Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Woo.... Friday! I love Friday it's the beginning of the weekend plus school is only half the normal time and not to forget this is the only day when I actually wake up before my alarm goes off. It is a rare occasion for my mind to wake up before the alarm rings but it is like my mind has a reset button whenever it is a Friday. Sadly, whatever happens on Friday does not happen on a Monday. I quickly unfold myself from the bed and walk into the bathroom, slowly brushing my teeth while I wait for the bath to fill up. I do have the time to take my precious time. I take a brisk bath dress up in a black dress that ends right above my knees and black shoes crested with the Nike logo. I grab a jumper just in case it gets cold. And believe me, I might actually need the jumper, the weather is very unpredictable at times.
I head downstairs and find Allan waiting for me with a coat in his hands, seems we had the same idea about the weather. I say good morning to the people who are gathering around to have their breakfast and smile when I notice that Dylan is not yet here, judging by the tiresome night he had last night, I doubt if he is going to be coming down soon. He had to help my dad with a lot of formal stuff since we are a new pack here and there are still a lot of things that need to be settled. Am I a bad sister for seeing my brother stressed and breaking a sweat?
I walk up to Allan after grabbing a chocolate bar from one of the cabinets in the kitchen. It is surprising that my snacks are still intact after last night. I would have expected Allan and Dylan to snoop around and eat my food but I guess they were both too busy to even torture my delectable.
"Morning." I greet him.
“Morning." He says. "Let's go shall we?" He says.
"Wait a moment, I haven't had my breakfast." I whine.
I really don't appreciate the idea of going to school, hungry. I don't really let anything go when it comes to food. Plus I really tend to get grumpy when I'm hungry, Allan knows this so I do not expect him to force me into going to school on an empty stomach. But since my best friend loves being early, I do not think I am going to be having breakfast today if I am not persistent.
"Do you ever think of anything else apart from always having something in your mouth and chewing?" He says with a look of disbelief on his face. It came out more of a statement than that of a question.
"Mm, I don't know but mostly food is on my mind." I say while walking to the kitchen with a small smile.
“I wonder why you're not fat yet." Says Allan as he follows behind me. "We are going to be late." I was waiting for him to add that statement.
"I promise we won't be late, I did wake up early.” I smile at him, giving him the widest smile I can muster. “Why are you so eager to get to school? We still have thirty minutes." I state.
I carefully grab the plate that has the contents of my breakfast. I'm pretty sure mother made these pancakes, she makes the best pancakes and she always makes sure she leaves the syrup and whipped cream where we can find it easily. She always wakes up early on Fridays because father and her have these pack meetings on Fridays mostly. So she always prepares breakfast and leaves some for all of us knowing Allan and I wake up early for school then Dylan the total opposite, he wakes up late every Friday and Saturday. He always teases me about school because he knows I hate it.
Dylan has been a bit busy lately, learning all the things he needs to know about being an Alpha and he seems enthusiastic about it too, I mean as far as enthusiasm can go. I look up at Allan who looks refreshed and full of life despite being as busy as Dylan, god knows how he manages to balance everything in his life. He's really going to make a great Beta. Dylan is also going to be a great Alpha one day but he doesn't quite make a great big brother, ugh that boy, he is always a pain in the ass but I wouldn't trade him for anything except for food especially a box of pizza or burritos.
"I'm only rushing you because we have to pick up Lydia. She called last night and said that her ride has some sort of problem and she needs a ride." Says Allan, informing me about Lydia's situation.
I chew on the pancakes calmly giving Allan a nod to assure him that we will not be late. Does this guy love school that much? Upon finishing my pancakes I wipe my hands and clean my face. I smile up at him and stand up. I wipe my hands on my dress after placing the plate in the dishwasher.
"Let's go." I tell Allan whose been looking at me devour my pancakes for the last five minutes.
He nods and leads the way to the outside and I follow behind him. We get into his car and off we go to pick up Lydia luckily her house is in the same direction as the school so we do not have to take a lot of time otherwise Allan is going to kill me if we are to even be a nanosecond as late that's how much the guy cherishes school. Within less than ten minutes we arrive at Lydia's house and she's running from the door to the car with her hands full with papers and a bag, I'm guessing the papers are her assignments and she was just recently finishing up.
Allan gets out of the car and opens the door for her to enter, she gives him a thankful look and enters and Allan closes the door and within a second he's already in his seat, driving -what a school lover he is. Lydia gives me a greeting and I reply with a smile and wave. We arrive at school with ten minutes to spare. We decide to go to class and just wait until it's time for classes to begin. We walk into class and sit. We're talking while Lydia is still going through her assignments and Allan is telling her that her assignments are just okay. I've got two nerdy friends so what.
"Lydia. Your work is okay stop stressing." Says Allan trying to get Lydia from going through her work for the tenth time
"I just don't know. I feel like I've missed something." Lydia says defending her actions.
"Lord please help us.” I groan. "You two have been at this since we got here, will you just qu-" I say before being interrupted by a deep husky voice behind me and by the looks on Allan and Lydia's faces I can tell it's not a person I would look forward to talking to.
"Aleisa." The voice calls out to me.
I turn around to see the person and my eyes land on none other than Alex, Isaac's best bud. I guessed they were best friends because I normally see them together. In the food court, gym, basketball court practically everywhere. And from his scent I could tell his a wolf. I can tell you that this school is filled with humans but at times I smell scents of wolves around and his scent is one of them.
"Yes." I say calmly, keeping eye contact.
He looks at me, I'm guessing his thinking "so this is my friend's mate” or something in the line of "she looks like a nightmare come alive" I can't really blame him though I just love black.
"Um....can I please have a word with you?" He says, nervousness laced in his voice.
"Sure, what do you have to say?" I reply with a smile trying to sound unbothered by his presence.
I do not know what to expect from him, his best friend had already done harm to me and I am not ready if he wants to make it worse and add injury to the wounds. He looks at me with a bit of hope flashing in he's eyes. The relief on his face when I reply is evident as if he was expecting me to disagree.
"I mean...like just the two of us." He informs while rubbing the back of his neck.
I look at him with uncertainty. Can I really have a talk with Isaac's best bud in private I mean obviously he wants to talk about Isaac and me but I don't want to talk about him? I see the uncertain look and Allan’s tense shoulders from the corner of my eye and I only hope that he does not get involved.
"Please." He pleads obviously noticing my uncertainty.
"Fine." I breathe out.
I stand up, letting Alex lead the way outside the class. The hallways still have a few people grabbing stuff from their lockers. I follow behind Alex who seems to be leading us to the basketball court. He finally stops when he sits on a bench besides the court and gestures for me to sit down. I eye the surroundings warily and hope that he does not want to abduct me or anything. My eyes settle on the bleachers that are empty and I sigh after my eyes scan the area. I gently sit down next to him, hoping this talk won't take long. He stays quiet for a while, then he takes in a sharp long breath. We still have approximately five minutes before the bell rings.
"Look, you probably know why I want to ta..."
"I know it's about Isaac so just say what you want to say because I want to go to class." I cut him off though the last part is a lie. I don't want to step into the hell they formally call as 'class'.
"Okay." He says calmly trying to put together the right words. "Isaac, I've known him since we were kids, mostly because we are in the same pack and I'm his beta." He informs before stopping again.
Wow the fucking guy is an Alpha and this guy sitting next to me is a beta, what the hell are they still doing here, if I was an Alpha which I'm not I wouldn't even step a foot in this hell, I'd be in an office pretending to do Alpha duties. I've always sensed the amount of power that surrounds them I just never expected it I guess. I knew that Isaac is an Alpha on first glance but it is a whole different situation with Alex. How did I not notice the amount of power he emanates?
"Go on." I tell Alex who obviously seems to be lost at words.
"Well, I know what he did to you. The fact that he rejected you indirectly and that it hurt you a lot." He says stopping again. "I just want to inform you that he didn't mean it, he was just a little confused if I may say at finding his mate."
"Well your Alpha should have thought about the consequences and he's already told me about his confusion and to say the truth it's not convincing at all." I retort trying my best to keep calm especially since I have heard this before and I have no reason to believe it.
"I get that it's not convincing but Aleisa, Isaac has never wanted to meet his mate he.."
"That doesn't make sense, who doesn't want to me..." I say before being cut off
"Hey chill let me finish." Says Alex cutting me off.
I huff then give him a nod to continue.
"So what I was saying was he had all the reason to never expect a mate and I think I'll let him tell you the reason." He says taking in a deep breath.
"So if you are not going to tell me the reason why did you call me out?" I ask. I am growing very impatient because of this.
"It's sort of his job to inform you but I called you out here to just give him a chance. He's been hurting and I know he can't admit it but his wolf isn't really giving him the satisfaction of being away from you." He says and I see the pity and hurt flash in his eyes.
"I don't know." I whisper. My thoughts are all jumbled up and I do not know what to do anymore.
"I know but please just try this whole thing." He says while scratching the back of his neck.
I look at him wondering whether I should trust him or not. In my defense he's Alpha-best friend is an asshole.
"Please. Aleisa. Please." He pleads. The amount of concern he has for his best friend makes me want to praise him.
"Okay." I huff, letting out a sigh.
"Thank you." He says.
I stand up and leave Alex who is now sitting with his head in his hands. He loves his best friend that much to try and convince his mate to forgive him. But this talk just gives me more other thinks to think about and ponder on. The “confusion” excuse did not make any sense but the amount of sincerity in Alex’s words have me wondering if I am missing something. What the freaking hell could be the reason to reject someone who is entirely made for you?
It does not make any sense, but I might end up with a headache if I dwell on this for too long. I sigh and walk to class dreading the fact of learning.
