Chapter 30: Chapter 30

ELIZABETH'S POV

Today is the day scheduled for Clinton to have his surgery for his eyes. He can now walk properly without much assistance from his walking stick or anyone.

I made sure I got all that he would be needing in his stay at the hospital. The surgery was booked to hold at noon. I'm sure they were expecting me to stay fully home and wait for them to return but I had other plans in my head.

I just wanted to ensure the surgery went well, once I confirmed that, I would peacefully take my little belongings and leave quietly before they get back.

"All you would be needing has been packed sir," I said to Clinton after I finished preparing him.

"Thank you," he replied quietly. He looked like he had other things in mind to say to me but was holding back.

"Is there another thing you would want me to do for you, sir?" I asked to be sure.

"Uh...no...no at all, I'm okay. Thanks."

"Then, I should wish you well for your surgery today, Safe surgery, sir."

He looked up towards me, I knew he couldn't see me but he had his face fixed at me.

"Thanks… I mean thanks for everything and I...truly…"

"Son, are you ready? Doctor Ken just called and we should get going," Ms Smith said entering Clinton's room.

Clinton was saying when his mother came in and cut him off. She threw a glance at me before she went to Clinton and caressed his hair in a bid to strengthen it.

I bored my head slightly in greeting and left the room.

"Come on, let's leave now," Ms Smith said, helping Clinton up. She led Clinton into the car. It wasn't long before Mr Smith came to join them. He was still running around and trying to handle his company's issues but he knew he needed to be there for his son's surgery and abandoned it for a while.

WRITER'S POV

"Where's she?" Clinton asked as the car hit the road.

"She? And who is she?" Ms Smith asked and feigned not knowing what Clinton was saying.

"I mean Elizabeth, she said she would be there for my surgery,"

"Oh she did? Yeah, she did but she is home now and don't worry son, you would be able to see and that's the most important thing, okay?"

Clinton didn't say another word but he felt like something wasn't right. He couldn't tell what or why he was feeling that way but he felt strange.

He decided to just ignore the strange feelings he was having and focus on his surgery. He was excited and had been since doctor Ken confirmed that he could perform the surgery now and even went on to tell him he had more than a fifty percent chance to recover his sight.

Just thinking about it is enough to get him excited but he really doesn't know how to show his excitement. Now, he would be able to see all that he hadn't seen for a while and also get back to his life. The past few months have made him feel like a prisoner, although a special one. Only difference was that he wasn't chained nor was he locked up physically and could also see the sky when he wants but not being able to do anything on his own felt like he was a prisoner.

Elizabeth came to his mind at that moment. He was glad that finally he would see her again. This time he swore to treat her right and never hurt her. He wondered if she still had grudges against him and also how best to apologize properly to her and also thank her.

He would have never believed in his entire life that Elizabeth would put up the bravery she did on that day. Right before his eyes, he saw someone ready to give up her life for his sake but that single act of hers broke him actually because it kept taunting him.

How on earth was he supposed to feel having the same person he hated and nearly killed save his life. She not only saved him there and risked her life but she also stayed with him while everyone else took to their heels. Who does that

He has wished over a hundred times that the clock hands be returned but it was something that could never happen. But since he can't undo what has already been done, he might as well try to make things right as soon as he can.

The fifteen minutes drive to the hospital finally came to an end as we alighted from the car. A nurse welcomed us and showed us the room we should stay in until the surgery time.

"Hello, sir, I am nurse Kiki and I am here to take care of you and make sure you are comfortable," a nurse said to me once the one that ushered us in left.

"Thank you my dear," Ms Smith said, handing her the things they came with.

The nurse looked surprised and confused, "Errrm, ma'am, I meant relating to the hospital and his health. You can place these over there."

"Oh, no help around her for things like this?" Ms Smith asked slightly irritatedly that she would do work like that when a help could easily get it done.

The nurse replied negatively with a smile that only infuriated Ms Smith the more before she gave them a few instructions before leaving.

"I should have brought Elizabeth along then if I had known this hospital didn't have help," Ms Smith said, almost angry.

Clinton remained calm. He had always known his mother to be someone who detested having to work for anything. He only blamed his sight that he couldn't use it; if not that, he wouldn't be there at first.

He prayed that things would go well so he would be able to use his eyes and also be able to take care of himself and do things he had always done in the past but the lack of eyes restricted him.
