Chapter 119: Chapter 119
The old man let out a dry laugh as he looked at Vera Yates’ pretty little face.
The woman glanced at the man with his fat head and big ears, the stench of booze occasionally wafting off him, and a sinister smile formed in her heart. She was enduring this only because of Landon Lawson; it was only when he saw her grievances that he would play along with the act as usual.
Earlier in the bathroom, she had already sent Landon Lawson the address, calculating the time. He should arrive in about half an hour.
Half a two-hour later, Evan Quinn curiously stretched his head out, looking around. He saw the car stopped in front of a large hotel. Landon Lawson’s expression was not good, ever since Vera Yates called, he’d been on edge, fearing what might happen to her and how he would explain to her family, and to him. The thought made Landon Lawson’s aura grow even colder.
Sienna Quinn sat beside him, clearly feeling the change in the man’s emotions, a hint of mirth at her lips, but inside she was mocking. From her perspective, Landon Lawson seemed too invested in Vera Yates; was it really just a sibling relationship as he claimed? She didn’t think so.
"What’s wrong with this place? An adult should be accountable for their actions. If they thought it was safe, they wouldn’t have come. If it was dangerous, why be here? Vera Yates isn’t incapable of thinking, is she?"
Sienna’s words left Landon Lawson momentarily speechless. She was right, Vera Yates felt safe enough to come initially, so why the call? With a helpless twitch of his mouth, he thought that if Vera Yates wasn’t in trouble, she wouldn’t have bothered him.
"She isn’t as scheming as you think. How can you be so cold? Even to a friend, you say such things?" Landon Lawson was full of anger, rebuking Sienna’s cold indifference.
Sienna coldly laughed at Landon Lawson’s outburst. So this was the sibling relationship he spoke of? Just as twisted as it was five years ago.
Landon Lawson didn’t notice Sienna’s reaction and pushed the car door open, heading straight out. Vera Yates and he had known each other since childhood; she’d always been a very kind and good girl, not the schemer Sienna suggested.
Evan Quinn sat in the car, watching Landon Lawson’s departing figure, pouting helplessly.
"Why did Daddy just leave us here? Mommy, let’s hurry and follow him." Evan Quinn couldn’t sit still; he didn’t bring Sienna along just to sit in the car and watch.
Sienna pressed her lips together, her pretty face frosty, lips slightly curving upward. Since she followed them here, she might as well take a look; otherwise, wouldn’t today be a wasted trip? Besides, she wanted to see what new tricks this woman could pull. At least before now, Sienna hadn’t seen her cunning.
"Son, Mommy is taking you to see the best actress perform." Saying that, she lifted Evan Quinn out of the car. Follow current novels on noᴠelfire.net
Landon Lawson walked ahead, listening to the footsteps behind without saying anything else. The three took the elevator upstairs.
"Daddy, this place is hard to find."
Evan Quinn’s statement wasn’t without reason, and Landon Lawson nodded; even he found it challenging.
"But in such a hard-to-describe location, the little auntie managed to explain well even when drunk, truly impressive." They say children speak innocently, but Landon Lawson was briefly stunned.
"Silly boy, that little auntie knows a lot more." Sienna chuckled lightly.
Landon Lawson looked at Sienna and Evan as if they were performing a duet, saying to Sienna: "You really are indifferent and emotionless."
"Indifferent and emotionless? And how should I feel about someone who killed another?" She finally understood the situation.
If she were truly emotionless, how did Vera Yates manage to deceive her out of her kidney? Now being called cold and heartless, Sienna wanted to see just how ’emotional’ Landon Lawson could be today.
Showing tenderness to others but watching as they harm his wife and child, was that what Landon Lawson called being emotional?
Thinking of the events from five years ago, a glint of ice flashed in Sienna’s eyes. They would all pay dearly; this was just the beginning, and a life for a life was the principle.
When Landon Lawson opened the door, he was startled by the atmosphere inside. Vera Yates, being closest to the door, turned her head with a smile as he entered, instantly filling her eyes with tears, looking as if she had been gravely wronged.
The moment Landon Lawson opened the box, he was stunned. How could they stay in such a cramped room, with the mixed stench of smoke and alcohol? This scent was something Vera Yates used to avoid at all costs, yet today she willingly placed herself in it, making her seem pitiable.
At the moment he opened the door, everyone’s eyes turned towards him. Seeing Landon Lawson, they collectively paused in surprise, but it was the manager who first reacted: "President Lawson!"
"Stephen!" Vera Yates’ voice was full of grievance, looking tearily at him.
Landon Lawson’s gaze immediately caught the middle-aged man’s hand on Vera Yates’ shoulder, his brow furrowing, eyes cold as ice: "Remove your hand!"
The chilling tone made the man’s hand tremble, and his previous lecherous thoughts vanished instantly. The man paused, dryly laughing: "President Lawson, you’re here too, huh."
He was inwardly cursing his assistant now. Didn’t he say that Vera Yates had no connection with Landon Lawson anymore? Then what was Landon Lawson doing here now?
Landon Lawson stood there, his chilling gaze making people shiver, the originally lively box dropping several degrees in temperature. He looked toward Vera Yates: "Are you coming over here or not?"
Vera Yates obediently nodded, stood up, and hid behind him, refusing to step out again.
Clinging to his coat, her exposed shoulder trembled, and her pretty eyes filled with fear and trepidation.
Seeing Vera Yates made Landon Lawson grow even angrier. Surveying the room, he glanced at the manager, who shrank back, not daring to meet his eyes.
"This is what you arranged?"
"It’s... it’s a dinner with the investors..." The manager stammered. How come Vera Yates didn’t mention Landon Lawson would be here tonight? If she had, he wouldn’t have dared to bring Vera Yates to a place even if given ten guts, and now he’d incurred Landon Lawson’s wrath.
Vera Yates stood behind Landon Lawson, watching his towering, mighty back with a gradually rising smile and a gleam of smugness in her eyes. She knew as long as she called, Landon Lawson would drop everything to come for her.
How could Landon Lawson watch her walk into a trap?
He must like her, if only a little.
The woman’s lips curled slightly, feeling content and secretly delighted.
