Chapter 368: Chapter 368
Compared to TMs, Move Tutors were cheaper and less comprehensive. But with how quickly his Pokémon could learn new moves, Lu Ye figured a new one would take no time at all.
“Mystical Fire” could broaden Sylveon’s offensive typing. And based on the "teach-then-learn" principle, Togepi would probably pick it up quickly too.
Lu Ye glanced at Gengar, who had already stuffed the Move Tutor disc into the Item Pouch. A bead of cold sweat ran down his temple.
Uh-oh… the house might catch fire again.
As a third-place prize, a Move Tutor was in line with Yuhong Department Store’s generosity. Still—
The champion prize of Leftovers, or even the runner-up’s one-year supply of Berries— Either would’ve been easier for Mr. Lu to accept than Mystical Fire.
Today’s luck was just not it…
Lu Ye let out a tired sigh. Even third place wasn’t enough to escape fate’s manipulation.
Amid the crowd’s cheers, Marnie humbly waved to the audience—claiming her fourth consecutive championship.
Ali, the poor girl from Sinnoh, left satisfied with a full belly, ready to return home content.
Lu Ye, meanwhile, found the busy Rocket trio backstage and greeted them.
“I’ll transfer the remaining event funds to your account.” He reminded them seriously: “No catching Pikachu! This is to kick-start the Indigo Conference project!”
“Don’t worry—it’s all on us, meow~”
Brock had also wrapped up his chef gig. Wiping sweat off his brow, he waved at Lu Ye: “Heading back to Saffron? Let’s go together!”
Lu Ye nodded and muttered, “I wonder how Surge’s renovations are coming along…”
“Wanna stop by and check?”
“He did say he’d cover all the repairs.” Lu Ye looked surprised. “No worries, the League will probably reimburse him too.”
Brock: “Sounds about right!”
“Then… I’ll take my leave as well,” Marnie said softly.
She planned to take a ferry back to Olivine’s port and return to her lighthouse reading routine.
As night fell, Ampharos’s light would shimmer across the ocean. She’d listen to the waves against the rocks while flipping through a poetry collection— This was her most peaceful time.
Though… when it got really late, she always ended up scrolling past Mr. Lu’s cooking videos.
With the Glutton King event over, Lu Ye had bagged two badges in a row, finishing his quest instantly. It nearly made him gasp.
He also scored a Move Tutor. Compared to Arcanine’s Flamethrower, Mystical Fire was better suited to a Fairy-type like Sylveon.
While not a huge damage dealer, Lu Ye figured Sylveon could enchant her ribbons with Mystical Fire and combine it with a Reckless Charge...
Lu Ye’s eye twitched. Holy crap—Sylveon’s basically about to learn Flare Blitz?!
He boarded the train back to Saffron City with Brock and the others.
Before heading home, Lu Ye swung by the Pokémon Center.
“Sirfetch’d’s shield is considered part of its body,” Nurse Joy explained kindly. “Once it hears Chansey’s Heal Bell, it should regenerate quickly!”
Lu Ye raised a brow. So the leek really is the body, huh?
Lu Ye collected his fully pampered Poké Balls and stepped out into the street.
Behind him, Nurse Joy sighed, muttering to herself: “Put away the club, Chansey. Mr. Lu isn’t a bad guy.”
“Chanseyy~” Chansey returned the spiked club—taller than she was—back into storage with a sweet smile.
Joy cradled her cheek, sighing again. Though… if Mr. Lu was a bad guy, maybe that’d be kinda nice too…
Back at home, Lu Ye began inspecting the Keystone he’d just received.
Lu Ye rubbed his temples with a sigh. “First things first: I need to make sure this thing doesn’t go out of control…”
The crystal-clear gemstone shimmered with multicolored light— A radiant glow pulsed from within.
Keystone: Contains the power of emotions. When linked with a Mega Stone, enables Mega Evolution. (Maaa-ga Evolution!!)
Using Aura, Lu Ye could feel the immense energy sealed inside.
“Karmeh!” Blastoise blinked.
Inside his shell, the Blastoiseite—which he used as a heart-guard—began to heat up. Feeling the power surging from it, Blastoise misunderstood.
Master… has such intense Aura now!?
A bead of sweat rolled down Blastoise’s forehead. If I don’t train hard… I might not even be able to beat Master anymore!
Meanwhile, Lu Ye quickly set the Keystone down, eyes wide.
Holy crap—I nearly triggered Mega Evolution just by touching it?!
How compatible am I with this thing?!
Even while panicking, Lu Ye subconsciously patted himself on the shoulder.
“Gengarr!” Gengar hovered over curiously, ogling the Keystone.
“I’ll get one for you too,” Lu Ye said offhandedly.
Trainers could use Keystones. Why not his Gengar?
The rainbow-tinted Keystone glowed with raw power. His little Pokémon, curious, all gathered close.
Lu Ye sat cross-legged in the center of the rug, arms folded. His six little partners circled him, staring intently at the Keystone on the floor.
“I need a Keystone accessory first…” Lu Ye stroked his chin.
Otherwise, if the energy flared up by accident, Blastoise might Mega Evolve on the spot!
Keystone accessories regulate the stone’s energy and let Trainers choose when to trigger Mega Evolution.
Like Steven’s Keystone lapel pin, or Diantha’s Keystone necklace…
Most of the time, they were wristbands or bracelets. But this was a style moment—no way Lu Ye would miss that!
“You got any ideas?” he asked Gengar.
“Gengarr!” Gengar pointed to his tongue. Lemme lick it real quick.
“...Forget it.” Lu Ye decided to ask Professor Oak to help modify one.
The stone’s origin was easy to explain: Just say he got it from the Donghuang League.
Keystone accessories came in all kinds of designs.
Steven’s stylish lapel pin was iconic. But Lu Ye had plenty of flashy options too:
Keystone belt. Keystone light staff. Keystone ghost mask…
Imagine this: He slaps his belt, or flips a switch— BOOM! Mega Evolution light show explodes—
Although the vibe might be a little much, Lu Ye cleared his throat. “Let’s just stick with the classic Keystone glove…”
Turns out, he still had an Insulated Glove on hand. Embedding the Keystone into it would make a perfect accessory.
Suddenly, Lu Ye had a thought.
He asked his unreliable system: “Can I modify the glove—like, add more gemstone slots?”
Since system gear could adapt in size, like Squirtle’s shades still fitting Blastoise…
Even if it didn’t have extra slots, it couldn’t hurt to ask, right?
Sadly, the system didn’t seem to offer that kind of customer support.
But it did adjust the Insulated Glove slightly—enough to hold the Keystone.
“Good enough,” Lu Ye muttered.
He slotted the Keystone into the glove’s groove.
Ash’s Z-Ring had been modified by Tapu Koko. Maybe when he visited Alola, he could ask Tapu Koko to help mod in more sockets.
Lu Ye slid on the fingerless glove— The rainbow-colored Keystone at its center sparkled.
“Gengarr~ (¯﹃¯)” Gengar drooled.
Man… I really wanna lick that.
“Byii?” Sylveon tilted her head, tapping the Keystone gently with a ribbon.
Lu Ye scratched his head. “Maybe it needs a signature pose, then shout Mega—”
Suddenly, a whirlwind burst from Blastoise’s body— Aura flared so violently it nearly tore the ceiling apart.
Lu Ye shut up instantly. Blastoise’s Mega Evolution stopped just in time.
“Karmeh?” Blastoise blinked, scratching his head.
Lu Ye looked conflicted.
Better find an open space to test Mega Evolution later…
Otherwise, if he accidentally shouted the trigger in his sleep— That’d be disastrous.
Still—he hadn’t expected Mega Evolution to be this easy.
Lu Ye raised an eyebrow.
Snap his fingers— BOOM—Mega.
Isn’t this even cooler than Boruto?
