Chapter 175: Chapter 175
Sienna picked up the clothes beside her and held Evan in her arms.
"Mommy, why are you getting dressed so late?"
"We’re going to the Quinn Family home."
"The Quinn Family home?"
Evan paused, Quinn Family home? Grandma’s place?
Mommy doesn’t like those people very much, right? So why are we going to the Quinn Family home today? Evan felt a surge of confusion but obediently put on his clothes. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ novel·fıre·net
Landon did not drive back to the company, nor did he return to the villa; instead, he went directly to the IT company.
As soon as he entered, he saw the man from earlier hurriedly walking out, just coincidentally meeting Landon face-to-face.
"President Lawson, I was just about to find you."
"How’s the investigation going?" His indifferent eyes showed no emotion, as if he were discussing someone else’s affairs. Yet the man knew that when Landon Lawson shows such an expression, it means he is truly angry.
The man’s face was also quite solemn as he slowly spoke, "The IP address detected through the surveillance equipment you provided happens to be Vera Yates’ home..." His voice gradually weakened.
Actually, by the time he left, he had already confirmed that Evan wasn’t lying; that child is someone perceptive.
Though young, these interactions revealed that whoever dared to underestimate Evan would bear the consequences.
"When have I ever made mistakes in my work? And this is professional." The man chuckled bitterly, knowing that Landon was only deceiving himself.
Actually, Landon knew this; he wouldn’t speak lightly unless the investigation was clear.
Landon handed the computer in his hand to him, "Help me restore the deleted contents from the computer."
"Whose computer is this, so pink?" The man chuckled softly. This request from Landon was an easy task for him.
The man opened the computer and, three minutes later, pushed it back to Landon.
Landon didn’t waste any words, staring at the restored video on the screen which turned out to be secretly recorded footage of Sienna’s home.
The man sat beside him, initially not taking it seriously, thinking it was just a broken computer with important files inside. But the background clearly showed Landon’s ex-wife’s home, and from the angle, it was the surveillance equipment he discovered.
It seems Landon has already found out who installed the surveillance equipment.
Landon’s hand imperceptibly clenched into a fist, internally inventing thousands of reasons for Vera Yates, numerous excuses, but everything told him. This surveillance equipment was installed by Vera Yates.
Why did she do this? Wasn’t she Sienna’s best friend? But this action inevitably made him ponder.
Reflecting on Sienna’s previous mocking and sarcastic comments to Vera Yates, Landon found himself unable to comprehend just what kind of person Vera truly was.
The man beside him didn’t watch the video further; this matter, after all, was someone else’s family business.
Landon didn’t know how he left, muddled and confused, feeling for the first time in many years such sensation.
The Quinn Family home.
Evan sat obediently on the sofa, humming softly to himself and swinging his chubby little feet, seemingly indifferent to adult affairs, playing on his own, but his pricked-up ears betrayed him.
Yet the Quinn Family members unknowingly faced Evan frequently pretending to be innocent while deceiving them.
"Sienna, I didn’t expect you’d actually come back today." Amanda Warren smiled as she sat across from Sienna, with Claire beside her whose face was steely, and Old Mrs. Quinn resting in the bedroom, not yet awake, and Tom Quinn not yet home from the company.
Sienna smiled gently, seeing their expressions clearly. Would they truly wish for her return sincerely? Probably in this entire home, aside from Old Mrs. Quinn, no one wanted her back.
Even Old Mrs. Quinn merely wanted to create an illusion for outsiders of family harmony and joy — nothing genuine, just a pretense.
"Grandma asked me to return. As a granddaughter, how could I not come back?"
"What a filial person. But why haven’t you returned before? Did you forget the way home?" Claire sneered, crossing her legs, her eyes contemptuously scanning Sienna up and down.
Facing Claire’s sarcasm, Amanda merely smiled, sipping her coffee, as though not hearing Claire’s words.
Evan bowed his head, pouting. Before, he didn’t understand why Mommy disliked this family so much.
He had come here only twice, both times facing cold ridicule. They had never welcomed their mother and child here.
Sienna gently stroked Evan’s fluffy little head, her eyes full of tenderness, "I’ve lived here for over twenty years, and I know the way here better than all of you. You’ve only been here for five years, probably."
Five years ago, this villa was solely for their family, while Tom Quinn’s family lived elsewhere.
"Do you know what this behavior is called?" Sienna suddenly looked toward Claire, her lifted lips always seemed mischievous. Evan suddenly felt a bit sorry for Claire; every time Mommy showed this expression, the person opposite never had a good outcome.
Amanda held her coffee cup, her eyebrows slightly furrowed but didn’t say anything.
"What?" Claire asked dumbfoundedly.
"Chickens occupy the nest of magpies!"
Her lips curled upward, the four words resounding powerfully.
Amanda’s hand holding the coffee trembled slightly, her forehead furrowed almost imperceptibly, squinting at Sienna.
This naked sarcasm, without any disguise.
"Sienna, you’re saying I’m occupying the nest? Who are you insulting?" Claire slammed the coffee table, standing up in a rush, her lips trembling as she glared at Sienna.
"Who am I insulting? Isn’t it obvious?" Sienna spread her hands, full of helplessness, her eyes seemingly staring at something trivial.
Claire was gnashing her teeth, raising her hand to slap Sienna, "You dare insult me? What do you even count as?"
Seeing the approaching hand, she deftly sidestepped, avoiding Claire’s slap.
Evan paused, his face grim as he shouted angrily at Claire, "Why are you hitting Mommy?"
Claire was startled by Evan’s yell, looking for the first time at the small child next to him, meeting those cold and emotionless eyes, her body quivered.
Why does he resemble so much?
Claire felt as if she was being stared at by Landon Lawson.
Realizing afterward, this was just a small child, yet being scared by a child not even five years old, her face flushed as she glared at Evan, a battle of wills between the two.
Claire sneered, "Gone for five years, brought back a child, truly shameless." Rolling her eyes, smirking coldly.
Evan puffed his chest, raising his little head, having a mocking smile identical to Sienna’s.
