Chapter 1957: Chapter 1957
Seeing the man stop, the two quickened their pace to get closer. Now was the best time to kill this drunken fool!
When they were about ten meters from the man, Zheng Minghui’s muscles tensed up, and he couldn’t help but imagine himself locking the man from behind, chopping through his skull with a hand knife, and extracting the Evolution Crystal Core.
But this was just imagination and hadn’t translated into action yet.
The two were still approaching the man, with the distance getting shorter and shorter.

As the man got closer and closer, Zheng Minghui raised his hand, but... fate was not on their side. At the most critical moment, a deep male voice suddenly echoed from the street corner ahead!
"Hurry up!" In a moment, the two quickly retracted their actions, and in the next second, they saw over a hundred armed soldiers running along the street they were on, led by a Level 7 New Human officer!
This made the two tremble involuntarily, lacking even the courage to look at each other.
They could only hear the soldiers passing by, their exoskeleton-covered feet clashing with the ground with a "clang clang" sound.
Fortunately, the soldiers passing by did not question the two, ignoring them entirely. Zheng Minghui and Shen Mingke exchanged glances of relief, but without the courage to look back, they didn’t see that after the soldiers moved away, the Level 7 New Human officer turned back, looking at them with a strange expression.
When the soldiers finally disappeared at the far end of the street, the clothes on their backs were soaked with cold sweat. Zheng Minghui tentatively turned back to take a look, and seeing the soldiers gone, he and Shen Mingke continued to chase after the man who had already walked away.
However, it seemed like fate was deliberately working against them all the way. Every time the opportunity was ripe to make a move, soldiers would suddenly appear and disrupt their plans.
So they followed the man, sometimes close, sometimes distant, until they reached a bustling street where they had to stop because of the crowd.
"What do we do?" By this point, they had stopped, and Zheng Minghui asked Shen Mingke quietly, to which the other shrugged, saying, "Forget about him, let’s look for others."
"Alright," Zheng Minghui nodded helplessly. With so many people around, they had no choice but to seek another target for their robbery.
After deciding, they quickened their pace, walking past the drunken man, looking for any lone low-level New Humans. But after a while of searching, they found no suitable targets, but instead discovered a free supply point.
"Hey, Old Shen, wait a moment."
"Look over there." Zheng Minghui pointed across the street, where Shen Mingke saw a shop still open, full of an array of items, mostly tobacco, alcohol, and food. Just the sight of it made their mouths water involuntarily.
Even more exciting, the shop sign prominently displayed the words: [Free Supply]!
Though it was free supply, strangely, the crowd inching towards the Cloud Gorge Base exit only stared longingly, with no one daring to step forward, as soldiers with laser weapons stood grim-faced on either side, looking fierce and daunting.
The two exchanged uncertain glances, but Shen Mingke hesitated, uncertainly asking, "Is there some sort of requirement?"
Zheng Minghui was almost faint with hunger, caring little about requirements. He had spent over a week in a box to leave Cloud Gorge Base, without tasting a single grain of rice. Spotting such an opportunity, he was going to give it a shot while the inhibitor’s effects still held, no matter the requirements. After all, he had nothing to lose.
"Let’s go, let’s go,"
Pushed by Zheng Minghui, Shen Mingke had no choice but to follow through the crowd to the shop front labeled "Free Supply." Inside sat a young-looking soldier busy on a computer.
Zheng Minghui approached, rubbing his hands, with an expectant smile, cautiously trying to catch the soldier’s attention.
The soldier looked up, frowning at the sight of Zheng Minghui.
"Is everything here... free supply?" Zheng Minghui asked, eagerly anticipating the soldier’s response, to which the soldier nodded quickly: "Yes."
This reply delighted Zheng Minghui: "Really?" His eyes immediately locked onto the largest packed instant roasted chicken on the shelf behind the soldier, pointing at it: "I want that one!"
The soldier blinked at Zheng Minghui but didn’t immediately get up, instead extending a palm as if asking Zheng Minghui for something.
"What do you mean? Yajin?"
"Not Yajin," the soldier shook his head.
"Then what?" Zheng Minghui was puzzled, and the next second, the soldier grew impatient: "Don’t have it? Then get lost. These things are free, true, but they’re not for people like you."
"Then who are they for?"
"For those performing dangerous missions and in specific professions. Show your professional certification and white access card. As long as you meet the requirements, you can have anything here. So, hurry up if you want to leave Cloud Gorge Base. Don’t waste time, because if you’re late, you’ll be trapped here and die with us." As the soldier spoke, he withdrew his hand, refocusing on the computer.
"Alright... alright then." Zheng Minghui’s spirits dampened, he moved back beside Shen Mingke, who bore an expression of "I knew it."
"You didn’t believe it, did you? How could such a good thing involve us?"
"Fine, fine, you were right, hindsight genius." He retorted at Shen Mingke irritably, then Zheng Minghui went to sit in a corner not far away. He looked at the sky, and as he kept watching, anger welled up inside him. At that moment, he felt himself being toyed with by fate. After finally leaving Cloud Gorge Base, he had been driven back by a Level 8 zombie. He regretted the choices he’d made but had no choice. Had they not headed towards Cloud Gorge Base, they would either have been caught by the Level 8 zombie or torn to pieces by countless silver-armored zombies in Shaoyuan City!
Reflecting on their decision to leave Cloud Gorge Base, it felt like fate had continually presented them with multiple choice questions, providing all the answers. Yes, they had always chosen correctly, and the choices had to be right. But... what if the questioner eventually gave them a question where both answers were wrong, whether they checked true or false?
