Chapter 132: Chapter 132
Although Chiara Thorne had mentioned that the French branch was always running smoothly and had never encountered any problems, Axel Yates repeatedly told her that since she left the French branch, the situation there had not been good.
One of these two people must be lying, but who?
What is he hiding that he even needs to conceal it from himself?
Sienna Quinn handed the document in her hands to Sean Carter, who looked perplexed and bewildered: "Why are you giving it to me?"
"You’re going to the meeting!" Sienna Quinn said, her eyes wide with shock.
Sean Carter hesitated. If he goes to the meeting, then what about her?
"The meeting’s about to start, and now the entire company is gossiping about you. If you leave without attending the final meeting, the rumors about you won’t stop." Sean Carter looked at Sienna Quinn with some concern. At this time, where could she go? Shouldn’t she stay here?
Sienna Quinn frowned tightly, but there was something she needed to do now.
"I’m going to find President Yates now!"
"President Yates?" Sean Carter was taken aback. Now no one could find him, could Sienna really find him?
The man’s worry was evident to Sienna Quinn. She gently patted his shoulder, turned around, and left, not letting anyone follow. Check latest chapters at Nov3lFɪre.ɴet
She knew Axel Yates’s address. She drove to his apartment and raised her brows in confusion. Although the Yates Group wasn’t as prominent as the Lawson Group, it was still a reputable corporation.
Even the Quinn Family lived in lavishly decorated villas. Why was Axel Yates living in such a regular apartment?
Although she was puzzled, when Sienna Quinn took the elevator up, she knocked on Axel Yates’s door. There was no sound for quite a while. She leaned her ear against the door, listening to the sounds inside, and her brows furrowed slightly.
Just before coming up, Sienna Quinn had used some methods to obtain surveillance footage. From the footage, she could ascertain that Axel Yates had returned home a few days ago and hadn’t been out since. Sienna was certain he was home now; she just didn’t know what had happened that could make such a gentleman shut himself away for so many days.
"President Yates, it’s Sienna Quinn. I know you’re home; open the door."
Sienna Quinn gently knocked on the door, her tone very soft, but there was still no response from inside.
A sense of foreboding rose in her heart. Did he lose hope?
The speed of her knocking on the door increased, and the sound grew more urgent, "If you don’t open the door, I’ll find people to break it down!"
The sound of the door unlocking echoed, and as Sienna Quinn saw the opened door, Axel Yates appeared disheveled, as if he hadn’t washed for days, looking quite haggard, with stubble covering his chin and hair long enough to cover his eyes.
His once tall frame now seemed fragile and vulnerable.
Axel Yates looked at the woman standing before him, his empty gaze fixed on her: "Why did you come?"
"Of course, I came to find you. You haven’t appeared in so many days; the entire company is about to go crazy looking for you!"
Sienna Quinn was startled by Axel Yates’s appearance ; how could he become so unkempt? Didn’t he know how to take care of himself?
Axel Yates laughed self-mockingly, swaying as he walked back inside, "The entire company? I think the only person genuinely looking for me is you. Those old guys probably wish I was dead right now so the company could fall into their hands."
The man’s voice was full of sarcasm and self-deprecation, a sense of despair that made Sienna Quinn feel unfamiliar. After graduating from her studies in France, she had been working at the Yates Group steadily. Ever since she first saw this man, she was drawn to the gentleness and kindness he exuded.
Sienna followed him inside, surveying the messy room, the tightly drawn curtains allowing no light in, bottles and cans scattered all over the floor. She raised her eyebrows slightly; had Axel Yates really been living all this time?
Watching the man slump on the sofa, his vacant eyes stared straight at the ceiling.
Sienna didn’t say a word and began tidying up the chaotic room. The man didn’t even glance up, stating blandly: "No need to clean! Living is comfortable."
"You should treat life with refinement; otherwise, life won’t become refined!"
Refining life? Axel Yates’s indifferent eyes finally seemed to waver slightly.
Sienna tidied all the way to his computer desk, just happening to see the emails on it. The trash in her hand slipped, all falling to the ground.
"You’ve seen it all!"
The sound of bottles and cans scattering on the ground drew Axel Yates’s attention, and he looked at Sienna Quinn, whose eyes were filled with horror, and laughed sarcastically: "You’ve seen it all, so how can you still talk about refining life? The revenge for my closest ones has yet to be settled, and I don’t even know who the murderer is!"
Axel Yates painfully grasped his head, biting his lip fiercely with his pearly teeth.
Sienna Quinn raised her head, looking at the man with bulging veins on the back of his hands, a surge of tender sympathy stirring within her. She instinctively walked over, grabbing his hands that were clutching his hair.
"I understand how you feel!"
"You understand?" Axel Yates laughed sadly, "You don’t need to comfort me. I’m the one who knows my own feelings best."
Sienna shook her head repeatedly, her gaze intense as she fixed her eyes on him. This resolute look made the man uncomfortable.
"I’ve said before, I understand how you feel because my parents have passed away as well!"
Axel Yates’s pupils froze for a moment, looking at Sienna Quinn’s delicate face, her determined gaze unwavering. She must be lying just to comfort him.
"There’s a mystery about my parents’ death; it’s highly likely they were harmed."
Sienna didn’t follow Axel Yates’s words any further, but instead slowly began: "This time I returned to China, you should already know. Actually, I’m a child of the Quinn Family. Five years ago, there was a family upheaval; at that time, President Quinn along with the lady got drunk at a banquet, drove back themselves, and directly crashed into the guardrails on the side, resulting in both of them dying. Then, Quinn Group was taken over by Tom Quinn. Have you heard about this?"
Axel Yates froze for a moment, dumbly nodding. Almost everyone knew about this incident: Quinn Group’s then-chairman, along with his wife, died in a car accident overnight, leaving behind only a daughter.
His gaze toward Sienna Quinn turned strange; could it be that Sienna Quinn...
"Yes, I am their child." Sienna Quinn said casually, as if this matter had not affected her at all.
"But what good does my pain do? Will it really clear my parents’ grievances? I clearly know who the real killer is but am powerless. Overnight I lost everything; my dad never drank, yet that day he was found to be drunk? And driving under the influence? Everything seemed suspicious, but no one listened when I tried to speak up."
