Chapter 61: Chapter 61
Zhuang Xiaoxi’s surprised voice came through the speaker, and even from a distance, one could imagine her shocked expression.
"When did this happen? When did he come back?"
Su Lingzhi replied, "After the last banquet ended."
"You forgave him so quickly?"
At this, Su Lingzhi remembered the phone blocking incident, "Xiaoxi, did you block his number?"
The other end went silent, as if feeling guilty.
"Sorry, Zhizhi, I did block him. After that call ended, your emotions were so intense, I thought Fu Yinli said something heartless to you, the doctor scolded me, saying you shouldn’t be stimulated, so I secretly blocked his number for you."
"And my phone, was that you too?"
"I didn’t touch your phone," Zhuang Xiaoxi vowed solemnly. "Your phone blocked him too?"
Su Lingzhi didn’t dwell on it further, "I just want to understand the situation, can you inform me of such things in the future."
The other end, Zhuang Xiaoxi, apologized, "Okay, I promise there won’t be a next time."
"But, Zhizhi, what about your engagement with the Jiang Family? What about Jiang Chenglin?"
Su Lingzhi paused. Since the banquet, she hadn’t seen him, with things turning out this way, he probably resents her a lot.
"This is my fault to him."
"Forget it, the situation’s a mess, whatever choice you make, I’ll support you."
As soon as she finished, faintly strange noises could be heard from the other side.
Something about a patient... doctor...
Unclear and ambiguous.
"Xiaoxi, aren’t you at the hotel? How come I hear someone calling for a doctor?"
"I’m at the hotel watching a series, it’s the TV," Zhuang Xiaoxi hurriedly ended the call, "Zhizhi, I won’t talk with you now, my brother is calling."
The call was hung up.
Su Lingzhi held her phone, not sure why, but something felt off.
By the afternoon, a maid came to inform, "Miss, your friend has arrived, would you like to see them? The surname is Jiang."
Hearing this, Su Lingzhi’s face instantly darkened, she stepped onto the blind path and entered the living room.
When she rented this villa, Jiang Chenglin followed, naturally knowing the place, she just didn’t expect him to come around.
As Su Lingzhi reached the sofa, she heard his footsteps walking in.
She could feel his presence, yet didn’t know what to say.
After dismissing the maid, the living room instantly fell into a heavy silence.
She broke the silence, "Why did you come here?"
"To see how you’re doing." Follow current novels on novelfire.net
Jiang Chenglin sat across from her, noticing a pack of cigarettes on the table.
Not only the pack of cigarettes, but the leather shoes on the shoe rack, and the black suit hung on the armrest all indicated a man lived there.
"You’re living with him?"
Su Lingzhi nodded without any avoidance, "Brother Chenglin, I’m very sorry for troubling your family because of me, and thank you for taking care of me this past half month."
Jiang Chenglin gazed at her calm, emotionless amber eyes, let out a cold laugh, "Apologies and thanks, who wants to hear any of that?"
Su Lingzhi fell silent, feeling awkward.
Jiang Chenglin frowned tightly, then continued, "As soon as he comes back, he doesn’t even return home. What is it about him that makes you so devoted to following him?"
Su Lingzhi closed her eyes lightly, speaking coolly, "I’ve fallen for him, but it’s not to the point of being devoted yet."
"He probably didn’t tell you why he stayed in England for so many years and didn’t come back, right?"
Su Lingzhi didn’t respond.
She knew very little about Fu Yinli, but she didn’t want to hear his past from someone else’s mouth either.
"Fu Yinli was groomed by Fu Rongzeng since childhood to be a successor..."
"Brother Chenglin," Su Lingzhi interjected, stopping him, "No matter where you heard these things, I don’t want to hear them. I believe that one day he will tell me his past himself."
Jiang Chenglin’s words caught in his throat, watching her, conflicted.
In the midst of their standoff, Su Lingzhi spoke, "Brother Chenglin, I only consider you a friend, no matter what path Yinli and I take in the future, I won’t regret the decision I’m making now, let alone..."
Su Lingzhi took a deep breath, "With the way things have gone with your Jiang family, there’s no possibility between us anymore."
Jiang Chenglin sarcastically remarked, "With things , are you satisfied?"
"I..." Su Lingzhi was tongue-tied.
The situation was caused by her, and it was the result of her insistence, so she didn’t want to argue anymore.
If she didn’t like someone, she wouldn’t, her rejection remained firm and clear, even when it escalated to families.
Jiang Chenglin looked away, facing those eyes with no focus, ultimately feeling compassion, unwilling to hurt her, "Since you’ve made such a firm choice, I won’t cling on to you, but in the future, if you encounter any difficulty, you can come to me if you consider me a friend."
"Okay." Su Lingzhi was touched, sincerely grateful for his care these days.
There was something she wanted to know, "Brother Chenglin, did you touch my phone?"
Jiang Chenglin’s expression froze, a hint of guilt flashed through.
He didn’t answer for a long time, obviously admitting.
The answer was clear, it was he who used her phone to block Fu Yinli.
"Tampering with someone’s phone without permission lacks gentlemanly demeanor; don’t let it happen again." Her tone was gentle, with no intention of blaming him in her words, only forgiveness.
Perhaps this could be considered tit for tat.
Jiang Chenglin observed her charming face, mostly attracted by her strong and lively character, making it hard for him to let go.
Even knowing she had someone she liked, he was unwilling to give up, wanting her back by any means.
But now he realized, excessive entanglement would only cause further aversion, especially with the Fu Family involved.
"You don’t blame me?" he asked.
"I did." Su Lingzhi admitted honestly, "Yinli misunderstood, thinking I blocked him out of spite and was entangled with you, hence leading to everything that followed. Now that the misunderstanding between him and me is resolved, I’ve let it go."
Jiang Chenglin sneered once, "Ultimately, your heart is only for him, caring only about his feelings."
As soon as she started speaking, he interrupted impatiently, "Forget it, I don’t care about your matters; it’s my unrequited, self-inflicted misery, and I’m not desperate for you either."
With that said, Jiang Chenglin got up, "I’m leaving first, take care of your injury, I’ll visit you another day."
Su Lingzhi swallowed her words, "I’ll see you off."
"No need." With that, he stepped away.
The conversation didn’t appear to be particularly pleasant, yet the lingering atmosphere was subtly complex.
After a while of stillness, Su Lingzhi returned to the courtyard alone to brew tea.
