Chapter 313: Chapter 313
The family surrounded Qiao Lian with joy that others could not understand. After experiencing various life-and-death situations and feeling utterly powerless, the child had been born safe and sound.
"It’s a girl, a princess!"
"Yikes, she looks so wrinkly and ugly."
"Let me see. She looks beautiful, just like her mother, so pretty."
Wu You’ai didn’t understand why everyone, including the Doctor and grandmother, thought this obviously ugly child looked good... Oh right, where is Jing Shu? If the child was born safely, Jing Shu deserved the most thanks!
"Grandma, where is Jing Shu?"
The Doctor patted the child’s soles upside down to make her cry a bit before handing her over. Grandma Jing and elder aunt looked joyfully at the child. Only when Wu You’ai asked did they realize that Jing Shu was gone.
Qiao Lian said weakly from a corner, "I just saw someone running out."
"It’s all thanks to Jing Shu that the child was born safely this time. I always say, my grandson is resourceful! As for Jing Shu, perhaps she went to the restroom," Grandma Jing suggested.
"I’ll go look for her," said Wu You’ai as she ran out to find Jing Shu, while elder aunt began telling the Doctor about what had just happened.
"I saw her massaging like that, talking to Qiao Lian, telling her to push hard. My niece is from the Wu City Pharmacist Association; she knows a lot, and she is the pride of our whole family."
Jing Shu clutched her head, which felt like it was about to explode. A continuous thunderous noise filled her head, like two massive helicopters roaring beside her ears, making it feel as if her eardrums were about to burst.
While subtly guiding the baby in the womb and Qiao Lian’s breathing, Jing Shu had felt her head thundering. However, she endured it until the child was born, only then running outside as she could bear it no longer.
Jing Shu gasped for air violently, hitting her head hard, but it was of no use. In this dark world, Jing Shu saw dilapidated streets and makeshift shelters, feeling as if the whole world was shaking!
It must be because I overused the Magic Cube Space’s abilities, causing a backlash, Jing Shu reassured herself. Her life was important, so she drank a whole drop of Spiritual Spring, but this time, the usually miraculous Spiritual Spring was of no use at all. Dıscover more novels at novel•fire.net
Jing Shu began to panic. She hadn’t expected that overusing her abilities would be so painful. She had only added one more target to her Illusion Technique. While she could control many living beings, she never expected that one adult and one child would exceed her limits. Is it because humans are higher organisms, or is there some rule I don’t know about?
I once dreamt of controlling crowds with my Illusion Technique when I was in the United States. It seems now that doing so would have killed me instantly from backlash.
It was like how all animals could enter the space, but living humans couldn’t.
The cold rain hit Jing Shu’s face. The thunderous noise in her ears made her very irritable, leaving her constantly on the verge of breaking down. Then, a pair of hands suddenly tapped her shoulders. Jing Shu turned around to see the worried face of Wu You’ai.
"Jing Shu, Jing Shu, Jing Shu...."
Jing Shu could clearly see Wu You’ai’s face and her anxious movements as she spoke, but what reached Jing Shu’s ears was only an endless echo and booming noise.
Jing Shu vigorously shook her head, poked her fingers into her ears, and pulled them out again. She tried to read Wu You’ai’s lips, guessing she was probably asking what was wrong.
"I’m feeling a bit unwell. I’ll go back to the RV to sleep for a while."
Wu You’ai was saying something, but Jing Shu couldn’t understand and didn’t want to bother. Her skin was slowly showing veins, a result of extreme self-restraint. Jing Shu didn’t know how much longer she could hold on without breaking down. So this is what it feels like to constantly hear high-frequency noise.
Jing Shu staggered back, assisted by Wu You’ai. Thankfully, it wasn’t too far. After a ten-minute walk, they were back at the RV. Jing Shu waved her hand, signaling Wu You’ai to leave. Wu You’ai had probably said a lot along the way, but realizing Jing Shu was ignoring her, she finally pointed at the phone and then at herself, indicating that Jing Shu should call if there was any issue.
Jing Shu felt somewhat self-mocking but still nodded. Before Wu You’ai left the RV, Jing Shu grabbed her. "Just tell Grandma and the others that I have a cold, and I’ll be fine after sleeping for a couple of days. I have medicine here."
Wu You’ai nodded and stepped out of the RV.
Finally alone in the spacious RV, Jing Shu stripped off her raincoat and all her clothes. She then lay in the bathtub, activating the first and second form of the Magic Cube to check the space for any abnormalities. Jing Shu was slightly relieved to find none. The Magic Cube Space was still full of supplies. She truly feared the day the Magic Cube Space might disappear, so she dared not keep all her supplies in the space.
After the third drop of Spiritual Spring, Jing Shu’s stomach began growling with hunger, but the ringing in her ears still hadn’t improved. Jing Shu started devouring the food in the space.
The Spiritual Spring is effective for all diseases, so being hungry now meant it was ineffective. If this is indeed due to overuse of my abilities, then I can only wait for it to recover naturally.
After bathing, Jing Shu lay on her bed, restless. Piercing booming sounds constantly bombarded her eardrums. She felt she was going insane and needed to divert her attention, so she decided to practice the Magic Cube.
Jing Shu took out the Magic Cube and began practicing. Hours passed unknowingly. Suddenly, Jing Shu had a startling realization. This is... this is... I’m not forgetting when I practice the Magic Cube anymore! For months, she had been mysteriously forgetting to practice or getting distracted during it, even when she wrote reminders on her hand. But now, those symptoms were gone; she had regained her former state! Even under the immense stress of the booming noise, she was able to focus better, and a few hours of practice were enough to improve her skills somewhat.
At that moment, Jing Shu surprisingly found that the ringing in her ears had also significantly decreased. She checked her phone and saw it was already past six in the evening.
Jing Shu had a thought, Although the ringing in my ears has lessened, my focus is dwindling. Perhaps... this is the real way to advance to this level of the Magic Cube Space. She wrote down her theory and set an alarm.
That evening, Grandma Jing brought her old hen soup and a lavish dinner she had made. Knowing Jing Shu had a cold, she also stewed red date ginger soup. Her elder aunt also made Jing Shu’s favorite spicy stir-fried pork intestines and pig trotter soup. After a hearty meal, Jing Shu felt she was forgetting something, until her phone alarm sounded.
Indeed, I forgot again. It seems I still need to activate a self-torture mode to advance the Magic Cube faster. Could it be that the Magic Cube is trying to train my Illusion Technique abilities this way?
This time, Jing Shu didn’t dare be careless. She maintained her suggestion on both the baby and the adult for tens of seconds. Sure enough, after a short while, Jing Shu’s head began to ache severely. She hurried back to the RV, took out the Magic Cube, and began her practice.
Jing Shu grew increasingly curious about what the Magic Cube’s new ability would be after she advanced.
