the more.

When I could not take it anymore, I almost screamed at him.

"Max, what do you really want from me? I asked him, even when I already know what he wants.

"What is going on? He asked, wondering why I was acting up.

"You are being all sweet and nice and very loving that I really don't know if I deserve it all". He tried pulling me back, so he could tell me how much I deserve every love I was getting, but I refused to be pulled in.

I don't love you Max, (That came out wrong, but I couldn't take it back) I thought I could find that special thing and hold on to it, but I am sorry, I don't love you, and leading you on, would only mean that I am wicked. You need to know where I stand on this issue. I wouldn't want you thinking I am inlove with you, or I will love you, when my heart actually longs for someone else, even though I cannot be with that person, because I am deeply hurt......... I

He didn't let me finish, he took it from me, and blasted out.

"A man who hits you, and even hit your daughter, is the same person, you are loving? I raised my face to look at him and defend myself, that I am not inlove with Edward, but he wouldn't even listen, he was so angry, he got into his car and drove off. I watched, till his car, was no longer in sight. He was sad, and I was also sad, but for different reasons.

Tomorrow I am going to face Craig, and I will also tell him to his face that I don't want anything to do with him.

CRAIG'S POV.

"Boss, he just left, but I could not get what they were talking about, but they seem to be having an argument". My guard, whom I sent to watch her, told me and I suspected that it has something to do with him not chosen to join those representing the company. I had nothing to do with the choosing, it was all Jade, and he told me that it was because of her professional prowess, that he had chosen her to represent, that it has nothing to do with me and her.

I was okay with anyone coming over, but even I was worried that seeing her again, would open the wound in my heart. Sometimes I want to believe that she is just punishing me, but then, she is taking this too far already.

And now, just getting report that though she didn't go home with him, in her usual way, he still went to her house, confirms that they must be into each other.

Maybe she wanted him to join her in the trip and he refused, and that is the reason they were arguing, according to my guard.

Jade also called to tell me what happened, when he told them she would be representing.

Hearing that she didn't want to come, shocked me even more. I am here, dying to see her, while she is busy, hating on me, and wanting to be very far away from me.

I guess I am done trying. I know I wronged her, but the punishment she is giving me, is already too much, so I am going to make her believe I have also moved on.

My parents will be the ones at the conference tomorrow, so she could rest her mind, she won't see me, so there is really no need.

My parents have been the ones that attends the conference, and if only she had been happy about coming, maybe I would have been happy, but hearing that she even told her boss that she didn't want to come, that shows she must really hate me.

Sandra distracted my thought with her call.

"Good evening sir. Sir Anderson just called to cancel, he says he has to be in the state capital tomorrow, which means he won't be able to stay all through the conference, so he called me to let you know. He says, you will be handling the investments sector, so you will award the best presentation, as he would have left, before that time". I hated the news, but since I don't have to be at the conference all day, I could manage. I will just come, award those that should be awarded, then leave.

"You will have to prepare then, you will come with me". I told her. I didn't need to tell her, she is my PA she goes to almost every meeting I go to, but I just had to remind her, because sometimes, she feels I need her to stay back at the office, instead of coming out with me.

"Alright sir". She says and I ended the call, for I could hear the excitement in her voice.
