Chapter 25: Chapter 25

As soon as Celeste reached the hospital she rushed inside. There were a lot of people going inside and coming out of the hospital. Celeste didn’t care about anyone as she rushed inside like a madwoman while praying to God for her grandma's safety. Some people stopped and stared at her but she didn’t care. She reached the reception and finally stopped running. She didn’t know what to do next as she didn’t know on which ward her grandma was admitted. Celeste looked around helplessly and that's when her eyes landed on Flynn, her neighbour and Asher's dad. Without wasting any time Celeste hastily rushed towards him. Flyn also noticed Celeste coming towards him so he excused himself from the nurse he was talking to and made his way towards Celeste.

"Celeste! When did you come?" He asked with a surprised tone, as soon as Celeste covered the distance between them.

"Flynn, where's grandma? How is she? Is she okay? What did the doctor say?" Celeste threw a bunch of question towards him while ignoring his previous question. Flyn heaved a sigh before opening his mouth to answer her.

"She's in the ICU. Her condition is not good, Celeste. You need to get a grip on your heart." Flyn said in a soft voice while keeping a hand on Celeste's shoulder. Celeste looked at him with a blank face and took a step back.

"No! This is not true. You are lying. She was absolutely fine when I left her four days ago. How could this happen. No!" Celeste said while shaking her head repeatedly. She couldn’t believe it. She didn’t want to believe it. Her grandma was absolutely fine the day she left her for Toronto. Then how could her condition become so bad? How?

She didn’t understand what to do next. All she wanted to do was run towards her grandma and bury herself in her lap. She would have stroked her hair gently and whispered that everything would be fine. What would she do without her grandma? She had no one in this world except her. How could she live without her? No!

God couldn’t be this cruel with her, right?

Her grandma would be fine, right?

She wouldn’t live her darling in this cruel world alone, right?

She wouldn’t, right?

"I want to see her, Flyn. Please take me to her. Please!" Celeste begged to Flynn while sobbing helplessly. Flyn who was standing there and watching the poor girl sob helplessly, came forward and pulled her in a fatherly hug. As soon as Flyn wrapped his arms around Celeste, she started to sob more. She felt really helpless and alone. She wished her parents were alive in that moment to comfort her. She wished her grandpa was there to cheer her up.

Why did her grandpa leave her darling all alone? Why was grandma scaring her? Were they not afraid that their darling would get sad? Did they not love her anymore?

Celeste's heart was bursting open with pain. She had last experienced that type of pain when her grandpa died. But that time her grandma was there to comfort her. But what about this time? Who would comfort her now? She had no one and those thoughts made her cry more.

Normally she was a really strong and brave girl but when it came to her loved ones she became really weak. No matter how strong she was she couldn’t tolerate anything bad happening to her loved ones.

"Take me to her, Flyn. Please, I want to see her." Celeste finally stopped crying and pleaded with Flynn to take her to her grandma. Flyn nodded.

"Come with me, dear." He said while leading her the way. Celeste silently followed him with a racing heart and a head full of unwanted thoughts.

When Celeste and Flyn reached the ICU, they saw the doctor coming out of the room with a gloomy look. Celeste rushed towards him hastily to know about her grandma's condition.

"Doctor! How is my grandma? Is she fine?" Celeste asked. Her voice was full of worries and anxiety. The doctor looked at her and paused.

"And you are?" He asked, as if he just didn’t hear her call Marielle her grandma.

"I'm Marielle Rivera's granddaughter. Celeste Rodr-" Celeste paused for a moment before opening her mouth to answer. The doctor looked at her with raised brows and waited for her to finish her sentence. Celeste gulped down the lump that had formed into her throat.

"Celeste Rivera." She finally answered and the doctor nodded.

"Oh I see. I'm doctor Lewis Thomas. You see Miss Rivera, the patient's condition is not very good. She had a stroke this morning and was brought to hospital very late. We are still trying but we can't say anything. Just pray to God and make you-" The doctor couldn’t finish his sentence when a nursed came rushing from the ICU and ran towards him while shouting,

"Doctor! Doctor! Please hurry up and come in. The 243 number got another stoke and isn’t responding." The nurse shouted anxiously making Celeste's heart go totally numb. The doctor hurriedly excused himself and rushed inside the ICU. Meanwhile Flyn's face lost all its colour as he already knew who was patient number 243.

Celeste who had been standing there numbly got her sense back and rushed towards the ICU. She tried to open the ICU door but it was locked. She then moved aside and looked through the glass door. In that room, on a blue bed laid her beloved grandma motionlessly with her eyes closed as the doctor tried to bring her back to life. Her eyes stayed at the heart monitor which was beeping loudly and in a moment it went straight. She couldn’t look away from the monitor. Her mind slowly went black as she kept staring at the room. Slowly the doctor gave up and looked at each other helplessly as a sad expression covered their face. One of the nurses came forward and covered her precious grandma's whole body with white clothes.

Weren't they afraid that her grandma might have trouble while breathing?

She saw everything while standing there motionlessly. She didn’t even realise when the doctor came out and took of his face mask.

"I'm sorry. We tried our best but she couldn’t make it" The doctor said with a gloomy expression. Celeste didn’t say anything, just looked at him blankly. Before the doctor could excuse himself or say anything Celeste's eyes closed and she collapsed on the floor before drifting into pure darkness.

The whole time she had only one thing running throughout her head.

She's gone.

She didn’t say a goodbye.

She didn’t let her say a goodbye.
