Chapter 38: Chapter 38

I eyed Asher in disbelief. Is he kidding? What did he mean by well-prepared with him dressed in pajamas? Especially after the party is over?

My eyes lit up. Does he mean that he'll be teaching me how to fight? "Asher?" I stared at him curiously.

"Teacher." Asher conveyed with a serious smirk before continuing. "Starting tomorrow at 4:00 am, we'll start hard drilling." He articulated domineeringly.

My eyes widened. The hell!

"Hope I'm clear?" Asher proclaimed strictly. His playboy's expression had already disappeared without a trace, which illustrates how serious he is.

I nodded my head. "Yes, teacher." I concurred while questioning myself if I'd made the right decision by asking Asher to be my teacher.

On a further note, I couldn't help thinking that his decision must've been fueled by tonight's encounter. What if it wasn't Rex this time, and it was an enemy? I subconsciously shivered at the thought.

I'm still weak; I need to hurry up with my growth.

Rex had identified me easily even though we'd been separated for years; what if someone else recognized me next time? And that person turned out to be an enemy. Not to mention the fact that Filippa is someone the Power Axis Pack seems to know.

"Cold?" Oswald suddenly asked, and immediately I shivered. He touched my forehead as if to check my temperature.

I shook my head to signify that I wasn't, and he nodded.

"I'm leaving. I'll reach you." Rex conveyed to me seriously, and I nodded to him.

"I'll wait. Bye Rex." I bid him with a smile on my face.

"Bye." Rex's hand ran through his hair, and without warning, his figure dashed into the forest. Within a few seconds, he was gone.

Seeing Rex leave, Oswald stared back at me with different, complex emotions I couldn't decipher. "How many secrets are you holding? Your identity doesn't seem simple to me. You're not just that simple girl, are you?" He asked

Had tonight's event not happened, they might have believed that Maia was an ordinary girl, but seeing me affiliated with Rex might have caused a lot of thoughts. After all, the vampire and werewolf clans don't see eye to eye. Does that mean he'll send me out?

"Do you intend to kick me out now?" I uttered sarcastically and crossed my arms, my eyes fixated on him.

"Don't start now, Maia," Oswald growled at me, but with a helpless tone that made me sigh.

I knew Oswald was a good person, or else seeing me close to a vampire and letting me return to his pack was something no one would accept because that's a danger on its own. He might even use that to make me fail the trial.

I sighed and stared at him seriously. I realized that I should be the one thanking him; instead, I've been the one... "Thank you. I'm sor…"

Before I could complete my world, Oswald placed me in Wyatt's embrace and dashed into the forest. Before I could blink, his figure had disappeared.

I sighed and began to chide myself. Why am I so stupid?

To be truthful, Oswald had done a lot of things to me. Even when it comes to the mysterious test, there is leniency involved with it, yet I'm always messing things up due to my trust issues and others.

Is this how stupidly I'll be acting when I take my throne? Oh, goddess! My heart ached at the thought.

I hope Oswald will be fine. He's an Alpha; he should be.

'Pfft! Always messing things up.' Maia snorted at me playfully, which made me roll my eyes.

'Do you have to ridicule me every chance you got?' I retorted.

'It's not my fault you always mess up,' she shrugged.

"Are you okay?" Wyatt suddenly asked in a gentle tone, which snapped me out of my reverie. His voice had now reverted to its usual coldness.

"I'm fine," I responded truthfully. Although we all knew I was fine and the drug had worn out, I don't understand why they kept carrying me. "Will Oswald be fine?" I asked in concern.

"He'll." Wyatt nodded firmly, and that made me sigh in relief.

Suddenly, Wyatt's right hand fell on the part of my forehead where Rex's kiss was, and he stared at it with a frown.

Without warning, Wyatt leaned forward and placed a deep kiss on that part of my forehead, as if to remove the trace of Rex on my forehead.

My heart skipped, and I froze at the sudden kiss.

My mind began to replay the scene of Wyatt leaning to kiss me with a gentle expression on his face, and the more I recalled, the faster my heart pounded.

I felt my face grow hot, but that only made his eyes fixate on me. My hands flew toward my flushing face to cover it. I wanted to hide from his black eyes, which seemed to stare deep into my soul. "W…"

"Here's your cellphone." Wyatt suddenly said, which made my eyes fly wide open. I didn't notice that he had been holding a box—a cellphone box. "It's the latest edition." He conveyed calmly and handed it to me.

My eyes lit up in excitement. I've been wishing to have one, and just like my cool crush's act, he got me this. "Oh. Thank you." I said while staring at his hand, which still held me tightly.

"I'll take my leave," I whispered, even though I knew that he'd be the one to take me to my hostel.

"She's not that girl who she claims to be, is she?" Wyatt suddenly asked me, and that made me fall silent.

Although I knew I couldn't escape the question, I still didn't know what else to do.

"You know the vampire lord." He repeated and that made my eyes widen in shock.

Is he talking about Rex? How can Rex be?

"Rex is now the vampire lord?" I repeated, my shock obvious in my voice, and that made Wyatt stare into my eyes as if he were searching for something.

After a few seconds, he broke our contact and began to dash toward my hostel. Within seconds, we're back in my hostel. "We are here. Sleep well." He rubbed my head and said.

"You too," I replied, and he nodded before placing me on my feet.

I took a step toward the hostel, but after taking the third step, I paused and turned to stare at him seriously. “Don't work too hard, and always catch enough sleep.”

Wyatt tucked his hand into his palm and nodded seriously as if to tell me that he'd take my words seriously. "En."

Under his stare, I entered the hostel, and the hostel security locked the door. Having no choice, I walked toward my room.

“Maia.” Immediately I entered, Arya hugged me tightly with vivid relief.

I felt so uncomfortable under her hug, but upon remembering the reason she was knocked out, I tried to stay still while fighting the urge to get out of her hug.

I stiffly raised my hand and rubbed her shoulder. "Arya. I'm sor…"

"Are you fine? You're not injured by those stupid kidnappers, are you?" Arya parted from me and began to fuzz over me like a mother hen.

A trace of warmth slowly seeped into my heart and the discomfort I was feeling disappeared without a trace. I nodded to Arya, and she sighed. "I wasn't, thank you. You?"

Arya shook her head to tell me 'no' and she plopped on my bed. "That's a relief. You don't know how worried I am." She muttered with vivid worries in her clear eyes.

"It's fine. I'm sorry for worrying you." I replied, and she nodded to me.

Arya stood up and began to walk up the stairs that led to her bed. As soon as she did, she lay on her bed while I sat on my bed and began to carefully unpack my new phone.

"I just talked to my brother, and he said they've dealt with the enemy." Arya suddenly uttered and that made me pause my actions. I guess Wyatt doesn't want to tell her the truth. After all, letting something like that out will pose a risk to my stay.

"Yes."

Arya hissed and sighed. "I wonder what they were thinking by trying to enter the Power Axis Pack school to kidnap a student. Obviously dumb." She remarked.

Not wanting to make the mistake of revealing the truth to Arya, I yawned and replied, "It's been a long night. I feel so sleepy."

Arya also stopped tapping on her phone and said, "Yeah. Go sleep. I feel tired also." Accompanying Arya's words was the sound of Arya placing the blanket on herself.

I sighed in relief and lay on the bed, my new phone in my hand. I threw the blanket on my body and turned on my cell phone, but because I hadn't used one before, it felt strange operating it.

"Arya, can you help me with my phone setting tomorrow?" I whispered, not sure if she was asleep or not.

"Finally! You're willing to ask me for something. Thank goddess." Arya exaggerated.

I roll my eyes at her exaggeration.
