Chapter 1914: Chapter 1914
In an instant, more than a dozen Level 8 followers fell, even the Level 9 Zombie King, Ryle, couldn’t help but feel a pang of pain. His next generation of zombie radiation breeds weren’t something that could be assimilated as easily as a Silver Armored Corpse. To assimilate a radiation breed, at least 19 out of 20 zombies have to die, and even then, the remaining one might not succeed in being assimilated!
And to evolve to the Level 8 radiation breed, it’s a rarity among millions!
Yet, just like that, more than a dozen followers were wiped out. How could the loss not be significant? It’s like having two thousand bucks before the Apocalypse, only to drop a hundred on the street while walking!
What angered him was that none of these followers knew how to assess the situation. With a Level 9 New Human and a Level 9 Zombie King present, why rush in? Life is precious, after all! Seriously...
However, it wasn’t all for naught. At the very least, he learned that the fellow Zombie King had reached some sort of collaboration with the only Level 9 New Human, Su Sigui.
After a brief moment of heartache, Ryle’s face quickly returned to normal as he looked at the people seated at the conference table in front of him.
The scene was very quiet, everyone frowned tightly, and no one opened their mouths. Except for some heavy breathing, no other sounds were made.
This atmosphere was first broken by Ryle, who wore a Chinese face: "Alright, everyone, now I want to know how much time has passed."
None of the people sitting at the table answered him, or rather, no one wanted to speak. However, they didn’t need to answer Ryle’s question, as a soldier soon came over and announced next to Ryle, "It’s been almost half an hour."
The soldier’s response seemed to be addressing Ryle, but in fact, it served as a reminder to the others present.
"Oh?" Ryle feigned surprise "Really, it’s already been that long?"
Others still remained silent, but Ryle’s sarcastic tone had already made the faces of those present gloomy.
That person had been out for half an hour without any news. What did that indicate? No one understood better than the people here!
Before long, some people at the table began to panic, visibly showing fearful expressions, but quickly they remembered something and looked towards Ryle for help.
"You... what you said before, is it true?" Someone asked Ryle, who replied without any facial change, "Of course, I don’t have a habit of lying."
"But how can you guarantee it? How could the anti-human organization be so kind?"
"Yeah, the anti-human organization has always been evil; how could they suddenly choose to help us resist the zombie tide?"
"They wish they could kill us all!"
In the conference room, people spoke one after another, recounting the evils committed by the anti-human organization, their faces filled with fear towards the organization. It’s unavoidable, given the impression the anti-human organization has left; how could that change in a short time?
Which survivor base attacked by the anti-human organization didn’t become a river of blood, barren of grass?
Their actions were even crazier! Even more brutal! With such an organization, suddenly offering to help a survivor base resist the zombie tide, who wouldn’t harbor doubts? Suspect ulterior motives?
It’s as absurd as a corrupt official like Heshen suddenly turning into a clean one! ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝✦𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖✦𝕟𝕖𝕥
Facing the crowd’s skepticism, Ryle’s expression didn’t change; he just quietly listened, appearing entirely unconcerned. After things quietened down, he asked in a calm tone: "Done talking?"
Following his words, the conference room was completely silent, and everyone’s gaze fell on him. Now, there were no choices left for them, the only Level 8 New Human was still imprisoned in the Imperial Building at Cloud Gorge Base, and sixty kilometers west, the black insect tide kept advancing. Facing the Level 8 zombies within the zombie tide, the Survivor Base of Mengjiao had no power to stop them. As for seeking help from other survivor bases, not only were they powerless, even if other bases were willing to assist, reinforcements couldn’t arrive in time.
Now the anti-human organization was their only option, as the organization included many Level 8 New Human Stronghouses. Helping them to block the zombie tide wasn’t easy, but it was within grasp.
Momentarily, everyone was in a dilemma, afraid to refuse, yet also reluctant to agree too easily. Once they let their guard down against the anti-human organization, if they intended any malice, the entire Mengjiao base would be doomed!
No joke, this was life-or-death!
Seeing no one speak, Ryle stood up, explaining unhurriedly: "I know you have deep misunderstandings about my organization, but please give us a chance to explain. Fundamentally, the mistakes of our past were merely for survival. None of us have the qualification to call ourselves saints, right?"
"I believe you all, like us, will stop at nothing to survive!" Ryle displayed a confident smile, believing he understood human nature thoroughly. In fact, most people indeed fear death; the courage to risk everything isn’t something everyone has at every time.
People still didn’t speak, but in their hearts, they deeply contemplated. When survival is severely threatened, one probably won’t adhere to principles, acting as Ryle said, stopping at nothing to survive!
"It seems everyone understands, and should be able to comprehend us, right? Today’s circumstances are unlike the past; each of us desires survival. Facing external intrusion, none of us can stay aloof, be it your people or my organization, eventually, we have to confront what lies ahead."
"We don’t want that turbulent, wandering life anymore. We wish to take root, to grow, to find a place where we can stand firm, which is why we chose the Mengjiao Base."
Everyone remained silent. Indeed, using "survival" as a reason was truly impeccable!
After a pause, Ryle’s gaze swept around, seemingly wanting to memorize everyone’s expressions, then suddenly changed his tone: "However, as guests, we respect your choice. If you refuse to accept us, we can choose another survivor base. The choice is yours." After speaking, Ryle smiled, patiently waiting. That was a tactic to pressure the people in the conference room!
But before the people present could discuss, a man in a military officer’s uniform slammed his fist on the table hard, leaving a dent in the smooth marble surface, with stone fragments flying, and resolutely shouted: "F*ck! Whatever, it’s death either way, I agree to take in the anti-human organization!"
"What about you guys?"
