Chapter 1905: Chapter 1905
The corpse tide, briefly gathered by the scent of the lure agent, returned to its usual calm and began to wander aimlessly after not finding any prey, as the other sounds in the world were slowly drowned out by the sound of the rain.
The rain poured down harder and harder, and blue smoke continuously rose from the zombie horde, shrouding the small county town. It had formed a thin cloud layer in midair, carrying an indescribably pungent smell, causing many onlookers to furrow their brows. Tang Ye looked around and shook his head, while Hu Ji behind him seemed to be enjoying it.
In truth, the smell produced when zombies decompose, from the perspective of the zombies themselves, was quite pleasant, almost euphoric, despite being hard to describe.
To force a description, it was like being in a horribly stinky bathroom, and just when you could no longer stand the poop smell, the scent of chewing betel nut wafts over from the next stall. Although the smell of betel nut isn’t great, it does cover up the stench somewhat.
About a minute passed before the first zombie to notice something was amiss was the Level 8 Demon Sound zombie thrown out by the Level 8 New Human Powerhouse under Su Sigui. Its gaze was no longer on the people on the observation platform but instead it started shrieking frequently, swinging its zombie claws and frantically slapping at the smoking areas on its body. It seemed panicked and was experiencing an unprecedented sensation — an unfamiliar burning sensation that made it, as a zombie, feel fear!
Like humans, it instinctively resisted the pain!
But it didn’t know what to do next. The pain made it sense an ominous feeling. As the torrential rain poured down, its hard skin layer peeled off rapidly, turning into a mass of smoking inorganic matter that fell to the ground, akin to a dough just lifted from a steamer!
The rain, which went from heavy to violent, enveloped the entire abandoned county town in a dim yellow veil. The zombies inside were visibly melting away, all turning into valueless inorganic matter, and those zombies unlucky enough to be inside or trapped in buildings did not escape this unfortunate fate! The torrential rain not only melted their bodies quickly, but also corroded the buildings, as though molten lava was being poured over foam!
Drip drop drip drop...
Tang Ye watched this scene, the rain pattering on the canopies, with silent shock. This biocide appeared to be modified by Su Sigui, something he had even used on himself, showing unimaginable lethality towards zombies but incapable of causing any damage to structures. Yet this "God rain" not only melted zombies but also corroded buildings to rubble!
If Su Sigui unleashed that global-encompassing black rain like before the apocalypse, Earth would certainly face a massive extinction!
Unless one hid deep underground, survival would be nearly impossible!
This effectively equated to directly resetting civilization!
Fortunately, for now, Su Sigui has neither the time nor the capability to construct siphoning towers worldwide!
Within the county town, zombies that couldn’t feel pain were now howling in agony, echoing skywards, forming a hair-raising symphony. Some other high-level zombies finally noticed something was wrong, starting to struggle within the rain, but it was too late. Even that Level 8 Demon Sound zombie, after only a few steps, had its flesh loosen as its feet were eroded by the rain, sprawling out, and large quantities of mud-like inorganic material oozed out, submerging the already ruined streets!
The tragic scene in the county town attracted countless gazes, those watching from high up in the mountains were curious, and some reckless individuals even approached the rain zone, hesitating slightly, with some reaching out to let rain fall on their fingers!
The moment skin contact was made with the rain, the owner of the finger let out a piercing scream! His finger swelled rapidly, like prawn chips frying in oil, emitting a "sizzling" sound. In mere seconds, his entire hand transformed into a heap of inorganic material!
This scene left the others curious about the God rain stunned, and whether out of fear or not, they all began to turn and flee, terrified that the rain might touch even a bit of their clothes or skin!
More and more thick smoke arose from the zombies and buildings eroding in the downpour, gradually blurring people’s vision, though they remained silent, clearly aware that while the God rain was lethal to zombies, it was equally fatal to the new humans!
Thus, seeing the melted zombies in the distance, they felt both joy and sorrow.
As time ticked by, who knows how long it took, but the torrential rain finally started to wane, the clustered clouds slowly dissipating, as a breeze carrying the pungent smell blew past, and a ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds like a sword, casting light down on the earth.
The torrential rain gradually lessened until it stopped altogether, more clouds dispersed, and when the blue sky reappeared before people’s eyes, only then did they truly understand the saying "through the clouds to see the blue sky".
The sky cleared up, seemingly dispersing the gloom shrouding people’s hearts. Tang Ye seemed to hear a sigh of relief from someone, but below, the abandoned county town had already turned into a "lake" of dough!
Some building remains floated on the surface, sticky and black, occasionally wafting a nauseating smell carried by the wind!
At this point, even if a few zombies survived, being submerged in this pool of "dough", escaping was highly unlikely.
Tang Ye stayed silent, glancing at Su Sigui beside him moments later, trying to gauge her reaction, only to find her solemnly staring at her phone.
"What’s up?" Tang Ye asked, and Su Sigui looked up, furrowing her brow and replied, "Just got word from the South West Union that seven more survivor bases have fallen, and... they’ve all been penned in."
"Just that?" Tang Ye questioned, puzzled, as by now other Zombie Kings had begun full-scale invasions, and Su Sigui should understand that more news of fallen survivor bases or Sanctuary Cities would continue to come.
"No!" Su Sigui looked directly at him, with a serious and stern expression, "This survivor base didn’t fall normally, there was no corpse tide attack, but most of the higher-ups inside directly transformed into radiation mutants and took over!"
