Chapter 318: Chapter 318

The manager, who was usually so proud, was now scared out of his wits. The security guards, though they didn’t know who Kris Cooper was, also knew they had hit someone they shouldn’t have. Who wouldn’t want to keep their job? Immediately, they busily gathered around, one by one, grovelling and apologizing to Kris Cooper.

"Mr. Cooper, we’re sorry!"

In a swift turn of events, Vera Wave let out a sigh of relief. She turned her gaze towards Kris Cooper, examining him to make sure he wasn’t hurt, then finally relaxed.

"Kris, shall we let this go?!"

Kris Cooper nodded. The security guards were just doing their job, and he wasn’t angry about that. What upset him was that one of the guards had almost hurt Vera.

"You!" He raised his hand and pointed at the guard who had shoved Vera. "Apologize to her!"

"Oh, yes... Mr. Cooper." The guard hurried over, bowing to Vera. "Miss, I’m... I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to do this. Please forgive me. I come from out of town, and finding a job isn’t easy..."

"It’s okay, no worries." Vera looked at his still-bleeding nose, quickly ran to the coffee table, and got him a tissue. "Quick, wipe the blood from your nose!"

Kris Cooper snatched the tissue from Vera’s hand and tossed it to the guard, then gestured with a wave of his hand.

The guards and the manager scurried out of Nathan Leafcastle’s room. Kris Cooper then turned his attention back to Nathan.

"Kris!" Afraid he might lose his temper again, Vera immediately ran over and grabbed his arm. "Please don’t misunderstand. Brother Nathan just wanted Dr. Winson Summerton to help treat me. He didn’t mean anything else."

Neither understanding Chinese nor certain of what had just transpired, Dr. Winson Summerton and his assistant remained standing aside as silent spectators.

Her gaze fell on Nathan Leafcastle’s face. Spotting his blood-soaked handkerchief, Vera bit her lip.

"Brother Nathan, we’re sorry. We’re leaving now." Holding onto Kris Cooper’s arm, she turned and started to drag him towards the door. "Let’s go... Kris!"

Kris Cooper didn’t move. Nathan Leafcastle also lowered the handkerchief he was pressing to his nose, his gaze meeting Kris’s.

The two men’s eyes met in the middle of the room, neither looking away.

Kris Cooper was the first to break the silence. "I remember warning you to stay away from her."

"Vera is my friend. You have no right to stop me from seeing her," Nathan’s tone was equally unyielding and stubborn.

"She is mine, and I have every right to control all her affairs!" Read complete versıon only at N0velFire.ɴet

"She isn’t your slave!"

"Of course, she isn’t." Kris Cooper lifted his handsome chin arrogantly. "She is my lover!"

"You’re selfish!!" Nathan roared.

"HUMPH!" Kris Cooper sneered. "Yes, I admit it. I am selfish. So what? Nathan Leafcastle, would you dare claim you don’t have ulterior motives?"

With a frown and an air of righteousness, Nathan replied, "I only want to provide her with a complete self, so she won’t be confused by lacking a past or regret missing certain people."

"She doesn’t need a past." Kris Cooper put his arm around Vera, pulling her closer to his side. "She only needs a bright future, and I am enough for her!"

Nathan raised his voice. "Her future should be her own choice, not one made by you in her stead."

"Fine!" Kris Cooper turned his face to Vera. "Vera, will you choose me, or him?"
