Chapter 1934: Chapter 1934
[In the coming days, humanity will experience one of the most unique periods in its history. Whether we uphold our human dignity and integrity requires everyone’s full effort. The imminent war will determine the fate of humanity—for our families, our friends, and our descendants...]
[On January 6th, it was confirmed that the Abyssal Evil Buddha controlled a black insect corpse tide numbering over ten million, which entered the E Province area. The Cloud Gorge Base’s Third Army Group, in conjunction with bases and Sanctuary Cities like Xianghong, White Wing, Fengzuyan, and Kunlun, established the first line of defense.]
[On January 7th, the "Sin Mirage Cage" developed by Cloud Gorge Base to target the Zombie King Camutos has achieved initial experimental results, proving completely effective.]
[On January 8th, the next generation of extreme northern Zombie King’s giant monster zombie species radiated outward from the Yangtze River, centered on Baojiang City, throughout China. Survivors’ bases everywhere are urged to take preventive measures seriously.]
[People in safe zones, please carefully observe those you know, especially officials in key positions. If you notice any behavioral anomalies in those around you, report immediately to the relevant departments. Accurate reports will be rewarded with a bonus.]
[Important announcement follows: Qingsong City Mengjiao Base declared fallen. As part of the Do-or-Die Plan, the first-generation Endless Journey deployed to the battlefield performed outstandingly in exterminating multiple Level 8 Radiated Species, only to fall into the hands of the anti-human organization leader, Hatred. After multiple investigations, Hatred has been identified as a Level 9 Rester, and there’s a high chance of collusion with the Four Great Zombie Kings...]
[As of yesterday, January 9th, over twenty survivor bases have been destroyed. Seventeen survivor and Sanctuary Cities have been captured. No current trace of local White-haired Zombie King; stay tuned for updates.]
"Hey, Brother Chen, your hometown is gone, and you’re still this calm?"
In a clean and tidy prison cell, a man leisurely ate a piece of luncheon meat while speaking to another man standing at the end of the corridor by the vent.
The man was Xu Yang, one of the Level 8 New Human Powerhouses in a large Sanctuary City. The man he referred to as Brother Chen was Chen Mingyi, the sole Level 8 New Human at Mengjiao Base.
Xu Yang’s words seemed mocking or something else entirely, but Chen Mingyi showed no reaction. He just stood by the vent, gazing motionlessly at the blue sky and white clouds outside.
This spot was the only place in the entire underground prison where one could see the outside view. Outside, the sky was bright despite it seeming like late afternoon around 4 or 5 PM. In reality, the time was 1 AM, and the light source was not the sky but rather from the distant South.
As Kamutos advanced steadily from the South, drawing closer to Cloud Gorge Base, the brightness emitted from its body made the surrounding night as bright as day!
"What’s wrong with you?" Seeing Chen Mingyi still not responding, Xu Yang took another bite of luncheon meat and called out again. Chen Mingyi sighed and said, "What can I do? I should actually thank the mayor. If she hadn’t confined me here, I would have likely perished when Mengjiao Base fell."
"True, there’s no way you could just wipe out so many Level 8 zombies at once. That Endless Journey is indeed impressive. Damn... Being confined here isn’t so bad... really isn’t." Xu Yang joked, and Chen Mingyi wasn’t angry. After being neighbors in this underground cage for so long, he knew what kind of person Xu Yang was. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵※𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮※𝓷𝓮𝓽
He’s alright, just a bit harsh with words.
In the blink of an eye, the canned luncheon meat in front of Xu Yang had emptied. He bent down, carefully using a spoon to scoop up the remaining bits and put them in his mouth. Then he stood up, glanced at Chen Mingyi, who was still observing the outside world through the vent, and, seeing no response, shook his head in boredom and looked diagonally at another cell.
The door there was ajar. Remembering that its occupant had gone out earlier, Xu Yang chuckled lightly and walked over, pushing open the door. He saw a well-arranged room, complete with basic living essentials. The most eye-catching item was an arcade machine against the wall, making it look nothing like a prisoner’s cell.
"Hehe~" Xu Yang chuckled as he saw the arcade machine, quickly moving towards it. He eagerly turned it on, mumbling to himself, "Wow, that girl even has this thing. Months without smoking or drinking nearly drove me crazy."
Upon turning on the machine, Chen Mingyi turned his head to warn, "You better not touch her stuff; she’s coming back soon."
Xu Yang paid no mind, randomly starting a pixel game on the arcade, saying, "I’m just playing, not messing with her stuff, jeez."
Just after speaking, he glanced at a half-drunk bottle of red wine on the table beside the arcade machine, which made him unconsciously lick his lips.
The group of people confined in this underground cage were likely there voluntarily largely, though some came to save their own lives. But this wasn’t even house arrest per se. For such a large group of Level 8 New Humans, the outside soldiers couldn’t really stop them. If any one of them wanted to leave, they could walk out with impunity. The only concern was the Level 9 New Human in Cloud Gorge Base. No one could gauge her thoughts or attitude. Even those wanting to leave had to consider her presence carefully.
As Level 8 New Humans, they couldn’t get everything in here. The outside soldiers guarding them, while unable to stop them, wouldn’t follow their orders either. To obtain something, Ajin had to be in hand!
The most pathetic ones were those who came without a penny; they’re living on the three daily meals now, having nothing beyond that.
The most expensive items here were cigarettes and alcohol. Even a low-grade cigarette here cost ten Ajin, enough to drive Level 8 New Humans into despair.
Particularly the red wine in front of Xu Yang; his current wealth couldn’t even afford half a sip.
In the period that these Level 8 New Humans were confined, the soldiers guarding outside had made a killing, a real cushy job!
After being here for nearly three months, besides a pack of cigarettes in the first week, Xu Yang hadn’t had a sip of alcohol or smoked since. He’s almost forgotten what they taste like, breeding a greed inside him.
"A sneaky sip, she shouldn’t notice..."
